Work Text:
In the end moments, Jolyne found herself in a strange world where everything around her faded away. She recalled all the times she had called out her father’s name, Jotaro, only to find herself surrounded by silence. But this time, it was different. She called out for her father again, and in that moment, a response came.
“Dad.”
“Jolyne... I’m sorry I couldn't protect you more.” His words carried a heavy weight, as if they were reshaping all the memories that had suffocated her.
In that moment, Jolyne realized that her father hadn’t been a bad dad. He had been trying to protect her, carrying heavy burdens on his shoulders. She remembered her childhood, those nights when she would wake up to her father's screams. Those weren’t nightmares; they were his demons coming back to haunt him, embodying his struggles in those dark moments.
With every memory, she felt peace creeping into her heart. She understood that love could take many forms, and her father had been fighting for her all along. As the light approached her, she embraced the truth about their bond, knowing that her father had always been there, fighting for her safety.
As their blood mixed on the ground, a haunting silence enveloped the space around them. Jolyne knelt beside her father, heart pounding, a wave of guilt crashing over her. For so long, she had viewed Jotaro as a villain in her life, a distant figure whose expectations felt like chains. But in this moment, as she witnessed the consequences of their battles, she realized the truth: he had always fought for her, even when she couldn't see it.
Jotaro, too, felt the weight of regret pressing down on him. He had always been so focused on protecting Jolyne from the dangers of their world that he had neglected the most important part of being a father—being present in her life. He wished he could turn back time, to have moments of laughter and connection rather than just the silence that had grown between them. He wanted to tell her how proud he was, how much he loved her, but now those words felt trapped in his throat.
As Jotaro rested his eyes, a sense of calm washed over him. It shocked Jolyne, who had never seen her father so vulnerable. "Dad!" she called out, desperation lacing her voice. "Please, don’t leave me!" But there was no reply, only the echo of her own voice bouncing back at her, a chilling reminder of the void that had formed between them over the years.
Memories flooded her mind: the times he had saved her, the moments they had shared, and the countless times she had wished for a different kind of relationship. She reached out, her hand trembling, hoping to grasp his. "Please, just wake up," she pleaded, tears streaming down her face. But Jotaro remained still, his expression peaceful, as if he had finally found rest.
In that moment, Jolyne's heart shattered. The realization hit her like a tidal wave—she was losing him. The man who had fought against impossible odds, the man she had always seen as strong and invincible, was slipping away from her grasp. "I’m sorry, Dad," she whispered, her voice cracking. "I should have understood. I should have been there for you too."
As she reached for his hand, she felt a coldness starting to creep into her own body. The warmth of life began to fade, and she realized the gravity of her situation. It was as if the universe was aligning their fates, bringing them closer even in death. "I don’t want to be alone," she thought, her heart aching with the weight of their shared regrets.
With a final, desperate grasp, Jolyne held onto Jotaro’s hand, feeling the life slipping away from both of them. In that moment, she understood the depth of love and loss, the pain of unspoken words, and the bond that transcended even death. As darkness enveloped her, she closed her eyes, feeling a sense of peace wash over her, knowing she would never truly be alone again. In their final moments, they were together, two souls intertwined, leaving the world behind as they embraced the unknown.
