Chapter Text
"Mom, I'm off to deliver my cookies!" you announced from the front yard, placing the boxes of cookies in your bike basket.
Your mom peeked from the door, holding a spatula, "Be careful! And remember to be home by lunch." she reminded.
You smiled and nodded at your mom, you jumped over your bike and sat on the seat. Balancing the bike with one foot while locking the helmet that you wore on your head.
You delivered your orders one by one, normally you'd have taken the train but since the customers in this batch lived near your neighborhood, you used a more convenient way of transportation instead.
"Okay, last one," you muttered to yourself, parking your bike beside the gate. The house was big, the type that only rich people could afford. You wondered why upperclassmen would want to buy 'mediocre' cookies from you.
"Itoshi Rie..." you mumbled, the pressure of your index finger against the doorbell increased as you made yourself familiar with the surname.
And as soon as your hand broke contact with the buzzer, the gate opened, revealing your most dreaded person in the world.
"My mom isn't home," he starts, handing the payment. You were sure your eyes would have fallen out of your sockets if you could roll them at him right now.
"It's fine, no worries," you say. However, contrary to the reassurance your sentence wanted to convey, your tone was far from reassuring.
You turn your heel and grab your bike, still feeling the presence of the boy from behind. Your dislike towards Itoshi Rin dates back to when you were a first-year student.

"Oh my gosh! Y/n, we have to go watch the football team! They're on a match against Kaibara High!" Amari grabbed and shook you by the shoulders, your hand fell on top of hers to stop her.
"Hold on, I'll put these away first," you replied. You quickly placed the utensils and containers that you used in the sink and took a mental note to wash them up after you checked out the match Amari was talking about.
It was common knowledge that Iekami academy had the best football team within the Tokyo prefecture. Most student athletes in the academy got in through a sports scholarship, meaning to say they're all talented.
And as you stood in front of the field, you were in awe. You were never the type to be passionate about sports, though there's just something about watching someone doing something they're great at.
"Hey, did he just score from that distance?" a student right beside you scoffed in disbelief.
In all honesty, all of them were just watching one person. Dark green hair and teal eyes that scoured the whole field. After gaining another point, his teammates rushed over to him to initiate a high-five, much to their dismay he ignored it and wiped his sweat with a towel while drinking from his water bottle.
"Amari, do...do you know who that is?" you hesitantly pointed at the boy, trying to not make it too obvious that he had piqued you interest just like he had done to the majority.
Amari laughed and smacked your shoulder lightly. Your brows knit at her, Amari stops and beams, "That's Itoshi Rin!"
The exhaustion was visible on the faces of Kaibara High's players. And in just a quick second, the outcome of the game loudly screamed their defeat.
With the battle coming to an end, the crowd of students dissipated with only one person in their minds, Itoshi Rin.
You swerved your head to the back as Amari pulled you into to the entrance of your building, looking back at the field and taking a glance at the boy who had caught your attention.
You quickly looked forward, trying to push away the nagging feeling of wanting to know more about him.
Even after several days had passed, the itch never went away. You even heard some girls saying they'd confess to Itoshi Rin.
He was the type of person that every girl would admit they've had a crush on at some point.
And unfortunately, you have succumbed to his charms.
Well, what else could you have done? You were a sucker for pretty boys.
For months, you had crushed on him for afar. Doing everything you could just so you can "coincidentally" meet or be in close proximity with him.
"Woah, L/n. Free cookies again?" Watanabe Ryomei, a schoolmate of yours from middle school, smiled gratefully at you as you handed him a plate of freshly baked cookies.
You hummed, tiptoeing a bit to peek past his shoulder, checking if there was anyone inside their clubroom.
"Looking for someone?" Watanabe inquires, throwing a cookie inside his mouth, "These are superb!"
Your breath hitched at the question, "Thank you, Watanabe. And no, I'm not looking for anyone." liar.
"I see," he nods, "Do you want to stay here? the room's pretty cold." he offers, moving to the side. You were immediately greeted by the cool air that seeped out from the room.
You had no other reason to refuse, the cooking club's air-conditioning has yet to be repaired, and it was hot with the summer temperature on the rise. "Excuse me," you say as you entered.
No one else was inside, you weren't quite sure if you should be happy that you didn't have to feel awkward for intruding or be sad that he wasn't here.
You sit on the couch, your eyes explored the room. The walls were filled with medals and group pictures of the players over the years.
"I'm beat. Rin, you should take it easy on us." you jumped in your seat at the mention of an all too familiar name.
"Not my fault you can't keep up."
"Jeez, have some compassion!"
The door flared open, revealing sweaty teenage boys; their football uniforms covered in dirt and pieces of grass.
"L/n!" Yamada Kousei waves his hand at you, then his eyes fell on the plate of cookies that rested on the long wooden table near the entrance. "Your awesome cookies!" he smiled widely. "Guys, eat up! Rin, you want some?"
"No, I'm good." he blankly says, taking his stuff from his locker.
You pursed your lips, standing abruptly. "I think I have to go, nice seeing you guys."
"Aww... okay, y/n. are you going to be on your way home?" Yamada asked.
"Yeah, see you guys around." you tell them, quickly making your way towards the door.
You place a hand on your chest, feeling your beating heart pound against your ribcage. You had planned to confess today, but it seemed like it would be a better idea to push it off.
"Maybe next time." you whispered to yourself before leaving.
A few minutes prior, however, as soon as you left the room, Watanabe was met with weird and questioning stares.
"Watanabe, you got the hots for y/n?"
"What?! no!"
"Why was she here, then?"
"She was handing me her cookies!"
"She could have just handed them, why was she staying inside?"
Rin took one final look at his bantering teammates before shaking his head and rolling his eyes.
