Chapter Text
Regulus hadn’t spoken to his brothers for years up until last year. They’re relationship had been rocky their entire childhood and when he turned 16, he had run away to live with his boyfriend. Regulus never blamed him, their childhood was shit, but having to bear the weight of his parents all by himself really didn’t help his mental health at all and Regulus found himself in a bad place for years until he could move out. He found a life for himself, a good partner and home to grow old in. He had disconnected from his parents completely and moved far away, following his love wherever his heart desired, not complaining once.
Regulus reconnected with his brother last year, old and crippled, knocking on his door with teary eyes. His husband, James, had died due to cancer and Regulus was alone and didn’t know how to go on. He always knew where Sirius lived and always had his contact, even if they hadn’t spoken in so long. Lost in his mind, he somehow found himself shaking on his brother's door step, quietly knocking, not expecting anyone to actually hear and answer. Sirius had quickly come to his side and helped him recover and heal, even though that wound would never fully close. Regulus misses James every day, and when he first walked into Sirius’ home to find him to still be happily married with the same man he left Regulus for all those years ago, he broke down sobbing in his brother's arms, jealous that he still had someone who loved him.
A year has passed since then, Regulus getting more and more comfortable in his brother's home, having been invited to live with them. Regulus had especially gotten to grow close with Remus, enjoying the way he told his stories and made tea in the morning for everyone. He admires the way he cares for his husband, Regulus’ brother, even though watching them sends a slight stab to his heart every time. As for his brother, they’ve gotten closer and have become closer over the year.
One day Regulus and Sirius were sitting outside with their tea that Remus had made before he left to go to the store and watching the cars drive by. “Hey Sirius?” He peered over his mug, looking at his brother through the steam rising up into the air.
“Hm?” He tilted his head in the way he always did when questioned, left eyebrow slightly raised.
“Can you tell me the story of how you and Remus met and fell in love?” Last week was the one year anniversary of James’ death and Regulus had their story replaying in his head all week, from the moment he first laid eyes on James to the last. Everyday. He needed a new picture to play in his mind.
Sirius nodded slightly, putting his mug down on the small table next to him, folding his hands and placing them in his lap. He smiled as he closed his eyes and leaned his head back, as if he was rewinding a tape to the beginning.
“I was seven and he was nine, I looked at him like the stars that shined in the sky, the pretty lights…”
