Work Text:
Brooks sighed, rubbing their eyes as they walked through the front door, rushing to step foot into the tranquility that was their bedroom. Brooks closed the door quickly and took a quick inspection (Art was in the living room at the moment, thank God) before shakily laying down. A sob escaped from their throat, Brooks covered their mouth before letting out another, turning to face the wall and covering themself with Arts blanket.
Covering their head with the blanket, Brooks curled up, sobbing uncontrollably. “..Brooks?” Art's hesitant voice rang through the room, hitting Brooks like a train.
“Please.. Do.. don’t turn on the lights.” Brooks muttered out, trying to calm their trembling form. Deep breath in, deep breath out. Art knew what this meant.
Don’t look at me.
He wasted no time before rushing over to Brooks’ side, holding them gently. Hesitant at first, Brooks lay there, before turning around to face him, clinging to him like a lifeline as their body shook with exhaustion. “Hey.. Shh…” Art shushed Brooks, rubbing their back in soothing circles, much like how they did to him. “It’s okay. You’re safe. You’re okay, Brooks.”
“I’m sorry.” was all they could choke out, grabbing onto the back of Art’s shirt.
“It’s okay, I’ve got you.” Art muttered, continuing with the soothing motion, pressing a quick kiss to their forehead. “I’ve got you, you’re safe.”
