AVA: Animayhem (Moveset Maker)

Summary:

For the record, I started working on this way before Animation Versus was announced. Also, this was envisioned as a more traditional fighter while AV is more along the lines of a platform fighter, so thankfully there’s not TOO much overlap between them.

An outline of various characters' movesets in a hypothetical 2D fighting game based on Animator VS Animation/Animation VS Minecraft.

Work Text:

1. Alan

Big Body, with the cursor being significantly larger than any of the Sticks. Basic attacks are turning the cursor into a hand and swiping around to slap the opponent silly. Command Grab where the cursor picks up the opponent and drags them around the perimeter of the screen. Draws a giant laser gun that fires powerful energy blasts, but needs a cooldown between each shot. Draws a large circle and sends it rolling across the ground. Types giant, boldface lines of onomatopoeia in the air that send the enemy flying back. These stick around for a while, letting him use Tab to send them shooting forward again multiple times. Right Clicks to create a giant menu box that not only slams into the opponent upon spawning, but can be picked up by the cursor and used as a bludgeoning weapon until it breaks apart after a few hits. Draws a giant wrecking ball and swings it around like a flail. Ultimate is drawing a selection window around the opponent to trap them, then moving said window over to the screen of a second monitor, which has his old AVA3 desktop on it. All of the icons come to life and swarm the enemy. VLC, iTunes, Yahoo, and Internet Explorer lock down their limbs while Chrome, Photoshop, Orbit, Skype, Movie Maker, AIM, Firefox, and Clippy whale on them. Finally, MyComputer summons the Avast! bolts and chest to lock them away.

2. The Chosen One

Basic attacks are flame-enhanced martial arts. Flying dash attacks by propelling himself with fire from his hands. Can surround himself with a blazing aura that burns the enemy if they get too close, and then launch that aura as a fiery projectile. Shoots laser beams from his eyes. Unleashes icy winds from his hands that leave foes helplessly frozen for a brief duration. Creates storm clouds in the air that shoot lightning bolts toward his foe after a delay. Can eat enemy projectiles out of midair and spit them back out later ala Game and Watch’s bucket. If he keeps it in his mouth for long enough, the projectile is enhanced with his fire breath, increasing the original attack’s damage. Ultimate has him take off and start flying rapidly in circles in the center of the screen, creating a tornado. If the enemy can’t escape the twister’s vortex effect, they’re pulled inside and flung about before TCO freezes them into a massive iceberg. He then flies up high, charges his fist with so much energy that his whole outline glows white, and punches down into the frozen prison. The entire structure shatters and explodes, sending out a shockwave of golden light across the entire screen that’s so intense the game briefly overloads and displays a blue screen of death.

3. The Dark Lord

Basic attacks are dual Vira-Blade slashes, the weapons splitting apart into even more blades as he slashes. Similar to Carmine from Under Night In-Birth, several of his attacks leave behind puddles of black and red sludge on the ground. When he uses particular specials in close vicinity to these puddles, they transform into different shaped arrays of piercing spikes for some additional impaling damage before dissolving. Has the same flying fire dash attacks as TCO. Also has a variation on his eye beams, but while his deal more damage, they’re also less stable and therefore much less easy to aim properly. Stomps the ground to create a shockwave, with charging increasing the damage and range of the chunks of earth that spring up in a forward line along the pulse’s path. Creates ViraBot spikes that fly out like javelins, infecting his foe with a stackable damage over time effect on each hit. Throws fireballs, with charging increasing the size and power of the orbs’ explosive impacts. Ultimate has him fly up into the air. The opponent moves to go after him, but notices patches of disintegrating red data appearing all over the ground around them. A fleet of ViraBots suddenly fly out of the tunnels they’ve burrowed and mob the enemy, biting them, jabbing them with their blades, and encasing them in webbing. The foe manages to look back up at TDL, only to see he’s been charging a gigantic energy orb while they’ve been occupied by the swarm. He casually drops the death ball, which detonates spectacularly, taking out the Bots along with his opponent.

4. The Second Coming

Basic attacks are giant hammer smashes. Uses the Pencil to draw various animal helpers: woodpeckers swoop upwards for an anti-air peck attack, rhinos trample over the enemy to knock them prone, eels lash out with electrified tails that stun the foe for a few seconds, and sharks leap up in an arc and bite down. Calls in The Warden to unleash a Sonic Boom. Command Grab where he draws a giant hand to squeeze and crush the enemy. Fires the Function Gun, sending diagonal columns of energy sweeping across the ground. Creates a trail of magnetic rings in the air, then leaps up and clings to a rocket (a cowboy hat suddenly appearing on his head as he does) as it’s propelled at high speeds through said rings. Charging increases the number of rings in the trail, and by extension the distance covered and damage dealt by the charge. Throws a gold dodecahedron at the opponent, which expands on contact to trap them inside of an infinite, kaleidoscopic, dragon-curve-emitting prison of other versions of themselves, leaving them helpless and vulnerable for a short time. Ultimate is a counter and only usable when TSC is at or below half health. When activated, TSC completely no-sells the attack before glaring at the opponent with glowing green eyes. Tapping into his full potential, he lays into them with a lightning-fast flurry of blows, all enhanced with green energy. He then kicks them into the sky, flies up after them, and uses his emerald eye beams to launch them into a distant mountain, which explodes.

5. Red

Basic attacks are diamond sword slashes. Overhead mace slam. Calls out three Mobs in a set order ala Ginyu in DBFZ: Endie teleports directly behind the enemy for a double axe handle slam, Spider shoots web balls at a downward diagonal angle that slow the enemy on a direct hit and create slowing cobwebs wherever they land if not, and Skellington rapid-fires arrows straight ahead. Command Grab where he ties a bundle of chickens to the opponent, which all fly straight up before the lead breaks and his foe comes falling back down. Uses his yellow bandanna like Scorpion’s spear to yank the enemy in close. Cake toss projectile. Places down a hive that bursts into a swarm of angry bees (or, on rare occasions, a single exploding Bee-Creeper Hybrid) if the enemy hits it. Ultimate is bringing out Reuben and feeding him a massive pile of random potions. With the pig’s power unleashed, the two charge toward the opponent and attempt to uppercut them into the air. If this lands, the two lay into their foe with a synchronized high-speed beatdown from all sides, ending with a simultaneous massive punch that sends the opponent hurtling into the distance like Team Rocket.

6. Blue

Basic attacks use a bow, both firing arrows from range and whacking people with it up-close. Tosses lit TNT blocks in lobbing arcs, resulting in an explosion after a short delay. Holds up a shield to deflect incoming projectiles. Can combine these two abilities together to explosively propel himself on his shield across the entire stage. Flings green screen explosion clips at the ground, which function like land mines. Drinks an Invisibility Potion to disappear for a short time. Plants a seed trap that he can apply Bone Meal to at a later time, causing it to grow into a massive tree pillar that damages the opponent and sends them flying up if they’re too close. Produces one of three potions at random: Strength (damage), Swiftness (movement speed/jump height), and Resistance (defense). He can store one potion at a time, visible under his health bar, and drink it to grant himself its temporary buff. Making a new potion while one is already in storage overwrites his current one. Ultimate is basically Kirby’s Final Smash from SSB Brawl, but the only ingredient other than the opponent going into his giant cauldron is Nether Wart. Aside from the immediate damage of being lightly boiled and stirred around with his shovel spoon, the enemy is subjected to a severe and lengthy damage over time effect thanks to the noxious fungus they were cooked with.

7. Yellow

Basic attacks are diamond pickaxe slams. Winds up a piston-equipped punch that sends the enemy flying back. Sets down a Dispenser that automatically shoots out a steady stream of low-damage but high-knockback snowball projectiles for a short time. Lays down a track of powered rails along the ground before sending a minecart flying forward on it, with charging increasing the length of the rail line. Powerful but imprecise AOE grenade launcher shots. Overhead smash with the Premiere Ripple Edit spike hammer. Calls the Titan Ravager to slam down its giant leg a set distance in front of him. Ultimate is an Install, having him bring out the Command Block Staff for a while. Wielding its powers, he can avoid incoming attacks by substituting himself with an Armor Stand at the last second, call down fireballs from the sky, create impenetrable Barrier Block walls, briefly summon Iron Golems to deliver a wicked sucker punch, and paralyze the opponent before flinging their helpless body around.

8. Green

Basic attacks use a Note Block guitar, both for mid-range thrusting jabs, wielding it like a staff, and launching music note pattern projectiles. Uses a fishing rod to drag the opponent around and swing from the ceiling like Spider-Man. Trident spiral dash ala Psycho Crusher. Slime projectiles that bounce and ricochet unpredictably. Flurry of Razor tool slices. Can briefly enter a stance where he can’t deal any damage, but automatically dodges all incoming attacks by gracefully dancing around the foe’s strikes. Mixes up opponents with two very similar-looking attacks where he wields a spear made out of sugarcane - one a relatively slow but strong spinning strike, and the other a sudden lunging stab - depending on the input. Ultimate is whipping out the Note Block Staff and playing a song, in the process creating a long, winding music staff that wraps around the opponent like a snake to immobilize them. After sending arrangements of notes along the staff to impact and damage his helpless opponent, he then levels the Staff at them and unleashes a symphonic blast like the one at the climax of Note Block Concert, overwhelming his foe with waves of pure orchestral energy.

9. Herobrine

Basic attacks are rapid punches and kicks that utilize his bizarre, ghostly form. Command Grab where he flies into the enemy, their body writhing and thrashing and contorting as he briefly possesses them before exiting their body once more. Creates water at the ends of his hands, allowing him to nullify any incoming fire- or explosion-based attacks by punching them. Generates a cluster of random supplies and furniture from his school, then telekinetically throws it out as an unpredictable scatter shot attack. Causes pillars of cobblestone to burst up from out of the ground to try and knock the opponent into the air. Spawns Steve clones to whip around in Pikmin-like chains or just directly fling as projectiles. Counter where he suddenly teleports behind the enemy right before they hit him and punches them in the back of the head. Ultimate has him quickly form the massive obsidian MegaStick around his body, which relentlessly stomps and punches and picks up and slams the enemy until they’re left in a crater.

10. Purple

Basic attacks are tackles, punches, and kicks. Cobblestone scepter slams. Boomerang crown throw ala K. Rool. Flying elytra charge, either using a rocket to boost himself straight ahead or letting the wind take him in a more unpredictable swooping spiral. Launches clusters of fireworks as semi-homing projectiles. Plants a beacon that, until destroyed, slowly sends out a procession of axe-wielding Piglin Brutes that walk across the screen, slashing the enemy if they get in their way. Belts out a huge burst of purple music notes that linger above his head in a damaging anti-air cloud. Ultimate is leaping out of the confines of the game to start messing with his own character data in the files. When he returns, despite his foe’s efforts, he keeps effortlessly phasing through all of their attacks. He caps off his tampering by summoning a glitched-out Baron Nashor, which goes on a rampage and steamrolls the opponent.

11. Orb

Takes the form of Yellow’s possessed body. In-universe this would make any fights against Yellow very strange, but fighting games do mirror matches all the time, so it’s fine. Basic attacks are Lucky Block Staff swings. Creates a Lucky Block, which, after taking any damage, produces one of several possible results at random - a TNT block that explodes in a large AOE after a brief delay, a Mooshroom that stampedes in one direction across the stage, a zombie in diamond armor that swings its sword around itself in the short time it has before it fully burns to death in the light, an anvil that falls down onto the opponent’s current location, or a golden apple that restores a small amount of health to the first character to touch it. Cooldown between each one to prevent pure chaos spamming. Anti-air soaring upward charge on its feathery wings. Command grab where the opponent briefly gets possessed and the Orb forces them to punch themselves in the face. Shoots a living Creeper as an explosive projectile. Fires out a spreadshot of gold bars. Spawns a sword made of fruit for an overhead chop. Ultimate is opening a Lucky Block to drag itself and the opponent into the Lucky Block Dimension, where it assumes its ever-shifting block mass form, slams into the enemy a few times, and spawns a whole array of floating Staffs to blast its foe with their various effects all at once.

12. Witch

Basic attacks are dual sword slashes. Lobs out a spread of three damaging potions. Has her Awakened brewing stand fling one of three random debuff potions, which applies Weakness (reduced damage), Slowness (reduced movement/attack speed), or Wither (reduced defense) on contact for a short time. Only one such debuff can be applied at a time. Tosses a portal potion onto the ground and leaps into it, reemerging with an uppercut axe slash from a matching portal on the ground beneath her foe’s feet a few seconds later. Throws out a potion which, on hit, makes the enemy hallucinate being trapped in a blank white void, unable to see what’s actually going on in the fight and forcing them to lash out blindly for the duration. Command Grab has her splash a transformation potion onto the enemy, briefly turning them into a helpless block (the exact type of block varying for each character) that can do nothing but hop away from her until it wears off. Uses flint and steel to set a portion of the ground on fire, damaging whoever steps onto it. Ultimate is drinking a transformation potion which turns her into a perfect copy of her opponent for a long while, granting her access to all of their abilities. This does not automatically change her current health to match theirs, nullify any active debuffs on her, or grant her any buffs currently applied to them.

13. King Orange

Unlockable final boss of Arcade Mode. Basic attacks are swinging the Game Icon Staff around, each movement creating block structures from thin air which smash into the opponent before disappearing. Creates electrified walls that zap the opponent on contact. Unleashes white cones of destructive energy. Generates a massive swarm of arrows overhead that he can bring down in a focused stream of projectiles or all at once as a rain of damage that’s wider-reaching but easier to block. Sets up linked pairs of Nether Portals, where attacking into one results in the move coming out of the other. Spawns a miniature black hole that drags not only the enemy, but all projectiles and items spawned by them towards it. Creates gigantic Netherite weapons to swing around and bring crashing down. Ultimate is creating a pair of shadowy duplicates of his foe that rush forward and attack the original. While they’re locked in a stalemate, each attack being perfectly matched and canceled out, he fuses the second game icon to his staff, allowing him to unleash a gargantuan energy beam that blasts away the enemy and their dark doubles. In the aftermath of the beam, the enemy’s body begins to glitch out, debuffing their attack damage for a while.

14. Agent

Basic attacks are Line Tool quarterstaff smacks. Can temporarily increase the length and thickness of said Line to buff its damage and reach. Lasso tool drags opponent in close on hit. Can also use the lasso as a Command Grab, flinging his foe around and slamming them into the ground. Fires homing stun gun shots using the Zoom tool. Uses the Rectangle Tool to interrupt his foe’s combo by creating a large square barrier in their way, deflecting and parrying the opponent’s attack. Command Grab where he uses the Free Transform tool to draw a box around his foe, then grabs a corner and spins it, leaving them rotating helplessly for a while before he finally kicks them out of it. Ultimate is throwing out a Pause symbol projectile. If it lands, the enemy is completely frozen in place, allowing him to absolutely whale on them with a brutal series of punches and kicks. He then releases the pause, causing his flurry of blows to impact all at once.

15. Hazard

Basic attacks are odd unarmed strikes with his stilted movements. Puppet Fighter, simultaneously controlling a second female hazard sign figure who wields a briefcase as a bludgeoning weapon. Most specials can be used by either one of them, depending on the input. Flings a variety of arrow signs as projectiles, with wildly varying flight paths depending on the shape of the arrow. Pulls out a random warning sign for an AOE burst of elemental damage that varies depending on the hazard depicted on the sign - electricity (which briefly stuns the foe), poison (which deals damage over time), or fire (which deals the most damage but has no other effect). Hazard charges forward on a bicycle to ram into his foe. Uses a shovel to dig up a huge mound of dirt beneath the opponent, flinging them up into the air. Pulls out a shotgun for a devastating, high-knockback but close-range blast. Counter where a giant circle with a slash through it appears around his body, interrupting the enemy’s attack and letting him blast them away with a stream of forks and knives. Ultimate is creating a nuclear warning sign, which immediately transforms into a gigantic nuclear bomb that he lobs onto his opponent. As they’re pinned beneath the giant warhead, he makes a speedy getaway on his hoverbike, looking back to admire the massive mushroom cloud left in his wake.

16. Ballista

Basic attacks are punches and headbutt slams. Furious punch barrage that can end with either an uppercut into the air or a slam down into the ground depending on the input. Ricocheting shots from his dual akimbo pistols. Activates “Sprint Mode” to increase his movement and basic attack speed for a short time. Flurry of mid-range giant sword slashes while sprouting a majestic flowing cape. With an additional optional input, the sword can be thrown at the opponent mid-combo, the weapon branching out into spikes and exploding after a brief delay. Dashing shoulder charge while surrounded by an aura of energy. Flings out clusters of small blades that embed themselves in the arena’s walls, floor, and/or ceiling for a short duration, dealing additional damage to the enemy on contact if Ballista manages to knock them into the makeshift caltrops. Ultimate is sprouting a massive bundle of guns and explosive weaponry from his head turret and unloading them all at once, producing a near-unavoidable barrage of bullets, missiles, lasers, and bombs in front of him.

17. Primal

Stance Fighter, able to swap between his range-focused, tool-using normal self and his bigger, muscled-up Buff Form that prefers to get in close. In his default stance, his basic attacks are mid-range spear stabs. Bow and arrow projectiles. Chucks smaller spears that briefly pin the opponent in place on hit. Sends tendrils of his hair across a segment of the ground or ceiling, spreading across the surface like roots. For a long duration, if the opponent gets too close to that area, a cluster of tendrils juts up or down to stab them. In Buff Form, his basic attacks become large claw swipes. Winds up a devastating punch ala Donkey Kong. Command Grab where he raises his foe up over his head and repeatedly slams them down into the ground. Rams into the opponent by charging at them on all fours with super armor. Ultimate is his default form deploying the ultimate Stone Age weapon - fire. By banging rocks together, he ignites a cluster of arrows before sending them streaking at the opponent. The sparks flying off of the blazing impacts set the area around them ablaze, trapping them in a ring of fire, perfect for his Buff Form to leap into with a dual overhead slam. He then goes full Hulk, picking up the opponent by the legs and smashing them down into the burning ground over and over until he extinguishes the inferno with their flailing body.

18. victim

Basic attacks use a whip. Uses a blue Eyedropper to create a pool of water on the ground that slips up the enemy if they step on it. Reflects ranged attacks by Selecting them and sending them straight back to sender. Can summon and send forth one of four short-lived clones of himself, all of which wield different weapons: one slams down a hammer, one lashes out with a chain, one slices with a sword, and the last hurls an oversized shuriken. Command Grab where he straps a memory visor to the opponent’s face, stunning them for a brief duration as they’re overwhelmed by a flood of their replayed memories. Crafts a miniature rocket that flies around the arena unpredictably and explodes on contact. Has an offscreen Rocket clone employee try to drop a giant box onto his foe’s head via precariously swinging crane arm, dealing a lot of damage on hit but being so obviously telegraphed that the enemy is practically guaranteed to dodge if not occupied by additional pressure. Ultimate is entering his H4CK3R form. During this transformation, his basic attacks are replaced with flying punches and beams and blasts that harness blue lightning; his speed, damage, and defense are all buffed; and he replaces his usual suite of special moves with a few new ones. Command grab that Renames his foe’s Symbol to NO ONE, temporarily restricting them to only using basic attacks. Generates flying arsenals of swords, hammers, and shurikens to throw en masse from any direction. Charges up with a hit of super armor before unleashing a massive array of arcing lightning bolts around himself, with the damage and reach of said bolts increasing the more time he spends charging. At maximum charge, this attack damages the files and assets of the game, leaving backgrounds and UI elements briefly flickering.

19. Green Screen

Basic attacks are strange, jerky strikes with its glitchy body. Grows its screen head, allowing clips of Greenzilla to deliver giant-sized punches. Places the Mosaic effect over its body to buff its basic attack damage for a duration. Various flying spin kick attacks with the Rotation, Horizontal Flip, and Vertical Flip effects. Crops itself to delete its top or bottom half. While operating with only half of its body, it can’t use any moves that would require the missing portions, but it’s also completely immune to any attacks that would hit those areas. Uses Position to slide at high speeds across the ground or through the air, granting normally short-range attacks an unexpected amount of reach. Posterize Time effect allows it to perceive and react in slow motion for a few seconds. Ultimate is an Install, merging itself with other deleted videos to transform into its huge, bestial final form. In this mode, it gains super armor and a variety of new moves. It can emit pulses of lightning around itself, create glitchy electrical barriers, pounce with leaping slams, and use Command Grabs to pick up the enemy and ram them into the walls/ceiling/floor of the arena.
