Like Magic

Summary:

where Phuwin doesn’t have to do much to comfort Pond because it’s the little things that matter the most.

Notes:

inspired by Pond looking a little too serious in the reaction video to Sadistic MV and pondphuwin revealing at the Nivea event how they are when the other complains.

I’m no expert in writing but ppw has got me imagining what things could be and I needed an outlet so here goes nothing ☺️

Work Text:

It’s another one of those nights that Pond is sleeping over at Phuwin’s condo since they have an early morning schedule together the next day. Usually, they’ll both be doing their own thing, comfortable in silence but something about tonight is different.

Phuwin comes out of the shower and finds Pond sitting cross legged on his usual side of the bed with his laptop nestled in his lap. He is staring intently at the screen, eyebrows furrowed in frustration.

Phuwin sighs. He recognises this look. Pond’s not happy with something.

Not even noticing that Phuwin is out of the bathroom, Pond begins mumbling under his breath, his eyes glued to his laptop screen, fingers now tapping on the touchpad with a little more strength than usual.

Phuwin can’t make out what Pond is saying but he catches some curse words as he comes to stand next to Pond. He glances at the screen and realises that Pond is watching what appears to be the Sadistic MV.

“Oh, is this the MV? It’s out?” Phuwin reaches his hand out to touch Pond’s unstyled hair, patting him lightly, before his hand settles on Pond’s shoulder.

“No... not yet.” Pond lets out a breath, and closes his laptop rather agitatedly.

Phuwin expects Pond to continue talking but he falls silent, running his own fingers through his hair. The next moment, he groans, his demeanour looking like a kicked puppy.

“I can’t see it?” Phuwin asks, genuinely wondering if it was still supposed to be kept a secret from outsiders like him.

“Huh?” Pond shakes his head, “No, it’s not that… I just… I don’t think it’s up to standard. We could have done better.”

Phuwin immediately understands what is going on.

“Pond-” Phuwin tries to interrupt but Pond is caught up with venting his frustration.

“We shouldn’t have rushed it. We really should have practised more, gave it a bit more time. We should have gone through the choreo again. Maybe we could have-”

“Ai Pond!” Phuwin squeezes Pond’s shoulders with both hands and cuts him off.

Pond bites his bottom lip and looks up at Phuwin. Phuwin sees the anxiety in Pond’s eyes as their eyes meet, and it makes Phuwin’s heart sink a little.

“I’m doing it again right?” Pond gives a small helpless smile, guilty that he has allowed his worries to consume him.

“Yes, you’re overthinking.” Phuwin squeezes next to Pond on the bed and pulls him into a hug, his hand coming up to ruffle Pond’s hair, “You know you wouldn’t even have the chance to see the MV if it didn’t pass the experts… trust them, they know what they’re doing at Riser.”

“Ok…” Pond relaxes into Phuwin’s warmth, breathing in that all too familiar (comforting) scent, and pats his back, “I’ll shut up now.”

“Hmm…” Wanting to see his expression, Phuwin lets go of Pond and studies his face, “You still don’t sound convinced.”

“Just let me be?” Pond tries his luck, laughing awkwardly, hoping Phuwin will let it go, “Don’t worry, I’ll be ok.”

Phuwin squints his eyes and huffs, “I’m confiscating this then.”

He takes Pond’s laptop with him as he gets up from the bed.

“And this.” Phuwin spots Pond’s phone at the bedside table and conveniently takes it away as well.

“Ai Phuwin!”

Sulking, Pond attempts to get off the bed to go after Phuwin but when Phuwin glares at him, he falls back onto the bed defeatedly.

“Why am I always so useless against you…” Pond mutters under his breath.

Pond thinks Phuwin doesn’t hear him but he does. With his back facing Pond, Phuwin hides a grin as he keeps Pond’s stuff away in the drawer of his desk.

“Hey, I need my phone to set the alarm for tomorrow.”

“You have me. I’ll wake you up.”

“I have some texts to reply…”

“The only ones you need to reply are those from me, but I’m here with you so…”

“Phuwin…”

“Sleep.” Phuwin pushes Pond backwards so that he is finally lying down. “Now.”

Letting out a sigh, Pond gives up and pulls the blanket over them when Phuwin lies next to him.

Scooting towards Pond, Phuwin turns on his side and rests his arm over Pond’s chest, his hand coming to Pond’s heart to softly pat him in a slow, steady rhythm.

“What are you doing?” Pond asks, a little startled by Phuwin’s sudden closeness.

“Distracting you…” Phuwin mutters, his eyes closing as he prepares to sleep, “so you don’t think about anything stupid…”

Pond lets out a helpless laugh. Clearly, Phuwin knows exactly what he does to him.

Pond can’t help but take Phuwin’s hand in his. Before Phuwin can react, he raises it to his nose and gives it a little sniff kiss.

“Pond…” Phuwin frowns, wanting to move his hand away but Pond is holding him tightly.

Pond grins, “Good night.”

As sleep overtakes him, Phuwin gives in and allows Pond to continue holding his hand.

“Don’t do anything funny…” Phuwin mumbles.

“Nah…” Pond peeks at Phuwin’s face and notices that he has already drifted off to sleep.

With a smile, Pond whispers to himself “At least not tonight.”

For now, Pond thanks his lucky stars that he has Phuwin by his side.
