Chapter Text
“I object!” Wei Ying’s clear voice rang out over the hall as the doors he just burst through hit the wall dramatically. He looked out to where he expected Lan Zhan to be, only, he wasn’t there. None of the Lan’s family or friends were there either.
In fact, Wei Ying didn’t recognize anyone in the hall. There was a deafening silence hanging in the room, as everyone looked from Wei Ying, then back over to the coffin that was now rattling slightly.
The lid slowly slid off before a man in a suit, that looked like he was in his early 20s, sat up and looked out over the crowd in a mix of wonder and horror. A young woman took a tentative step forward, giving the appearance of calm but her trembling voice gave her away. “A-Ning? You’re alive? All your wounds are…?”
“Jiejie,” the man in the coffin said, “I think… I feel fine?”
Everyone then turned to look over at the stranger that had crashed the small funeral. No one said anything or moved for a very long time. It wasn’t until Wei Ying heard his friend, Nie Huaisang, calling for him that he was brought back to reality.
Did he just… object to someone being dead and then bring him back to life?
“Wei Ying! I’m sorry, I lied, your Lan Zhan isn’t getting married. We need to get back before my brother finds out we crashed a random wedding-” Nie Huaisang ran up to Wei Ying’s side, trying to catch his breath, before looking into the room that he had originally said a wedding was taking place in.
“Oh, oh no, no no no, I didn’t know!” He grabbed Wei Ying’s wrist dragged him away in a run. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know! I thought it was a wedding, I swear!”
Wei Ying followed behind his friend, letting the other drag him away. It wasn’t until they were back in front of the building that the two boys were waiting for the elder Nie brother to emerge from that they stopped running.
Wei Ying stared down at his hands when they stopped, looked back up at his friend, “I think I just resurrected someone.”
Nie Huaisang looked at the other in panic, “You did WHAT!” They looked at each other with equal amounts of terror on their faces. They hadn’t even noticed when the doors behind them opened.
“Careful, your faces can get stuck like that.” Nie Mingjue said, now standing behind the two.
“Ah!”
“AH!”
They both screamed out before turning back to the elder Nie. “What’s got you two so jumpy? Come on, Xichen and the others are waiting for us.” He purposely ignored the younger two boys’ weird behavior, just walking on ahead to the car. They were already behind schedule, and he didn’t have time to deal with any of their crap today.
Nie Huaisang quickly trailed after his brother, leaving Wei Ying no choice but to follow along as well.
They all belted themselves into Nie Mingjue’s car, before it sped away towards whatever event the Lan’s were hosting.
The Nie’s, Lan’s, Jin’s and Jiang’s, Wei Ying’s guardians, were all family friends and often had events and parties hosted between them all. This current one was hosted by the Lan’s, though Wei Ying wasn’t too sure what it was about. He’s pretty sure Jiang Cheng had told him the day before, but at the time he was too busy trying to get Lan Zhan’s attention to listen to his brother.
When stopping for a quick errand for Nie Mingjue, Nie Huaisang had joked, saying that the event was Lan Zhan’s wedding and then pointed to the small church near by.
Without even a moment’s thought, Wei Ying was off running, sick with the thought of the Lan spending the rest of his life with some random girl. He wouldn’t have the time to be bugged by Wei Ying anymore, it was unacceptable! He swears that’s all it was, it had nothing to do with the fact that he’s had a crush on the Lan since their school days, not at all.
But now, after the wedding turned out to not only NOT be Lan Zhan’s but it also wasn’t a wedding at all!
He rose someone from the dead.
He thinks he did at least.
Maybe the guy wasn’t dead-dead, and they just had a big misunderstanding. Maybe Wei Ying’s loud voice woke him up from some weird coma!
But it was a closed coffin, he’s pretty sure that only happens when the body is too mangled to be out on display. That’s how it worked right?? The only funeral he had ever been to had been for his parents, but he was too young to remember it, just that it had happened and he was indeed in attendance for it.
Wei Ying wanted to scream out but just settled for wringing his hands out while sitting in the back seat of the car. This wasn’t something that happened. In stories and movies, sure, but not in real life!
It didn’t take long before they arrived at the hall they were supposed to be at. Being the last to arrive, the three were quickly ushered in, joining the rest of their families. Wei Ying easily spotted Lan Zhan in the crowd and briskly made his way over to the other. With out a word, Wei Ying stood in front of the other, affectively stopping any conversation he might have been having.
“Wei Ying-” Lan Zhan was cut off as the other just leaned forward to rest his forehead against his chest. Eyes closed, breathing in that comforting sandalwood scent. Lan Zhan hesitated a moment before his slowly lifted his arms to hold the other.
After another moment, Wei Ying looked up at the Lan, who had a small frown on this face, “Lan Zhan, I think I just re-alived someone.”
