Work Text:

San opened the door to the house he shared with his mate of three years to complete silence. Furrowing his eyebrow, he slightly grew concerned. Their home was usually not so quiet around the time he got off work. Byeol, their charming little cat they lovingly loved to call their “first daughter,” was usually there to greet him. She’d meow loudly as if to say hello, how was work, but even she was missing.

His adoring wife, Wooyoung, would usually be in the kitchen, music blaring from their speakers as he waltzed around, stirring their dinner. He makes all of San’s favorites, a small little thank you to his husband for working hard to provide for them. He stayed home a lot more these days, opting to take care of his health instead of working.

‘How weird…’ San thought to himself as he left his shoes on the rack near their entrance. He tugged himself through his home while looking for any sign of life. Strange, it felt, to get home to such a quiet place.

He made his way to the kitchen, assuming that his mate probably had a late start to dinner and was just now getting started. But still, the kitchen remained spotless like the omega usually left it with no sign of him in there.

San started to grow worried- where could Wooyoung possibly be? He continued to walk through his home until he made it to his bedroom door. There, the alpha was greeted by a sight that made him fall in love all over again.

In the center of their bed were Wooyoung and Byeol, curled up together in the middle of a near-evening nap. Their sweet kitty had her snout and a paw pressed almost firmly against the omega’s stomach as if in a protective position. Fiercely guarding the new life that was developing in Wooyoung’s womb.

The mated couple was expecting their first child, and they couldn’t be more over the moon if they tried. With both wolves coming from very loving families, they could not wait to start their own.

Unfortunately it didn’t come easily.

They found themselves a year into being mated after three years of courting, and yet no matter how hard they tried, a baby just wouldn’t take. But they did not let that discourage them. Being young and in love, they were determined to keep trying.

Until one day and two faithful little red lines, the couple was greeted by the best news of their lives. They were ecstatic and could not wait to meet their little pup. Just as they were getting ready to share the news with their friends and loved ones, Wooyoung lost the baby.

The pair were heartbroken by the miscarriage, and Wooyoung couldn’t help but to blame himself for the loss. It took a while for Wooyoung to recover and want to try for another baby, too afraid that another miscarriage could happen. San remained patient throughout the process and tried his hardest to reassure the omega.

After a few tries, Luna soon blessed the couple again once the omega was able to heal. And now they were awaiting their precious little rainbow baby.

With his current pregnancy, Wooyoung and their pup were now safely in their second trimester. Their doctor reassured them with every visit that Wooyoung’s pregnancy was a healthy one and that they could expect for their child to arrive in perfect condition.

But that didn’t stop Wooyoung from worrying.

After careful consideration and with overwhelming support from his workplace, the omega decided that it would be best for him and his baby for him to take a leave from work.

Work for Wooyoung was more of a passion project than a necessity to make ends meet. San made more than enough to support the both of them and the new addition to their family, so Wooyoung felt comfortable with leaving the dance studio he taught at. He will still occasionally stop by to socialize with his old co-workers and bring them treats, as he’s always been a social butterfly.

San carefully stepped into their shared room, trying his best not to awaken his sleeping babies. He quietly pulled his phone out to snap a picture of Wooyoung and Byeol, immediately setting the picture as his lock screen. He also quickly placed an order for their dinner, opting for something from one of Wooyoung’s favorite restaurants.

Setting his phone down, San got even closer to the bed, stopping once he was at the edge. Before he could get close to Wooyoung, Byeol stirred in her sleep once she felt the alpha’s presence near them. Quickly, she shot up to turn towards San, ears flat and back arched. Back off. She’d say if she could speak, but she could only hiss at him.

San cooed at her little display of protection. “Ah Byeol-ya. You’re really protective of your baby sister aren’t you?” He said as he leaned his hand towards the cat so she could catch his scent. Byeol seemed to have understood the memo as she leaned in and relaxed her posture. He lightly petted her fur to reassure her before moving to get closer to his mate.

He made quick work to press a kiss to the omega’s forehead, moving down to the mole under Wooyoung’s eye and finally pressing a kiss to his baby bump. Wooyoung made no attempt to wake up in the moment, only stirring slightly before settling back to sleep. The alpha smiled to himself. He let his mate continue to get rest while he decided to wash up for the evening.

San just made it out of the shower and changed when their door rang, so he retrieved their dinner before waking the omega up. Soon, he was back to their room, crawling into bed with his wife. He pressed kisses all over Wooyoung’s face- over the years he’s come to learn what an effective method it can be to get a person to wake up.

Soon Wooyoung stirred awake, surprised to find the alpha hovering over him. “Mmm, what time is it?” He mumbled with sleep still tinting his voice.

San adored the way Wooyoung looked like this. There was something so special about how soft the omega was when he’s freshly awoken, an almost stark contrast from his usual loud and bold demeanor. His long dark hair was splayed out around him, framing his face beautifully.

San brought a hand to rest against Wooyoung’s face, his thumb brushing against the other’s cheekbone softly. “It’s a little past seven love.”

Wooyoung’s eyes widened, completely taken aback. “Seven?!”

“Yeah, you had quite the nap didn’t you?” San said with a chuckle. He brought a hand up to brush over the stray strands of hair that were becoming a bit messy on the omega, smoothing it out for him slightly. Wooyoung melted with the alpha’s touch, a soft pur bubbled in his throat.

“Ahh, I just really got the need to nest and I guess me and Byeol lost track of time.” Wooyoung said sheepishly, recalling what happened earlier.

Let’s lay down for a little while we wait for daddy to get home Byeolie.” Wooyoung said as he scooped up the kitten in his arms. Truth be told, Byeol was always more of “San’s cat” than she ever was his. In the first year of the couple getting her, Byeol much preferred being with the alpha, even going as far as to swat Wooyoung away if he ever got too close. But as his pregnancy progressed, Byeol and her attitude towards the omega did a complete 180. San loved to see how their cat started warming up to the omega, overjoyed to see the two loves of his life getting along so well.

So the two spent a lot more of the omega’s free time cuddling in the omega’s nest. Wooyoung appreciated the extra warmth Byeol brought to his nest and he loved to see her pressed up against his bump. He liked to believe that she knew a little baby was in there and she needed to protect them.

Wrapped in warm blankets and some of San’s clothes, Wooyoung and Byeol’s little cuddle session quickly turned into a nap, the two quickly drifted into dreamland

“Dinner! I forgot to make dinner jagiya! You must be starving.” Wooyoung exclaimed once he snapped out of his daze.

San just chuckled at how cute his mate was. “It’s okay baby.”

“But I was going to make samgyeopsal…” Wooyoung said with a pout.

San reassured him with a light press of his lips to the omega’s forehead, “It’s okay Young-ah I promise.”

San pulled back from his lover only to press his face to Wooyoung’s neck, lightly nuzzling against the soft skin there. As his pregnancy progressed, Wooyoung’s natural strawberry scent became creamier, almost sweeter. The alpha found himself absolutely addicted to how good his smell was.

“I ordered gukbap from that place you like so much.” San said with his lips still pressed against the omega’s neck as he started to leave light pecks.

“You didn’t have to jagi,” Wooyoung said with a pout even though he was really happy he was going to have one of his favorite meals for dinner. “I wouldn’t mind making us something quick.”

“Baby, I love that you always want to cook for me but it’s okay if you need to take a break. Cmon, let’s go eat before the food gets cold.” San finally pulled away from his mate and got up with his hands extended to help the omega up.

Wooyoung smiled at San's insistence and nodded. “Okay, okay,” he conceded, letting San pull him up from the warmth of his nest.

San smiled, admiring the way Wooyoung moved, groggy yet gracefully. He slipped an arm around Wooyoung's waist and guided him out of the bedroom and into the kitchen, where the scent of warm, delicious gukbap spread through the air.

Wooyoung couldn't help but let out a small groan of delight. “Oh, jagi, this was a great choice! You know me so well,” he teased, playfully nudging San with his shoulder as they walked to the dining table.

San smiled at Wooyoung while the omega happily dug into his food. San always believed that one of the greatest privileges in life he got to have was watching Wooyoung enjoy things. Whether it was dancing, playing with kids, eating food, the alpha just loved to watch his mate be happy.

“What?” Wooyoung asked when he caught a glimpse of the other staring at him with an adorning  smile. Even though they had been together for years now, the way San looked at him never failed to not make him a little shy.

“Have I ever told you how happy you make me?”

“Hmm,” Wooyoung pretended to think, always so teasing. “I don’t think you have. Would you mind telling me?”

“Of course I wouldn’t mind.” San said, his smile spreading wider. “You make me the happiest man alive, Wooyoung. I mean, just look at you. You're beautiful, kind, and you're going to be an amazing parent. Seeing you care for our baby already makes my heart swell. Just watching you be your adorable self every day is like the best gift I could have ever asked for.”

Wooyoung blushed a deep crimson at his mate’s confession. He felt giddy: he knew San loved him of course, but he could never grow tired of hearing San talk about him. “Stop it, you’re making me all flustered,” he replied, stirring his food absently.

But San could see the way his mate’s eyes sparkled with delight. “I’m just being honest,” he said with a light chuckle. He reached across the table to take Wooyoung’s hand in his own, squeezed it gently, their fingers intertwining perfectly.

“While we’re at it, I think you are going to be a fantastic mother.”

“Do you really think so?” Wooyoung asked, vulnerability slipping into his voice. He nervously bit his lip as anxiety began to creep over him. Noticing this, San gave his hand another squeeze in hopes of calming his nerves.

“I know so,” San affirmed. “Sure, it’s normal to have worries, to feel anxious, but look at how you take such good care of our baby already- even before they’re here.” He glanced back at Wooyoung’s baby bump, pride swelling in him all over again. He knew it wasn’t easy for his mate after their previous loss, but he was so proud of how far Wooyoung had come with his new pregnancy.

“You’re so perfect Young-ah. I’m the luckiest person alive.” San said while pulling the omega’s hand to his lips to press a kiss against his lover’s knuckles.

Wooyoung’s eyes glazed over with tears, touched by his lover’s kind words. “Thank you jagi. I’m so scared something bad might happen again… I don’t want to lose our baby.” Wooyoung said as his tears finally broke free and fell down his face. This prompted the alpha to get up and pull his mate into his embrace.

San let out calming pheromones to soothe Wooyoung’s nerves as the younger softly sniffled through his tears. “And we won’t Young-ah. We won’t.” San said with his nose in the omega’s soft hair, holding him tighter.

“Hey, how about we curl up to watch that new drama Yunho mentioned the other day?” San suggested in an attempt to change their mood into a lighter one. Still sniffling, Wooyoung agreed, “Can I nest while we watch it?”

“Of course baby, go set up your nest in the living room while I clean up.”

“You sure? I can clean up, you must be tired.”

“Not at all. Go, I’ll join you in a minute,” San said as he watched how Wooyoung's face lit up with joy, a small, grateful smile spreading across his lips. His own lips mirrored his mate’s. With a soft nod, Wooyoung bounded off to the living room, energy surging through him despite the earlier fatigue.

San took a moment to admire how his mate moved around the house, the way he embraced the mundane and turned it into something beautiful. As Wooyoung fluffed up pillows and arranged blankets into their nest, San couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of love and adoration.

After washing the dishes, San walked over to the living room, peeking in to see Wooyoung snuggled up inside their nest, Byeol already nestled against him. The sight tugged at San's heartstrings. "Are you ready for our drama marathon?" San teased as he nestled beside Wooyoung.

"Absolutely," Wooyoung responded, his smile brightening the dim room. The opening credits of the drama began with a soft melody, and San reached over, intertwining his fingers with Wooyoung's. The omega purred contently in his lover’s embrace, snuggling further into San.

As the story unfolded on the screen, San stole glances at his mate, who was completely engrossed. Wooyoung’s animated expressions brought a smile to his face.

“Jagi, look at this part! Can you believe what he just did?” Wooyoung exclaimed. San only chuckled at his mate’s reaction while pulling him close to press a kiss to Wooyoung’s temple.

As the drama progressed, San couldn’t help but reflect on how much had changed in their lives. The trials they faced, the heartbreak, the joy. But he wouldn’t change any of it.

He felt Wooyoung lean into him, his head finding a comfortable spot against San’s shoulder. The alpha smiled down at his sleepy mate, the tension fading from Wooyoung's form as he rested. “You’re going to miss the good parts,” San murmured, teasingly but softly.

“Just... give me a moment,” Wooyoung muttered sleepily, nuzzling closer. San’s heart swelled as he adjusted, holding his mate with his arm and settling into a comfortable position. The hand that wasn’t around his mate came to rest against Wooyoung’s bump, softly caressing him. He’d like to think that their baby could feel their father embracing them through the skin.

The drama carried on, the plot thickening, yet all San could focus on was the warmth of Wooyoung at his side. He could feel their baby moving slightly beneath Wooyoung’s skin and a smile stretched across his face. “Wooyoung,” San softly called out to his mate.

“Hm?” Wooyoung kept his eyes closed, a soft smile gracing his lips.

“I love you.”

“I love you too, jagi,” Wooyoung replied without hesitation, warmth threading through his words. San pressed a soft kiss to the top of Wooyoung’s head, letting himself drift off amidst the sounds of the drama and the comforting rhythm of their breaths.

Life together was beautiful, and as they prepared to welcome their little one, it was only the beginning of a new adventure.
