Summary:

Marina finds out what Pearl does when no one else is around

Notes:

this is a little silly treat for me. i hope you can enjoy it too!

Work Text:

Marina returns home after a long day at the studio. Her keys jingle as she searches for the right one to unlock the door. Finally, she finds the right one and clicks it into place. Music blasts from the other side, making the door vibrate. It only gets louder as she pushes the door open.

Obviously, Pearl is home, and the music is loud enough she doesn't realize Marina is home. Guitar buzzes in the air followed by the crackle of vinyl well used. Pearl sings along at the top of her lungs. The lyrics sound familiar, but it is not anything Pearl wrote. Marina tries to narrow down her options as she walks into the room. Pearl is oblivious as she hops onto the couch to play an air guitar solo. Her arms swing wildly with gusto, her face the same pure bliss as if performing in front of an audience. She has no idea Marina is watching the performance.

Then, Marina hears it. The unmistakable riff ringing in her ears. Her jaw drops to the floor.

"Ooh-wee-hoo, I look just like Buddy Holly
Oh-oh, and you're Mary Tyler Moore
I don't care what they say about us anyway-"
Pearl stops mid sentence when she realizes her wife is staring at her. She drops her imaginary guitar onto the floor with a dramatic lack of a thump.

"It's not what it looks like!" she pleads. Her face turns a bright red.

"It is exactly what it looks like," Marina replies with a huff. She slams the stereo off, and the walls stop vibrating.

"I can explain!"

"Pearl, I would have rather walked in on you with another woman," she says with a dramatic flair, "And instead I see you on the couch listening to- no- enjoying Weezer. I thought I knew you, and now I'm looking at a stranger."

"Marina! Please! It was just one song!" Pearl grovels on her knees, though she is still on the couch so the effect is lost. "I don't like Weezer. You'll never hear another Weezer song in this household again."

Marina's mouth crooks into a sly smile. "I'll forgive you."

Pearl picks her head up, beaming. "Really?"

"On one condition."

She frowns. "What's the condition?"

"Admit you like Weezer."

"I don't!"

"You do!"

"I don't! Babe, don't go telling people I listen to Weezer! You'll make me the laughing stock of Inkopolis! Could you imagine if Callie and Marie found out? I would be cooked!"

"Admit to liking Weezer, and your secret is safe with me," Marina promises.

Pearl blinks at her. She awkwardly scratches her arm. "Are you sure?" she asks meekly.

"Yes." Marina nods.

"I..." Pearl takes a deep breath to ready herself. "... Like Weezer."

"I didn't hear you." Marina leans closer, cupping her hand around her ear. “Could you say that again?”

"Seriously?"

"Yeah. A little louder this time." She can barely contain her laughter.

"I like Weezer!" Pearl nearly yells, stomping her foot to accentuate the statement. She raises her hands in the air. "There! I said it! Are you happy?”

"Ha! I knew it!" Marina bursts out laughing. She tackles Pearl onto the couch in a tight hug.

"I'm confused," says Pearl, brow furrowed. "You're not mad?"

"I'm not mad. I could never be mad at you for being you, baby," Marina assures her with a loving pat on the head. "I'm just teasing you!" She plants a wet kiss on her wife's cheek. Pearl turns red once again.

"Do you wanna hear a secret?" Marina whispers.

"What?"

"I like Weezer too."

Pearl shoves Marina away. "Are you serious?"

"Yeah. They're not my favorite, but I do enjoy listening to them from time to time."

"And you gave me a load of crap for liking Weezer!"

"Because you were getting really into your performance, and it was adorable." Marina pinches her wife's cheeks, much to the other's dismay. "I just had to tease you about it. I don't think you realize how teasable you are.”

"You're a hypocrite." Pearl crosses her arms, feigning anger.

"Will you ever forgive me?" Marina flutters her eyelashes.

"Maybe."

"Name your price. I'll do anything."

"Anything?" Pearl scratches her chin. "I think I require a thousand apology kisses."

"A thousand?" Marina gawks. "We'll be here all night."

"Did you have any other plans?"

"Spend the night with you."

"Then, you better start kissing me." Pearl lifts her chin expectantly. She taps her cheek.

Marina pulls her close and kisses her on the lips instead. Pearl leans in, not wanting to part, but Marina separates from her for just a moment. "That's one. Don't lose count."

"I wouldn't dream of it," Pearl says.

They crash onto the couch, tangled in each other's arms. Marina kisses Pearl all over. They quickly lose count, but neither minds.
