Work Text:
Her fingers have always been weird.
It's something nobody ever noticed, not that it was an obvious thing to see. Pale skin like plastic wrap around her joints and bones, tight and barely stretching when she wanted to move.
She'd made the discovery back on the first job with Vi - not the one where they blew up the apartment, but the one where they visited an underground bunker to raid some scrap materials for Benzo.
She'd reached out for the big brass gear but somewhere along the way, her hand had stopped working. They'd had to leave without anything, all because of her incompetent fingers.
Now, though, it was like they were loosening up for the first time in her life, and she had a suspicion as to why - it had something to do with Ekko's hands holding hers. Something to do with warmth.
"-so I told them that they're not supposed to use the acrylic, but the spray paint wasn't a very good choice either, and they didn't like that. Evidently." He finished, looking down at his spray paint-splattered clothes.
Jinx giggled. "What did I tell ya about ordering those seven-year-olds around? They never listen." She moved to sit next to him, dragging him down onto a chair.
Ekko looked at her. "Yeah, they really never do." He kept looking, as though he wasn't quite done yet.
"Anything on my face?" She asked, a little uncertain after a few seconds had passed.
"Yeah. Me." Ekko leaned in closer, and waited for an imperceptible nod before the kiss.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Ekko, I've got a question for ya." She started.
It was late at night, and she could feel the pressure of Ekko's body on her braids, and the weight of his hand wrapped around her.
He raised an inquisitive eyebrow.
"Why did ya leave? The other timeline, I mean. Must've been perfect there, huh?" She asked, deferring to the ceiling towards the end of her sentence.
Ekko joined her, shifting to look at the same crack near the air vent.
"Didn't feel right." He answered simply, but there was no dismissive tone. Jinx prodded further.
"How was she- the other me? Did ya like her?" Jinx asked, settling even closer to him, her head touching his clavicle.
"She was nice. A lot like how I imagined you'd turn out." Ekko started. His hand found hers. "But she wasn't you. I felt it in the way she got mad at me, you know. She just threw some stuff at me. The girl I love would throw me off a building."
Jinx laughed, and the lights went out.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Uh, I'm not really sure, toots. Give me a sec, will ya?" Jinx said, eyeing the options in front of her warily. Each one was an abomination of pink and blue tulle, and some sort of sick, tight little corset.
Goddamn Kiramman, making her attend the pre-wedding. But then again, she was walking Vi down the aisle, as fucked up as that was, so she supposed she'd have to be there.
The seating at the boutique Kiramman had recommended to her was plushy beyond comfort. She damn near sank into the couch, and she was sure someone would have to start a search party to find her if she sat any longer.
She turned her head towards the second changing room, hearing the latch open.
Ekko stepped out, wearing a suit, and looking delectable.
Jinx got up as quick as she could (goddamn couch), and sauntered over to him.
"Oh, Mr. Boy Saviour, looking rather dapper, aren't we?" She teased, her hands reaching to wrap around his collar. The fabric felt gorgeous under her fingers - a deep green velvet manipulated into the form of a suit, hints of his signature neon green splattered on it. "Maybe we should buy it and just 'stay home', if ya know what I mean..?" Jinx wiggled her eyebrows.
Ekko laughed despite his nervousness, flipping them around to look in the mirror.
"Ya know, I could just dye my hair green and be your beard. Better than the options they've got for me." Jinx whispered in his ears, eyeing the saleswoman.
"Eugh. They look disgusting." He whispered right back, "It's like one of those Piltie cakes with all those layers."
Jinx let out an uproarious laugh. The saleswoman gave her a look.
"Alright, lovey, you go ahead and get your little suit. Sevika's got something for me." Jinx said, and left the boutique, casting one last wary glance at the mannequins.
Ekko looked at her, looked back at the mannequins, and gave her a thumbs up.
"I'll buy the suit and an extra roll of the velve-"
She left the shop, taking the hoverboard Ekko made for her as her ride home.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Evidently, Sevika had nothing for her, and it was the morning of the pre-wedding, and Jinx had damn near nothing to wear.
Well, nothing except for the pretty white dress and leather jacket on her bed, and while that was an amazing combination, she was pretty sure white wasn't a good thing to wear at someone else's wedding.
"I'm going to bomb myself, soon enough." She muttered to herself, turning back to her lacklustre cupboard which she shared with Ekko, "And he isn't going to have that time turner to stop me."
There was nothing in the wooden wardrobe, save for some night clothes, a few extra clown pants and a nice little personalized jacket Ekko made for her. She grabbed the latter, taking her blue hoverboard along with her, and jumped out the window, taking the scenic route to the lanes.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Jinx? I've got something to show you."
It was an hour before they had to leave, and Jinx had resigned to splattering some blue paint on the white dress and wearing it to the pre-wedding. Wasn't the best option, but it was better than nothing, huh?
"Comin', toots. Better not be another customised-" She said, turning around.
It was a mannequin, and on it was the most gorgeous dress she'd ever seen. It was made from the same velvet as Ekko's suit, no tulle in sight, and was some sort of mid-length gown - poofy until her mid-thighs, it would seem. The body was a casually fitted velvet bodice, made about three hundred times fancier with the golden pocket watches and chains dangling from it, and Jinx was in love with Ekko.
She jumped up, cornering him in a quarter of a second, and pulling him down for a joyous kiss.
He smiled at her, eyes closed and laughing and she hugged him tight.
"I had a sense you'd like it."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She was gently slammed against the table, and she threw her head back as a whimper escaped her and she sat on the desk. Ekko was feeling her up under the dress, and she was half convinced that he'd made the bodice casually fitted just because it would make her more 'accessible'.
"Look so pretty tonight, Jinx," He started, stopping as he raised his hands to cup her face, "You look all mine." He said, resting his forehead against hers.
"Well, I am, lovey. Of course I'll look the part." She huffed.
"Says the woman who was about to splatter a white dress with blue paint and wear it to a Kiramman's pre-wedding." he laughed lightly.
"It's not just Kiramman's - it's my sister's too." She reminded gently as his hands returned to their original spot, "Lyn-Lyn isn't an asshole, she's just so- ah!" She couldn't finish her sentence, as Ekko had started nibbling on the conjoin of her neck and shoulder.
He looked up innocently, "You were saying something, love? Might wanna finish your sentence, smart girl."
"Fuck you, Ekko!" She almost whined.
"Hmm, maybe later. Didn't take you for much of an exhibitionist, Jinxy?" He replied, returning to her neck.
Jinx laughed, about to retort, when the door swung open, hitting the wall behind it. Two men stumbled into the room, almost hitting multiple shelves behind them.
Ekko and Jinx watched with wide eyes as they continued to make out, unaware of anybody else's presence. That was, until Jinx accidentally moved.
Both of the men looked up, and Ekko realised with horror that these were his patrons. His lab supervisors. Jayce Talis and Viktor.
Ekko was ready to find the nearest bucket and throw up.
The two men repulsed each other as though they were magnets, Jayce almost throwing himself across the room. Viktor hurriedly picked up a book on the shelf next to him, pretending to read it, and Jayce turned on his heel and started arranging the several vases before him.
"...Mr. Talis?" Ekko spoke, his voice almost coming out in stammers.
"Yes, Ekko?" Both of them answered at the same time, and Ekko could almost feel his eyes widen beyond what was considered human. He reached the next most logical conclusion, finding Jinx's hand in his.
"...Are you married?" He spoke a bit louder.
"It appears you are correct once more! Smart man that you are, Ekko, I trust that you shall be smart," Ekko saw Viktor wield his cane and look at him with a smile so deadly, "And keep whatever you have seen here...a secret? You too, Miss Jinx."
"Yes, Professor," Ekko answered, nudging Jinx next to him.
"Yes, fortune cookie!" She yelped out, immediately covering her mouth.
An uncomfortable silence took over the room, as they continued to stare at each other.
It was disrupted moments after when Vi and Caitlyn burst into the room, also entangled in each other. A shelf did, actually, fall down from their force, but with their reactions it appeared to be a normal occurrence.
That was, until Caitlyn noticed Viktor looking at her from the shadows.
She visibly paled.
"What's wrong, cupcake?" Vi asked, still nibbling on Caitlyn's throat, "Not feeling..." She looked up too, and froze.
"...Ah, Caitlyn! There you are, I've been looking for you everywhere!" Vi immediately proclaimed, embracing Caitlyn even harder.
"I'm sorry darling, I don't suppose they're that stupid." Caitlyn giggled, "And it is our pre-wedding."
"Eugh." Jinx grimaced.
"Gross," Ekko said.
"Oh shut up, we know what you were doing in here!" Jayce's voice came from the polar opposite side of the room.
Caitlyn turned to Jinx and Ekko, "And what exactly was it that you were doing in my family's storage room?" She turned around, glaring at Jayce, "You too."
"Testing the hardwood, of course. And Ekko here saw that some of the shrimp cocktail had gotten on my neck, and he was rather kindly helping me remove it, and uh fortune cookie and golden boy over there were helping clean the room out!"
Vi turned to Ekko.
"You never told me you were dating my sister, little man?" She said with a glare.
Ekko gulped.
