Work Text:

I love strawberry tarts. At first this fascination with the sweet treat came from me just loving strawberries in general, but it grew. They’re so…rich in flavor!

I love baking them too. And as one of my friends' birthdays approached, I decided it would be a perfect gift.

So I went to the kitchen of our dorm, and got out all the ingredients to make said sweet. I worked hard to make sure that perfection is achieved, since it was going to be a gift.

The birthday party was starting in a couple of hours, so if i messed up this first try, it would be game over. Thankfully, I didn’t mess up! Not once! It surprisingly came out better than any other time I baked a strawberry tart.

I carefully sealed it in a container, so I could actually give the treat to the birthday person. And with that, it was time to get ready for the party.

Before I walked out of the door, I made sure to grab the gift bag I had set up a couple of days in advance.

I walked out to the courtyard of the dorm, where nearly every Heartslabyul student held their birthdays, and occasionally, unbirthday parties.

I could already hear the soft music coming from the courtyard, and when I walked in, I was greeted by the birthday boy.

“Ah, Clementine!” Riddle Rosehearts, the Housewarden of Heartslabyul, greeted me with open arms. We had been friends since our first year at Night Raven College.

He was wearing a white suit with a red sash that read “birthday boy” on it. Normally he wouldn’t wear something like that, but Trey–a childhood friend of his–somehow got him to agree. “I’m so glad you could make it.”

I wrapped my arms around him, and he did the same around me. “It was no problem, I love birthday parties almost as much as I love UN-birthday parties.” I smile widely and chuckle.

“Anyways, where are my manners?” I held out the plastic container with the strawberry tart inside. “Happy birthday, Riddle.”

He practically beamed in that moment, almost instantly taking the container. “Is this what I think it is?!”

I nodded. “Well, what do you think it is?” I decided to tease him a bit.

I knew what he thought it was, and why wouldn’t he? Riddle knows that we have the same favorite food, because of those icebreakers from freshman year. Of course I would make him that for his birthday.

He smiled wider, if that was even possible. “Thank you, Clementine. I’ll be sure to savor every bite.”

With that, the party went on, as a bunch of NRC students celebrated our favorite housewarden of Heartslabyul’s very merry birthday.
