Kai didn’t understand what he did to deserve to be away from his beloved for longer than he had ever since marriage. Although it had only been a week, he had missed Alice since he walked out the door of their shared apartment 7 days ago. And now that he was finally back, Kai planned to make up for every moment he lost with love.
Opening the door, Kai dragged his luggage in with him and halted when he didn’t see Alice in the living room where he normally was. After walking over to the living room just to make sure, he was alarmed by the smell of… burning? Alice didn’t normally cook since it was literally Kai’s job to make food, but he had forgotten that Alice would have to feed himself while Kai was gone. He should’ve just resorted to making simple dishes, so why was something burning?
“Alice?” Kai called out as he rushed over to the kitchen. On his way, he could also smell a bit of.. Tiramisu? That made no sense, there was no way to burn Tiramisu unless you were a complete idiot, and that his Alice was not.
Walking into that kitchen, Kai saw Alice hunched over the stove and wearing the apron that Kai always wears. Alice turned around, and his eyes widened seeing Kai. “Kai Satou…!!” Alice stepped up to the homemaker and hugged him. “What’s burning?” Kai said softly, hugging his love back. “I-I’m sorry, I tried making Tiramisu for you since I knew you would be back soon, and while I was making that I also tried making Eggs Benedict even though it’s mostly a breakfast thing, I just wanted to try. I got too caught up on the Tiramisu and forgot about the poached egg, so I tried making an over easy one instead, and i-” Alice is cut off by the soft lips of the other man before pulling away.
“I’m just happy to be with you again. You didn’t have to do all this.” Kai said, looking into the taller man’s eyes. He looked back into the kitchen and saw a poorly assembled Tiramisu and burnt eggs. “I can help you make them.” Kai looked back at Alice, waiting for a reply to his offer. “Okay, but you won’t help with anything, just explain to me how to make these… overly complicated dishes. Especially the Tiramisu. What in the world are lady fingers Kai Satou?” Alice asked, walking back over to where the burnt eggs were. Kai let out a small chuckle at Alice’s little regard for the world of baking. “If you don’t know what they are, I’m assuming you haven’t bought any. Let’s go to the store, okay?” Alice hummed in agreement. Walking out the door, hand in hand, Kai swore it felt like he had never even left.
