Bakugou Katsuki and Kirishima Eijirou have been dating for 8 months now, but it feels like forever for someone that moves as fast as Katsuki does.
Many people like to assume that Katsuki is the black cat type. Quiet, and moving at a slower pace than most people. In reality, he’s more like a black dog. He moves quite fast, always jumping to hold someone’s hand or always the first one to start asking to borrow the other’s clothes. Because… why would you go slow, y’know? You only have so little time on this planet to let the ones you love know that you love and care for them, so why spend a big chunk of that time dancing around whether you should kiss the literal love of your life or not.
But, apparently, Eijirou does not think the same way, because he’s practically been tangoing around saying the big three words for the past two months. Everytime Katsuki can basically feel the words pressing at Eijirou’s lips, it’s like he swallows them back down or something! And Katsuki would say them first, but he just… can’t. He can’t because what if he’s wrong? What if he says it and Eijirou doesn’t actually feel the same? What if he gets turned down? That would just be embarrassing. Downright embarrassing. But right now…
Right now, it’s just so hard to resist it. He feels like he has to say it. It feels so nice out, the cold breeze of the spring night gently brushing against their backs as they look out at the stars (Kiri's idea, not his). It feels even nicer with Eijirou right next to him, yapping on and on about a variety. Katsuki doesn’t even know what he’s talking about anymore. He was listening at first (if you don’t believe him, at the time, Eijirou was going on about vintage pro-hero figurines and their correlations with old Insane Clown Posse CDs), but it’s just so hard to focus now. The overwhelming urge to go ahead and ruin it all is tugging on his heart strings and making his throat dry. It’s even worse that Eijirou is so close to him, the faint smell of his stupid cologne and hair gel is clogging Katsuki’s arteries with a very familiar sweet feeling. He’s so sickeningly in love that it’s shameful, and it’s starting to pile up inside of him to the point where he can’t even perceive correctly. Everything reminds him of Eijirou so badly that he swears the stars are the same shade of red as Eiji’s shitty hair. It all just feels so right. It all feels so perfect to the point where Katsuki can’t say it. He can’t risking ruining this, can’t risk upsetting Eijirou. But, God, all of the feelings inside of him are going to make him sick if they don’t make their way out of him soon.
He wants them out. He needs them out. He wants so badly to just scream it from the rooftops, or on a stage in front of every single student at UA. Hell, he’s willing to serenade this man if that’s what it takes to get an “I love you” to come from Eijirou’s mouth and land straight on his heart. It’s just so hard to say anything about how he feels when this idiot can’t for the life of him just see that he’s the only one with a room key to Katsuki’s romantic suite of a heart.
He needs to stop. This is cowardly, and he is not a coward. Even Izuku would laugh at how foolish he’s being right now. Well… that’s not true, but still! He just needs to say it.
“Ei,” He croaks out, cutting Eijirou off in the middle of whatever he was talking.
Eijirou turns to him, this sweet look in his eyes. “Hm?” He hums, tilting his head and smiling softly.
Oh, Katsuki is going to be sick.
“I- Uhm—” He’s sweating. Alot. More than usual. And that’s alot for someone who sweats literal gallons every single day. Fuck this. “I have to piss.”
Eijirou cracks up, “Then go piss, Kats, no one’s forcing you to stay.”
“Right— Uhm—” He quickly rushes back into his dorm and into his bathroom.
How did he fuck up that badly?
He quickly shoves his hands into his pockets and grabs his phone. He rushes to hit the call button to call his best friend, Kyouka Jirou, and when she picks up… it isn’t even her?!
“Yello!! It’s Mina, what’s up?” The cheerful girl on the other end greets.
Katsuki groans. “Where’s Kyouka?”
“She’s uh— in the restroom! What’s wrong?” Mina hums.
He wants to hang up so badly, but who else can he call? All men in the class are off the table because they talk too much and don’t know how to successfully woo anyone. He would call Uraraka, but she would probably end up telling Eijirou everything while they’re working out together. He isn’t close enough to Yaomomo or Hagakure to confide in them about his hell of a love life, let alone actually have their numbers. And he and Tsuyu still have beef from their first year. So… Mina it is.
“I wanted to tell shitty hair that I love him but I ended up telling him that I had to piss instead,” He blurts out. It’s silence for a second, but then he hears laughing, and it’s not Mina’s laugh. It’s Jirou! She was there the whole time and just didn’t say anything— Whatever. He can’t worry about something like that right now. “Stop laughing, tell me what to do!”
Jirou clears her throat. “Just… do it?” She says. “I don’t know, just say it. You know Red, he’s not going to make a fool out of you or something. He’s not like that.”
“I’m not— I’m not worried about that, idiot. I’m worried about him… not feeling it.”
“Then why did you call me? I’m not gonna miraculously make him fall in love with you. You'll be alright, Eijirou is head over heels for you anyway. But, like... go to talk this out with him, not me, dumbass.”
Katsuki pulls the phone from his ear and hangs up, frustrated. Thanks for absolutely nothing, Kyouka. But… she’s right. He just needs to do it. Don’t think, just do it. He’ll be alright. He just needs to do it.
He washes his hands, he can at least make it look like he wasn’t lying. Plus, he needs to get all of the nitro-sweat off of his hands. He slowly exits the restroom, going back out onto the balcony and leaning against the railing with Eijirou. He’ll be alright. He just… he needed to hear someone else tell him that to be able to believe it, or something other sappy shit like that. He takes a deep breath.
“Why’d it take you six minutes to piss, bro? Do you have a UTI or something?” Eijirou laughs.
Katsuki makes a weird face. “Don’t ask me about my piss, Ei— And don’t you dare call me bro, we’ve made out before on this very balcony.”
He hesitates.
“Hey, can we talk about something?” He says quietly. “And don’t make a big deal out of it.”
Eijirou rolls his eyes, “I make a big deal out of everything, so no promises.”
He's going to die. This was not at all how Katsuki was imaging it would happen, this is is so not romantic. Be calm, Katsuki, be calm. “Just— Don’t make a big deal out of it if you don’t— like— reciprocate.”
“Got it,” Eiji nods.
Katsuki swallows. Okay, here we go. “So, I, uhm— I really like you, I guess. And since you’re not going to be the one to say it, I thought I would go ahead and get it out of the way or whatever. The entire time we’ve been out here, I’ve been debating on whether or not I should say it because, everything just felt so nice and I didn’t wanna spoil anything. But, like… Your shitty fucking cologne was, like, seeping into my bloodstream or something, and I felt like I was fucking hallucinating because of how badly I wanted to tell you, like I was seeing shit—”
“Dramaticccc~” Eijirou sings. Gosh, Denki must be rubbing off on him.
“Shut the hell up! I can’t focus with you interrupting me, stupid hair!” Katsuki yells, getting a wide smile in response. He has to look away, that damn smile is going to be the death of him. “Anyway. I thought I was fucking hallucinating because the stars started to get red for some reason, I don’t know! But I was scared that you wouldn’t feel the same, so I somehow ended up saying that I had to piss whenever I actually didn’t? And then I went and called Jirou and got laughed at by her and she was fucking useless because all she told me was shit that I already knew— And, now that I think about it, going to the bathroom to call my bestfriend was probably way more embarrassing than being rejected could ever be, but— I—” He swallows dryly, lifting his eyes back up to look at his lover. “I love you, Eijirou. I love you so much, and it’s so humiliating. I feel like such a coward for not being able to say it before now because I’ve been wanting to for so long now! It’s been months and I wanted to tell you so bad, but I was scared that it was going to put you off or that I was moving too fast for you. You don’t have to say it back, I know it’s early—”
Eijirou looks… stunned. God, was this actually a mistake? Was he genuinely stupid enough to believe that this would go well? Katsuki is so fucking stupi—
“Oh, wait, is that all? You think eight months is early? You do you, man, but—” Eijirou asks.
Katsuki puts a scowl on his face. “Fuck you mean, ‘is that all’? And obviously you thought that eight months was too early, because you were the one who kept avoiding it and shit!”
“You were literally just saying that you were the one avoiding it because you were scared. What was I gonna do? Bite you?” Eijirou laughs. He gently places his hand on Katsuki’s face and caresses his scar. “I love you too, Katsu,” He smiles, pressing a small kiss onto his cheek.
“Fucking finally,” Katsuki groans, pulling his boyfriend into a kiss.
