Work Text:
The school year in Auradon has started almost four months ago, Chloe and Red have had limited interactions even as roommates. Chloe can't wrap her head around the fact that this is the girl that helped save her mom considering they only talk if the other needs something.
One night Red was horribly late to come back to her dorm, this was not completely unusual for her, she sometimes stayed out doing whatever until midnight at the latest but this time she came back at three in the morning. Red grabbed her key from her back pocket and gently opened the door as quietly as she possibly could, trying her best not to wake the blue haired girl. To her surprise Chloe was wide awake and looked like she hasn't even thought of sleeping yet.
"Where the actual fuck have you been Red. You had me worried sick!" She said in a frustrated tone. Even though the two girls didn't talk alot, Charming still cared alot about Red; maybe a little more than she should.
"Do you always stay awake waiting for me to come back?"
''Well obviously not." Chloe stuttered out "But i know you normally come back no later than midnight; besides that's not what's important here. Why were you out so late, Hearts?"
The redhead was slightly flustered by the seemingly innocent nickname Chloe had given her, but she couldn't show her that. "I was out with a guy. Is that a problem?" She answered while locking the door behind her.
Chloe felt weird hearing that for some reason, it’s not like she hadn’t expected it. "No, I suppose that's not a problem but I'd appreciate if you told me next time so i don't have to stay up all night wondering if you're safe."
"You don't have to do that, you know." Red mumbled out. "Besides why do you even care so much?"
Chloe rolled her eyes at Red, not in an annoyed way, more like in a 'what a stupid question' way. "You should just go to bed, we have class tomorrow." She said before turning her back to Red and heading to her bed.
"As you wish, princess."
Princess? The redhead hasn't called Chloe that since they went back in time. Almost made her stop in her tracks.
The next morning rolled around, and as per usual Chloe was already up and ready to start her day, Red on the other hand was just starting to roll out of bed. They sat in a comfortable silence as the blue haired girl waited for Hearts to fully wake up. “I honestly don’t understand why you torture yourself and wake up so early. We have plenty of time left.” The redhead spoke as she got up and stretched, leaving a tiny bit of her lower stomach uncovered. “Well, since you’re dying to know, I start my morning with some practice then go shower before classes start.” The princess replied, her eyes flickering down to Red’s bare skin, trying not to make it obvious.
The wonderlandian chuckled lowly as she heard the bluenette’s answer. “How about, you wake me up tomorrow and I come with you to practice, hm? I wanna see what’s so amazing about the great Chloe Charming everyone talks about.” She said in a sort of playful tone as she rummaged through her clothes, trying to pick out today’s outfit. Was Red trying to actually spend some time with her roommate or was she just throwing words around? Because Chloe could swear up and down that the Red she knew two days ago wouldn’t have even spoken a word to her all morning. “Sure, Hearts I’ll wake you up the same time i do but you have no right to go complaining about it.” Chloe replied, amused at her roommate’s sudden want to socialize with her. “Uh huh, I’ll keep the complaints to a minimum.” Red said matching her friend’s energy as she walked into the bathroom to get ready. The blue haired girl couldn’t help but smile to herself as the other girl closed the door.
The rest of the day went by smoothly, Chloe getting all her work done, attending her classes, Red skipping most her lessons and probably not even owning a pen four months into the school year, the usual.
Apart from that, the princess couldn’t help but wonder why her roommate suddenly wanted to be all buddy buddy with her. Was it something she did, maybe? She had no idea but damn did she like the attention she was finally getting from Red.
When the school day was finally over, Chloe headed back to her shared dorm, dropping her bag next to her bed and plopping onto it. “Damn, today sure did a number on you, Charming.” The princess turned around immediately not expecting anyone to be in the dorm, like every other day of the week. “Well this is new, you miss me that much?” Chloe said jokingly as she looked over to her roommate who was just laying in her own bed doodling. “Mmm yeah, maybe” The redhead stated, which caught her friend off guard. “But i just wanted to ask you a question about biology.” The bluenette cocked an eyebrow at what the girl sitting across from her just said. “You? interested in biology? that’s a first, but yeah shoot.” Red smiled, satisfied with Chloe’s answer before she grabbed her book from her plain black bag and went to sit right next to her roommate. Like right next to her. The wonderlandian flipped to the right page and placed her book right on Chloe’s lap, looking up at her. “Basically just this, i’m kinda struggling.” The princess then nodded and began explaining the one chapter that Red didn’t understand, but turned out that it was much more than just that. So, Chloe, like the good friend she is tried to help her roommate with everything from the beginning of year. Red surprisingly kept up for a long while, until she finally gave out and fell asleep right then and there. On Chloe’s bed. Her head on her roommates chest. The princess was fucked and she knew it. Red just looked so peaceful and she didn’t wanna risk waking her up, so she just let her sleep, until she dozed off herself too.
The sun was finally rising, and it was Chloe’s time to wake up, but today, so was Red’s. As the bluenette started batting her eyes open, starting to be aware of her surroundings, she takes a deep breath in, knowing her roommate is currently cuddled up to her and that she’s going to have to wake her up. With that she took her free arm (the one that Red wasn’t sleeping on) and gently poked her roommate a couple times “Red?” The girl suddenly jolted awake, looking around, slowly realizing what happened. “Oh my god…” she mumbled underneath her breath. “I am so sorry I must’ve been exhausted” Chloe smiled at the girl, getting out of the bed “Don’t worry about it. You sleep well?” Red nodded, sitting up straight while she looked up at her roommate that was now standing up. “You always look this good when you wake up?” She asked like it was the most casual thing in the world but Chloe was sure that her heart skipped a beat. Or maybe a couple. She couldn’t let her facade slip tho “I mean yeah, if you woke up earlier you’d get to enjoy this more often.” She replied while grabbing her clothes. “Now get up and get ready I will not be late.” She demanded and Red obliged.
Couple minutes later, both girls were ready. Chloe grabbed her gear and they were out the door. The walk to the gymnasium was quiet, other than the sound of birds or the bluenette’s humming.
When they were finally there, Red sat aside, waiting to see her roommate do what she does best. And she didn’t only want to watch this for the skill. Chloe was pretty pleasing to look at too, but she didn’t have to know that.
The princess started off with some stretching before getting into the real thing. After she was done, she grabbed her sword and like clockwork one of her teammates walked in “Ready to get beaten again?” She asked him as she dapped him up “Oh please.” With that the ‘match’ started, the sound of the swords clinking together and the players’ heavy breathing filling the air.
Red couldn’t deny the fact that Chloe was amazing. Her footwork, her coordination, everything looked like it was crafted to perfection, but so was she. The redhead couldn’t keep her eyes off Chloe, the sweat rolling down her face, her panting, that smug smile she has as a result of knowing she’s going to win. It was almost driving her insane. Red was zoned out, thinking anything but holy thoughts as the match ended. But something caught her eye, making her snap out of it.
Chloe was taking her sweatshirt off, with one hand and a quick swoop she was left in her white tank top, making her glossy muscles look just right, Red was absolutely gawking as her roommate grabbed water and downed it. The princess’s friend was already walking out as she wiped off her sweat with a towel. “Careful Hearts, you stare like that in public and people might have some thoughts.” Red raised her eyebrows, humming lowly after she heard Chloe’s words, getting up and walking towards her. “What are they going to think exactly?”
“That you have a thing for me.”
Red still walking closer to Chloe let out a playful scoff. “And if i do? You gonna give me something to help with that thing or?”
The blunette smirked at Red, grabbing her stuff, turning around and starting to walk towards the locker room “You wish, Hearts.”
Chloe couldn’t see but Red had a slight smile tugging at her lips. The redhead admired her roommate for a second, the tank top, the blue and yellow auradon prep sweatpants, the sweatshirt that was slung on her shoulder. God she looked sogood.
