Eddie has just finished writing down his new year’s resolutions.
His list is not much, just regular goals that can be seen on any man’s resolution list, from losing weight to learning a new skill. The weight loss part might be tricky, since he’s eating for two now, him and Venom. And it’s not like he can go to the gym and lift some weights without the supernatural assistance from his alien boyfriend. Yet, Eddie put it there anyway. Venom should be responsible for adjusting their diet.
“Eddie,” Venom materializes from behind him, looking at the list on Eddie’s notebook as if he hadn’t seen it through Eddie’s eyes the whole time. “Why’d you keep writing all those goals when you never completed them?”
Eddie’s face distorts at the remark. He’s too familiar with Venom’s jokes at him being a loser, which always prompt him to forge an annoyed reply. It’s just their love language. “What do you mean never completed them?”
“Eddie, ever since I started living inside you, you have never spent more than 30 minutes at the gym, you have never picked up your Mandarin book, you have never done business, how could you expect to lose weight, learn a new language, or start-up?” Venom reads Eddie his record. He’s not wrong.
“Ouch!” Eddie says with his most normal tone possible, he expected Venom would say such a thing. “You know, I would appreciate some support from my boyfriend rather than discouragement.”
“I am not discouraging you, Eddie,” Venom reasons, “I’m letting you know that your goals are unrealistic, you’re setting yourself up for disappointments. When you’re disappointed, your body secretes chemicals I do not like. I like my Eddie proud, and happy.” Venom leans into Eddie’s face, he knows Eddie could never turn down a cuddle from him.
“So this is what it’s about, huh?” Eddie smiles as he pats on Venom’s head. “You’re saving me from a heartbreak?”
“That is correct, Eddie,” Venom confirms. “I like you happy, and I’m making you happy.”
“I can’t argue with that,” Eddie snorts. “I am happy, Venom. I’m happy because I have you. I’ve been happy ever since you appeared in my life.”
“You almost died a lot of times, Eddie,” Venom speaks matter-of-factly.
“I’m trying to be romantic here...”
“Fine, Eddie, ever since me,” Venom snuggles up to Eddie’s chin again.
“Yeah, ever since you,” Eddie kisses the top of the head of his boyfriend.
And with that, Eddie casually adds another goal on his list – live every day happily with Venom.
Mission accomplished.
