Work Text:

This is it. This is a day they’ve been eagerly waiting for.

The whole week’s worth of texting and planning has all gone into this.

”Make sure you get my good side!” Cassidy yelled.

”You have only *one* good side? Can’t relate.” Kai replied, Damon elbowing his shoulder.

Kai set his phone on a ring light as the commotion in the courtyard was to be settling soon. The night “sky” was doing pretty good at keeping some of the darkness.

”Ahh!! Only one minute left!!” Diana warned.

”Cool down, won’t you? It’s enough time,” Eva pushed her glasses back into place as she rolled her eyes.

Everyone got to taking their places, the girls on one side and the guys on the other.

Cassidy waved her hat in the air with a big smile, Wenona keeping her hands in her pockets next to her.

Toshiko was picked up by Ingrid, seated on one of the latter’s shoulders.

Eva folded her arms, letting one of her hands push her glasses into place. Standing next to her was Diana, who quickly applied lip gloss to her lips while looking in a compact mirror.

Eloise stood by Ingrid, not wanting to be a big presence in the photo.

Grace had a grin on her face as she leaned back against Wolfgang, who stood politely with his arms behind him.

Kai stuck his tongue out and winked for the camera, holding a peace sign behind Damon’s head as the latter was unamused by his antics.

”H-Hey..! N-Not so tight..!” Mark mentioned to Jett, who had his arm around the former in an enthusiastic manner.

”..Thirty seconds left!” Ulysses spoke as he wiped his glasses clean before putting them back on, scribbling in his notebook as Jean flexed his arms next to him for the photo.

”Is there a timer set on your phone?” Desmond inquired to Kai as he crossed his arms, standing next to Damon. “No, but I have this remote here. Which means *I* control the photo-taking. Obvi.”

”Ten! Nine! Eight!” Toshiko started counting down, and everyone started joining in...

”Seven! Six! Five!”

”Four! Three!”

”TWO..! ONE..!!”

”HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!”

They all forced themselves not to budge from their poses as the pops and cracks of fireworks boomed behind them in the fake sky, the colored lights flashing behind them as Kai pressed the button and the photo was snapped.

Kai then turned around and pointed upwards, ”Look, guys, up there!!”

They all turned around, mesmerized by the firework show they were all given in the fake night sky. Despite it not being a real deal, it was still mesmerizing.

”Woohoo! Another year at Eden’s Garden Academy!” Diana squealed.

”This is a pretty elaborate show, honestly..” Damon added, raising a brow.

”Don’t be such a buzzkill, man!” Jett scolded. ”You can’t deny it’s pretty, now can ya?” Ingrid asked.

”I don’t expect much, honestly. There’s more elaborate, expensive shows I’ve seen.” Wenona chimed in, her hands on her hips as she kept staring up.

Kai retrieved his phone to be able to film the firework show.

”Oi, d-did anyone see that?! That one up there, it was shaped like a rabbit..!” Grace incredulously yelled.

”Aye, there’s one like a dragon over there!” Jean pointed up.

”Golly, and a lion!”

”And a sheep..?”

”A swan..?!”

”Look, those flamingos made a heart!!”

”Hah, cool, there’s a shark.”

”A butterfly!! Oh, Damon, look, a snake!”
"I can see that.."

”A chameleon, like my bracelet! Eek~!”

”Even a raven..?”

”A wolf right there..!”
”No, that’s supposed to be a coyote- oh, an alligator..”

”A bear..? Shaped by fireworks? This just got more interesting..”

”SPIDER!! Called it, there’s a spider!!”

”Bear, spider, owl.. Wait, an owl..?”

And so concluded another year spent in Eden’s Garden Academy. The colorful personalities mingled and got along like the colors in the night sky.

..Like they were meant to.
