Work Text:
"Ohh, so that's why you were acting weird earlier..."
She remembers how he looked at her, and how he got closer. He smiled widely and, his head just some inches away from her, he shouted those words.
"But you can play so many instruments, you're freaking awesome!!!"
She remembers clearly how her heart skipped a beat at those words. She felt her cheeks redden a bit, and opened her mouth in surprise, trying to think of something to say, without success. They stood there just for some seconds, looking at each other. He smiled. Such a sincere and beautiful smile. She knew he really meant those words. And it made her the happiest, to hear him validate her feelings like that. To validate that music is something hero-like. That she had to do that concert with him, Bakugo, Fumikage and Momo. That they would absolutely rock, all together. That this concert would absolutely be a success, that it would ease the heart of the other students of the Academy after everything that had already happened. Koda was then the one who even more convinced her, with his sweet words.
And now, she was there. Sitting in her room. With her guitar in her hands. Trying to compose, and write, the song they were going to sing during the U.A. festival. Jirou struggled a bit with the lyrics. She already had composed a pretty cool instrumental, but she didn't have any inspiration to write the lyrics. She groaned.
"Ugh... What am I supposed to write...? Maybe I should talk about it with the others." She finally sighed, out of solutions.
When, suddenly... She was startled by a noise coming from her door ...
Knock knock.
"Hu? Yes??"
"Jirou?? It's me!!! Can I come in??"
She would recognise that voice anywhere. She smiled a bit, and put her guitar on her bed to get up and open the door.
"Hi, Kaminari !"
"Hellooo !!! Sooo, how are you doing with the song ??? I can't wait to start learning playing the guitaaaarrr!!!" He falsely complained. The rock star girl rolled her eyes, her smile still on her lips.
"Kaminari... You've been coming to ask that twice today, it's the third time!! And I already told you it takes time to compose and write, and I'm not done with it!!!"
He giggled a bit. Oh, how much she loved to hear that giggle of his.
"I knoowww, but I'm too impatient!!! Can't I help you at least a bit?? I have nothing else to do..." She laughed as an answer.
"Letting you helping me to write?? Do you want the lyrics to be as "jamming" as you are ?" She teased him, rising an eyebrow. Denki pouted and crossed him arms.
"What is that supposed to mean??!!"
"That those lyrics aren't a joke, Kaminari!"
He looked falsely offended... Well, from the outside, he showed it as a joke, but deep down, he was actually kind of hurt by those words.
"I can take things seriously you know!!!"
"I know..." She smiled and sighed a bit. "That's not what I meant, Jamming-Yay." She took a minute of silence to think, look around her, while Denki was starring at her, confused. Finally, she sighed, and looked away. "Okay... I gotta admit I struggle a bit with the writing of the lyrics. I don't know what to write... What is going to be striking, and represent us, and touch the hearts at the same time. It's the first time I'm really... Writing something to publicly... Sing it... Y'know... It's not like my parents will re-work and sing my texts, like when I was younger... This time, I'm..." She closed her eyes and crossed her arms around her waist. "... Alone. And I'll have to sing what I wrote. And I... I don't want to ruin things, y'know-"
She didn't even know why she confessed of of that all of a sudden to Kaminari... But it felt good to let it out. Especially to the one who motivated her to do all of this. And, as expected, he kept this role.
"C'mon... I know you'll absolutely nail it, Jirou-Jack !! There's absolutely no one better than you in music in the class. Just believe in yourself a bit, y'know ?? At least, I do believe in you!!"
"... Why are you always so nice to me?"
"Hu??"
Jirou gasped. Shit. Did she really say those words out loud?? No, she didn't.... Right...?
"H-hu- Nothing!!! Nothing- I-"
She panicked. A lot. All flustered, she wanted to burry herself under the ground. But...
"Well, because you're one of my dearest friend, and you're really talented!!! And I just believe in all of us !! We'll rock this festival, and show 'em all who we are !! Right, teeh-hee ??"
She looked at him. Once again, he had that smile on his face. A bright, and confident smile. Oh, how much she loved to see him smile. How much she would do anything to protect that smile.
"Kaminari..."
"What?? Don't you think I'm right??" He kindly smiled, tilting his head as he gave his usual thumb up.
... She never thought she would do that.
But her arms moved by themselves. She couldn't control her movements.
She took a step, than another, forward, and slowly opened her arms. When she finally face him, she buried her face in his chest, and gently wrapped her arms around his waist, to tighten him into a well needed hug.
She always struggled to have faith in herself, and to believe in what she was doing. Kaminari was one of the only person who could, in only a few words, erase each doubt she could have ever had, and replace them with a warm and sweet feeling of confidence. He was almost the only one who had such a power over her.
"W-woah- Hey- You okay??" Nervously laughed the blonde, keeping his arms up in surprise.
"Yeah..." She groaned, snuggling against his chest. "Just shut up and accept it. It's not going to happen very often. It's my way of thanking you for being there. That's all."
She heard him giggle. Ugh, it made her heart skip a beat, like each time she heard it. Eventually, she felt one of his hand resting on her head, and the other wrapping itself around her waist. He rested his head against hers, and she heard him sigh, and probably close his eyes to enjoy the hug. She smiled, and decided to do the same.
"Thank you to you too, Jirou." He finally whispered after a few minutes of silence.
"Hu? Why so??"
Kaminari just smiled, and didn't answer. A bit confused, Jirou couldn't find the strength to ask him more questions. So they just decided to stand there, in a very calm and warm silent hug. They both really needed it. Especially from one another.
... And, finally, after a good ten minutes ...
"... So, um, Jirou?"
"Yeah?"
"... Can I help you with the lyrics? Pretty pleaaaaaase??"
She giggled, rolled her eyes, and let go of the hug (she really didn't want to, but unfortunately, she had no choice) to look at him. She smiled widely.
"... Okay, if you want to."
"Yaaaayyy !!" He jumped a bit, smiling even more.
"... You adorable dork." She just whispered (even murmured so that he couldn't hear), before stepping away to let him come into her room so that they could start to work together.
