Chapter 1: New Roommate
Chapter Text
School was about to start back up from break and Feliciano was playing video games with his friend Kiku. Their university had to shut down momentarily due to an incident with one of the students in the dormitories but the issue had been fixed and the two wanted to get used to living in a apartment together again.
The black haired individual was swirving his controller, an intense gaze on the computer in front of them displaying a split screen with two cars in the foreground. The ginger next to him would curse in his native tongue every time he hit a corner at a sharp turn or an item was thrown his way. A minute had passed and with that the other man had swiftly won the Grand Prix.
"Yatta!!" He'd exclaim.
Feliciano pouted, "That'sa no fair Kiku, you always win against me in these kinds of games." He'd drop his controller and flail his arms around as he complained, "You don't even know how to drive in real life!"
"Video games and real life are different." He turned towards his roomate, serious expression on his face, "I have mastered the art of these games through skill and experience!"
"Ve.." he'd place both hands on his friend's shoulders, looking him in the eyes, or would be if he didn't have that stupid look stuck on his face where his eyes look like equal signs, "You're too invested in games, Kiku. You need to be careful or you'll become a hitokomori.."
"Actually, Its Hikikomori—"
Before Honda could continue to educate Feliciano on his mistake there was an aggressive knock on the door. Honda quickly rose and Feliciano slowly rose after, following him like a shadow. The black haired man opened the door and eyes widened when he saw the headmaster standing before him.
She was an older woman with dark skin and a cleanly trimmed bob. She was adorned with gold jewelry, formal clothing and a necklace with a jeweled pendant in the shape of a cat that had a sapphire gem for an eye.
"H-Headmaster! What brings you here?!" Honda bowed as if by reflex.
Feliciano grabbed him by the back of his shirt collar and pulled him to rise back up, "Mrs. Kemet?!"
"Hello children- don't be alarmed. I just have a question for you two I hope this isn't a bad time." She had such a warm smile with a voice as sweet as pudding to match. Honda and Feliciano obviously weren't using their downtime for anything important, so they invited her in to chat.
"Could I get you any tea, Headmaster?"
"No need, I don't intend to stay long."
The ginger boy pulled a chair out for Kemet and once she sat down, he followed suit. Adjacent to him sat down the more reserved man and with that Kemet took a breath and began to speak.
"You boys understanding that you have one of the bigger rooms in the complex, yes?"
They nodded.
"It's not a bad thing- it's a benefit for you two but it doesn't really affect anything. Anything but this completely optional choice I have for you two." They looked at each other in confusion. Why was the headmaster suddenly talking about the size of their room?
"You two seem confused so I'll jump straight to the point. There's this other student you may or may not have run into named Ludwig Beilschmidt. In fact, his elder brother is the reason on campus studies were closed... " She pressed two fingers on the bridge of her nose, trying not to get annoyed at the thought of the man, " He's fed up with the behavior of his brother and that's something I can sympathize with. So he asked if he could switch dorms, to which I answered him: If I can find you some classmates willing to take another in. You can move in with an existing pair."
"I can assure you that he's a well behaved young man and won't cause you any trouble, unlike his older brother." She passed a file to the two men, presumably filled with information on the man she was legally able to disclose.
Honda skimmed over the document, Feliciano peeked to look if there was a picture of him anywhere but none was provided. Ludwig Beilschmidt, Engineering major. Personal notes from the Headmaster and other faculty say he's a no nonsense type with a strong sense of integrity and morals, work driven and excells in academics. He had morning classes just like Feliciano so he shouldn't mess with their schedule all too much. All-in-all, a good roomate to have. Honda turned to Feliciano for any sense that he'd be uncomfortable, but the other just smiled.
"It's okay with us, Headmaster-san."
"I'm glad! Also I told you to drop the 'san' but it seems you forgot again.. "
"My apologies! I'm still not used to the laidbackness of the west!" He bowed his head to which his friend chuckled at.
"No worries." She said, taking the document and walking towards the door. "Your new roomate should be here tomorrow after his classes to move in. Make sure to treat him well."
"Will do!"
"Will do~!"
And with that, she left.
・・・ (=ヮ=)೨
The day went by quite swiftly and the two went on with their normal schedule before school let out as usual. Feliciano got up extremely early to shower, brush his teeth, take care of hygiene and heat up some leftovers from dinner to eat. He'd leave something already plated for Kiku in the microwave and left for his morning classes.
He'd wave to all the girls he walked by with a smile and throughly enjoyed his day. While walking to class he'd overhear a conversation from two men with thick german-sounding accents. The first man was obnoxiously loud with platinum blonde hair and unnaturally ruby colored eyes, the other spoke very posh with dark maroon colored hair and a mole by his lip.
"Ja, so he really moved out from ME his awesome older bruder just because of a little mishap that happened- Can you believe that??"
"Ich kann, Gilbert. Your 'little mishap' had the university temporarily shut down. If I was him I wouldn't have even waited for that to happen and moved out from you immediately."
The blonde jumped up in surprise, "Ridiculous! I am AWESOME! You would be lucky to room with me because you would have someone to clean up after your lazy self!" He'd flick his hand as if flipping hair, "Honestly I am unsure how that prick you are rooming with and Erzsébet are able to deal with your incompetent self!"
"If you are just here to insult me in stead of your brother than I'll just go-" He'd then walk off, the other chasing after him.
"I am not hearing any denying!!"
So that was definitely the guy who got school called out. Feliciano knew the name Beilschmidt sounded familiar but he had no idea it was Gilbert Beilschmidt. That guy was the life of every party thrown at their university but he had no idea that he had a brother that went to this school. Thinking about it now though, Gilbert did brag about his "baby brother" a lot but with the way he spoke of him Feliciano was almost sure his brother was an actual baby, not a grown man. Feliciano just hoped that Beilschmidt's brother's report was accurate and his new roomate was a nice guy.
"Regret~~"
・・・(ㅍ_ㅍ)
The time of sun was almost over, and ironically that is when Honda Kiku rose. He took care of all normal hygiene stuff, got dresses in something stylish yet comfy, and checked the microwave for some food. He'd smile softly seeing that Italy left the plate already set with a sticky note placed on the food cover that read; Keep Up The Good Work !! Feliciano was always thoughtful like that. Honda picked up the note, folded it and put it in his pocket, he often kept these motivators with him throughout the day.
With that he heated up the food. When the microwave beeped to announce his breakfast had been heated, he grabed the plate and some chopsticks and quietly began eating when the door swung open.
"Sono a casa~~!" Sing-songed the more chipper man with a wide smile.
"Hello Feli, thank you for today's note."
"No problema, buddy!" He'd take a seat across from the other, dropping his bag down at the chaired side with a sigh.
"Rough day? Honda asked. Days were not usually rough for Feliciano. It's not like he didn't have any struggles or anything like that- more like nothing ever got to him.
The Italian would drop his head on the table, arms laid dead on either side of himself and whined, "Not that it was rough but I'm actually starting to be anxious about this new guy. I overheard Gilbert talking to this other guy about the situation and that's when I realized.... he's his brotherrrrr."
"You didn't know?" Honda almost dropped his food from his chopsticks, "They have the same last name, it was pretty obvious."
"Mh.. Yes, but uh- I don't really remember last names of people."
Honda sighed, and as if his sigh had activated it, a knock on the door could be heard.
"That must be him."
Following the knock, the door began to open revealing a tall blonde man with a muscular figure and bright sky blue eyes. He had something of a resting bitch face but you could tell he tried to put on a nice face for the others sake. All things considereded he was a nice looking guy- the type you'd look up to in the military.
"So sorry to bother you- I hope I am not interrupting. I was given the key to the room so I assumed it wouldn't be rude to open a room I'm having access to and supposed to live in." He'd apologize sincerely and stood at the doorway- he likely felt much like an intruder despite this being his new home for the rest of his academic career.
"It is no bother, I am Honda Kiku. I major in art- allow me to take your bags- and please leave your shoes at the door." Honda rose from his seat to help out.
"I-I'm Feliciano Veneziano Vargas! I also major art!"
"Ah.. two art majors. Don't worry about my bags, I got them." He picked up all of his bags with ease. Of course a man with a build like him wouldn't struggle with lifting but damn. He placed his bags down inside and removed his shoes before walking further into the apartment, closing the door behind him.
"You may call me Ludwig Beilschmidt. I major in Engineering and have a morning class schedule much like your far more ecstatic friend here. I look forward to rooming with you both and hope to become good friends."
Good friends with someone as serious and scary as him?? Yeah right. Feliciano was practically shaking. For being Gilbert's younger brother the two looked nothing alike. Gilbert's hair is messy and bleached silver, Ludwig's a natural bright blonde and neatly slicked back. Gilbert was shorter, louder with red eyes. Despite his intense stare, Ludwig's were a calm blue and though his voice had bass- he wasn't practically screaming every word like his older brother.
Would they really get along?
Though Honda would never admit it, he was thinking the same thing as Feliciano. Honda and Feliciano had been friends long enough that they could almost communicate just by looking at each other. They both knew they thought the same of their intimidating new roomate. But he seemed nice and Honda aspired to be an optimist so they shook it off.
Honda resisted the urge to bow and extended a hand to the German, "I hope to become good friends as well, Mr. Beilschmidt."
"Me too!" exclaimed the Italian, throwing his hand out.
They all shook hands.

To say things were just awkward with their new roommate would be an understatement. He was very strict and although he tried his best to respect that this wasn't his place until just yesterday- he had a few compalints. Eventually, Ludwig and Honda came to an agreement to hold a flat meeting.
Ludwig slammed his hands down on the dining table. "I would like to start this meeting off with an apology. I understand that we only just recently became roommates and your time with me has been unpleasant but I have a feeling this meeting will bring order und pleasure to all of us."
"heheh~ Ludwig said pleasure ~" Feliciano chucked.
"Feliciano have you been drinking? " Ludwig facepalmed, "We are not children please refrain from making such elementary jokes. "
"Sorry... "
"It's Okay. " With that, the blonde sat down, " There are a few things I noticed and I would like to set some rules and come to an agreement with you both. One thing I noticed is that Kiku is the one that pulls most of the weight here. Feliciano, only do you occasionally cook but all the laundry, cleaning, dishes and household tasks falls to Kiku. You throw your trash all over and leave the heavy lifting to him. "
"Hai, I agree. " Honda nodded.
"Oh I'm sorry, Kiku.." Feliciano looked dejected, "You never complained about it before.."
"Simply because he is too quiet to do so- und also! Feliciano you can be quite loud at times.. on calls with women, gaming and such." He then turned to Honda, " Kiku.. I fear you are taking on too many responsibilities. Though I must warn you that in the night when you are playing your games you tend to get very loud. "
"Y-You heard me?! " Kiku's voice raised for the first in a while and his face flushed a bright pink against his slightly tanned skin and he began to ramble, "Mr. Beilschmidt it's not what it sounds like I wasn't doing anything weird and my hype for games and anime girls is perfectly normal I suppose that I'm just so used to Feliciano being loud that I picked up after his habits when playing my games- but if I said anything concerning—"
Before Honda could continue, Ludwig cut him off, "Trust me, Kiku. I did not understand much of what you were saying, I only heard the volume. Nor are your interests my concern." He sighed.
"Just please. Try to be more mindful."
"Hai!" Honda responded.
"I just wish we could split responsibilities most equally und be more mindful of each other. That is all." He looked at the two, "Any questions, comments or concerns?"
"Mm.. Yes." The black-haired man turned to face his ginger friend, "Feli, please clean the shower and mirror after you use it."
"Ve-?! But the bathroom is always clean.."
"Because I clean it for you.." Honda looked away, a bit awkward.
The Italian's curl seemed to wilt like a dead rose, his head tilting downwards and eyes looking up like a pitiful stray puppy, "Question.." He'd raise his hand. The two other men looked at him in subtle anticipation. "Do you two hate me..?"
"Feli?? Never, you are my best friend!" Honda raised his voice for the second time that day.
Ludwig looked at Feliciano with a pitiful expression. Perhaps he came on to strong, "Feliciano. I do not know you that well but from what I do know of you, I like you very much. You bring energy into this place that in contrast to my older brother- I quite enjoy."
Honda's eyes widened and covered his mouth shock, then he turned to Feliciano and Feliciano looked back at him. Dark brown and Auburn eyes then met blue ones.
"Mr. Beilschmidt is a smooth talker.."
"Real smooth~"
"V-Vhat—?!" Ludwig blushed.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
"OPEN THE DAMN DOOR I KNOW YOU ARE IN THERE!!" A voice yelled from outside the door. The voice had an extremely thick italian accent, deeper in comparison to Feliciano's pitch though. Ludwig also heard a twinge of Spanish in it but that might've just been his imagination.
BANG BANG BANG
The extremely obnoxious bangs on the door continued, relentlessly.
"Big brother~!" Feliciano hopped up from his seat and leaped towards the door.
"Big brother?" The blonde questioned.
Honda nodded, standing up, Ludwig followed suit, "Yes. Feliciano's brother is quite overprotective. He probably heard that you moved in with us already." He'd turn, having to tilt his head upwards to look the other man in the eyes, "Also, he doesn't like Germans all too much."
The door swung open and Feliciano pulled his older brother into a big hug. He'd nuzzle his face against the other like a cat, much to his brother's disgust.
"Get the hell offa me, idiota-" Feliciano's brother looked almost identical to him, they must've been twins. Sure, his brother was slightly more tanned with his hair parted differently, said hair being more brunette than ginger and eyes that seemed to be more hazel. Hell- they even had the same curl, though his brother's was on the opposite side. It was like Feliciano's reflection had come to life!
"There is the potato eating bastardo that intruded on my brother's space." He looked furious, "Listen here big guy, I'll teach you a thing or two! Thinking you can waltz on in here acting like the boss. Who said that you can live here??" He'd roll up his sleeves, presumably ready to fight the guy.
"Well.. Your bruder und his friend here agreed." Ludwig responded promptly, not being interested in this meangingless conflict.
"Bullshit! He would never!" The younger Italian grabbed the aggressor's arm.
"Lovino.. It's okay. I really did give the okay for him to live here. He's a good guy." This was the first time Ludwig heard Feliciano speak so softly with such sincerity. "Let's just sit down and talk it out." He'd speak quietly in Italian to his brother to calm him down, the other's responses slowly but surely became less aggressive. Then he approached Ludwig, looking up at him.
He'd point at Ludwig's chest, "Listen here, bastardo. I don't like Germans and I especially don't like them around my brother. If I hear even one complaint from him- it's your head!" Feliciano nudged his brother's shoulder.
"Oh. And my name is Lovino Romano Vargas, nice to meet ya."
"Likewise.. You may call me Ludwig Beilschmidt." He extended his hand towards the extremely rude man despite his better judgement. What did this guy have against Germans?
"I'll think about it." Then he shook his hand. His before angry face subtled, and he turned to Honda. "Sorry for the outburst, Kiku. How've you been?"
Was this even the same guy as before?? Now he was suddenly being sweet to Kiku. I suppose since Kiku is Feliciano's original roommate he must be used to him but still.
"I have been well." Honda smiled, "I believe we should catch up on a later date, privately, about your lab partner."
Whatever Honda was talking about caused a rush of blush to spread across Lovino's face. He looked like a little tomato, his curl obviously disturbed. "Yeah, Yeah.."
With that he'd turn to leave in a rush, face still red with embarrassment. He'd give his brother two quick air kisses on his cheeks, one of the left and another on the right, "Fammi sapere se il bastardo ti dà fastidio, ciao." Then just as loudly as his came, he left, slamming the door.
All Ludwig could do was stare at the wall in disbelief. Honda on the other hand was smiling, why was he smiling??
"I'm so sorry about my brother, Ludwig!! He really is a nice person.. he's just wary of you." Feliciano apologized frantically.
"No worries there. For some reason I believe you on that. He seems to really care about you." Although the way he went about it was extremely aggressive, Ludwig could see how soft the guy really was. He doesn't like hugs from his brother but lets him do it, constantly tries to defend him from strangers and worries about his well-being. And as far as Ludwig as seen, he's the only one Lovino was like this with. So it was okay.
The three continued to talk together after that- somehow, the atmosphere felt lighter than before.
・・・(╬ =`△=)ノ
"Yo, Dude!!!" A man with thin glasses, tanned skin and dirty blonde hair which adorned just one little cowlick setting his part offplace ran to another in a library. He was quite loud for the area he was in, but it seemed the librarian was so used to this behavior she couldn't be bothered to tell him to shut up.
The 'Dude' in question he was running to was a man with fluffy platnuim blonde hair, pale skin and the most peculiar purple eyes. He was large in stature and figure with a prominent nose and sweet face. "Alfred, you are late." He spoke every word with a smile.
"Like dude, I know but check this, brah!" He'd rummage through his bag and pulled out a jumbo sized hamburger. Even larger than normal American sizes, "WacDonalds was doing a special event where they were selling super large hamburgers and I had to snatch them before they all ran out!"
"ah."
"I even got one for you too, dude! Can't work on an empty stomach." Alfred beamed.
"This is true, but I think I will pass on the burgers. They are far too large and messy, you agree, da?" The man winced, "Not meal for library."
Alfred sunk in his chair, upset look on his face much like a kicked puppy, "But Ivaaaann~" He'd gently kick his feet much like a child throwing a tantrum, "There were only two left and I weally wanted to share with youu. I've never seen you eat American food before.."
Ivan sighed, "Well, If you say my name correctly I will agree to eat this monstrosity before me."
"Sweet dude! Time to pig out!!" Alfred was about to do just that when he turned to look at Ivan confused. "Wait- have I been calling you the wrong name?"
"Mh." He'd place a hand under his chin and looked up, "It is the pronunciation. My name in Mother Russia is pronounced like 'even', much like equality, da?" He looked straight at Alfred, "Though more of an 'evon' if that makes sense. "
"oh. "
...
"NO WAY!" He'd grab both of Ivan's shoulders shaking him, " I had no idea dude why did you wait until now to say anything to me??? I'm sorry- I'm so used to saying things the American way, it's hard man!"
"Please.. No shaking...."
"Oh, sorry." He'd then stop.
"It's fine. I understand how you Americans are and I do not blame you. You are... true of heart. I admire that about you." Ivan patted Alfred on the head, in return he'd receive a glare.
"I'm not a dog, dude."
And yet, no sign of resistance to it.
"Whatever, pass me the burger and let us begin to study. " He grinned, outstretching his hand to grab the burger.
Alfred smiled back, finishing the his own burger before Ivan could even get a bite in. Then he pulled out his laptop and notes ready to work. "Dude, yew gonna finish dat?"
"Nyet."

Chapter Text
Through the hall a myriad of wonderful tunes could be heard. It was the symphony of strings vibrating from the push and pull on a violin's bow against metal. An Austrian stood, playing his favorite song.
That tranquil peace however... was quickly interrupted by a loud riff of an electric guitar.
"JAAAAA!!" The man tore at his guitar, hopping around rapidly.
"Would you turn off that racket this instant, Gilbert?!" The Austrian turned to face the other with an angry grip on his violin's bow so tight it could snap, "I am trying to complete this piece!"
"Well, Ja, I know but you seem like you need some help.." He beamed, "-and so the great awesome Gilbert is going to help you!!"
Pensive look on his face, the other pinched between his brows and sighed.
"I'm not too fond of rock and roll, you know this."
Gilbert gave him a bored look, "It must be because of that stick stuck up your ass, Roderich.."
Suddenly there was a sound of the door bursting open with a loud bang of the door reverberating against the wall.
"Welcome back my friends! Skrrrr!!" A man with short black hair and slightly bushy brows ran in holding two drum sticks in hand and carrying an absurdly large bag on his back.
"Yong-Soo!!"
"Oh it's Yong-Soo..."
"Don't sound so disappointed to see me, Rody... I heard you two jamming out without me!!" Yong-Soo pouted.
"It was only practice. Don't be so bummed, the great and awesome Gilbert would never leave out his friends!"
"I would." Roderich chimed in.
"Whatever. We're all here now so let me set up real quick," The younger man would take out his drum set from the large bag he carried and began to set up near where Gilbert was standing. As he did so Roderich put away his violin and began to move towards the piano, massaging his fingers, " I really want to try composing a song fitting for a drama! We should watch it together some time to get a feel, Gil!"
Roderich raised a brow, "And not me?"
"If you want.. " Roderich did enjoy korean dramas as much as the other two, that's why they hung out, they all liked dramas and music. Though it was hard for Yong-Soo to consider Gilbert's cousin his friend when he constantly acted pissed off at everything. Still, the more the merrier, right?
As quick as he entered, the drums were set up. The three would warm up the instruments and fall into a groove before beginning to play. Roderich would start with a gentle play of his piano keys, it was a melody that eased the listener into a state of interest and bliss. Soon after Gilbert chimed in with his guitar, it wasn't the rampant banging thathe played earlier but a tune complimentory to the Austrian's melody. Last to join in was Yong-Soo, he followed the tempo of the other two, beating his drums with a tmpf to every four keys that Roderich pressed. Then, he started singing.
"새로운 시작은 늘 설레게 하지~" Yong-Soo began.
They continued on for a few more minutes before coming to a stop. The black-haired man panted, drops of sweat releasing themselves from the tips of his hair. Gilbert chuckled, and Roderich smiled.
That was.. really good.
