Your Blood on my Hands

Summary:

The blood on her hands will forever remain and remind her of the past.

Work Text:

Everything hurts. I can feel the wet crimson coating my hands, it runs between my fingers. The gaping hole through my stomach is the least of my worries, I can heal that, it can be fixed. My head hurts and my vision is obstructed by the blood running down my face. None of that matters, not anymore.

Despite my limited vision I am still agonizingly aware of the bodies that surround me, aware of the one in my arms. The smell of her blood is sickening, it covers almost every inch of her skin. The warmth that she once had has been replaced with something else far more disturbing, her warmth now comes from the cruelness inflicted on her by others, by that man.

The lives of these people, these kids, mean nothing to him. The way he spills their lives across things that should’ve never been painted that red. I shouldn’t be alive right now, anyone else would've been on the ground adding to the picture.

I’m grateful that I’m alive but I wish that it was me who was dead and not the one in my arms. I have done far worse things than the people who surround me and yet only that man and I get to walk away from this alive.

Thirty seven people. Thirty seven people have been ripped away from the possible futures they could’ve had, all because that sick man found entertainment in the pain he caused. All because I couldn’t do more for them. I couldn’t focus properly because of that stupid drug he injected into me and now I’m the only one that gets to leave.

I can’t look down at her face, even if I could I wouldn’t be able to see it anyway. Her body has been ripped apart and violated, it’s been drained of blood and yet she could still bring herself to smile at me before her last bits of life faded away. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry that even in your last moments I couldn't smile back. I’m sorry that I couldn’t bring you all home.
