It’s a cold January day in New York, but Henry’s made reservations for him and Alex for Adventure Saturday, so bundle up and leave the house they must.
When the car pulls up outside a building with large windows, Alex squints at it. Seems he forgot his glasses, Henry notes. Good thing he won’t need to see details during today’s adventure.
“Starbucks?” Alex asks doubtfully. “Our adventure is Starbucks?”
“Why do you doubt me?” Henry asks.
“I don’t doubt you–” Alex sputters.
“Trust me.” Henry holds the door open and ushers Alex inside, out of the wind howling around them.
A barista greets them as they approach the counter. “Welcome! Are you here for one of our experiences or just a tasting?”
Henry offers a smile. “Yes, we have a reservation for two. David Fox?”
The barista scans their computer system. “Yes, here you are. The coffee tasting lab followed by the art of the espresso martini?”
“That’s correct,” Henry confirms.
“Wha… baby?” Alex is at a loss for words, truly a rare occurrence.
“Someone will be with you shortly,” the barista assures them. “Have a seat at the counter.”
Henry removes his outerwear, stuffing his gloves in his pocket and unwinding his scarf.
“You brought me to a coffee experience?” Alex asks in wonder, still standing in surprise.
“Did you really think I would bring you to a regular Starbucks for our official adventure?” Henry asks, helping Alex out of his coat.
“Well, no, not really, I just didn’t know this place existed, and…”
“You brought me to that tea place, didn't you?” Henry reminds him, placing a hand on Alex’s lower back. “Besides, I thought some hot coffee tastings could be just the thing for a cold day like today, and we could end the day learning how to make the espresso martinis.”
“You’re the best. I love you.” Alex says, leaning in to kiss Henry quickly.
“I love you too, darling.”
“David?” A new person wearing a green apron comes to greet them. “Ready for your coffee journey?”
“Are we ever,” Alex grins, hopping off his stool.
