Work Text:

Funnily enough, this wasn’t how you predicted spending New Year's Eve.

If you were told that you would’ve been spending the holiday in the Devildom, living with 7 demon brothers, having almost been killed by one of them, you would’ve laughed in disbelief. There’s absolutely no way that could be true.

Yet, here you are.

Sitting in the living room with all 7 of the brothers. Trying to discreetly keep an eye on the one that’s made his way into your heart the earliest on.

You looked around at your surroundings, eyes not lingering on much for long. Levi had ventured out of his room and set up monitors in the living room, all so everyone could watch the ball drop in New York. When the boys had heard about this tradition, they all excitedly tried to figure out how to make this New Years similar to your previous ones, despite you clarifying that it was okay if things were a bit different.

But their determination is what led you to be prepping 8 cups for grapes. 12 grapes per cup, like you’ve always done. One grape for each month of the year to help bring in the good luck.

Belphie and Beel walk over to you.

Belphie rests his head on your shoulder, while clinging onto that cow print pillow he’s dragged around as long as you’ve known him. While you two didn’t start off on the best of terms, as being a manipulative liar rarely works out for anyone, you’ve found a calming presence in him. His personality blends into your frantic workings quite well.

Beel stands on the other side of you, and he smiles at you when you look up at him.

“So this is what humans do then? Eat grapes and hope for the best?” Belphie practically yawns out his question.

“Not all, I just grew up with this tradition. I have some family friends that believe the color of underwear even affects the type of year you’ll have.” You respond chuckling. “Once I’m done setting up the cups, do you want the rest of the grapes, Beel?”

Beel’s stomach growled loudly and his cheeks flushed a light pink. “Yeah, I’d like that.”

You turned around and found Asmo perked up staring at you expectantly. “Yes?”

“Well it’s just that I couldn’t help but overhear that you mentioned a different type of tradition? One that I could definitely get behind..” Asmo purred out the last sentence.

You smiled and softly laughed. “Like I was mentioning to Belphie and Beel, I don’t personally follow that tradition.”

“Maybe you should.”

“Wouldn’t you like to know?”

“Are you saying I wouldn’t get even a peek?”

Mammon practically flails in between us, facing Asmo.

“Woah woah, why are we talking about their underwear? No one’s seeing anyone’s underwear!” He’s trying to frantically “protect” you, not caring to notice the looks Belphie’s shooting at you from across the room.

See, Belphie’s known about your crush on his older brother for quite a long moment – it being part of the reason you’re so close now. No matter how much he tried to tell you that the feelings were reciprocated, you were hesitant to make the first move. You didn’t want to make things weird between you two – let alone his other brothers.

Asmo starts up again, trying to get a rise out of Mammon even more now. “I think I out of everyone would get to see their underwear…”

Mammon without thinking, speaks, “If anybody was gonna see their underwear, it would be me! I’m their first!” Upon realizing what he just said, his face turns bright red. He turns towards you and begins to stammer out explanations.

“Mamms, it’s all good. Don’t worry.”

Satan decides now to speak and join the conversation, “What does underwear have to do with the new year anyways?”

“Oh, yeah that might be important info, huh. The color is supposed to signify what you want in the new year. So like, white for peace, yellow for money, red for love.”

The boys look puzzled at your explanation.

“It’s not like you wear them and it’s guaranteed. As far as I’m aware it’s mostly like a Hispanic tradition, I just happened to grow up in a family that managed to avoid that superstition. If that makes sense?”

The boys nod, seemingly more pleased at this.

“Anyways, I don’t do it and no one here has earned the privilege of seeing my underwear.”

Asmo pouts, while Mammon sputters and turns an even deeper shade of red. You smile and shake your head, used to their behaviors.

You glance back at the monitor, seeing that it’s less than 10 minutes until midnight. You feel a buzzing excitement at what this new year might have in store for you. It was crazy getting here, it’ll probably be even crazier in the future.

Belphie speaks up, “Don’t humans also believe in a midnight kiss on New Year’s?”

You turn to him, “Yeah, why?”

Belphie gives me a knowing and pointed look, and glances in Mammon’s direction ever so briefly. “Would be a shame if you couldn’t participate in another one of your traditions.”

You give Belphie a look, lips pulled into a tight smile with your eyes doing all of the unspoken talking. You clear your throat, “Anyways…”

Asmo raises his hand, “I mean, I volunteer if no one else wants to!”

Mammon shoots Asmo a glare, “Hey! What makes ya think they’d wanna kiss you?”

Belphie, while watching your reaction, says, “If you think that, maybe you should kiss them Mammon.”

You feel your soul leave your body as all of the brothers watch you, trying to gauge your reaction to the offer. Asmo walks up and tries to cling to your arm, while both Satan and Lucifer watch from their seats. Levi had even looked up from his phone game, interested in the current conversation.

While it’s not like you’ve been hiding your crush, you’ve definitely only directly mentioned it to Belphie. Which means that only he and Beel knew – they’re twins, and it’s only normal that Belphie tells Beel everything.

Then you meet Mammon’s eyes. His eyes seemed brighter than normal – full of hope one could say. His mouth slightly parted in shock, cheeks flushed at Belphie’s suggestion. Both of you seemed frozen by someone else giving you both the push you need.

Lucifer, being the one to break the tension, says “I think we should leave them to celebrate. Alone.”

The brothers, apart from Belphie, all groan and try to protest leaving the room. Beel rushes to pick up the cups of grapes – leaving only two left. You glance at Lucifer, the last to leave the room. He simply smiles softly, and gestures towards his younger brother.

You return your gaze to Mammon. You feel your cheeks burning in embarrassment, unsure how to proceed.

“I’m sorry.” You feel your voice leave your body, anxious about the immediate future.

“What ya sorry for? Ya don’t have to kiss me, like ya said this isn’t necessary.”

“I just- like, you know? I’m not saying I don’t want to kiss you, I just-”

“Wait, does this mean ya want to kiss me?” Mammon steps closer to you.

“I mean, yeah?” You look down, unsure of where to go now that you’ve confessed.

Luckily, Mammon knows exactly what to do for you. He closes the gap between your bodies, wrapping an arm around your waist and having the other cup the back of your head.

“If it makes ya feel better, I wanna kiss ya too.”

You glance over at the monitor, watching the 10 second countdown to midnight. You turn your head back to Mammon, meeting his eyes.

As the clock strikes midnight, you both lean in and kiss. You pull apart and look at him.

“Well these grapes aren’t gonna eat themselves.” You hand him his cup, and begin eating the grapes.

Taking the cup from your hands, he goes, “Clearly, I didn’t need the grapes for good luck.”

After both of your cups are empty, you put them down and turn back to each other.

“And I guess I didn’t need the underwear either.”

Mammon chokes on air at your joke.

Maybe this new year would be really good for you both. You'll have to thank Belphie for his scheming later.
