Work Text:
Tonight, she woke up screaming. She had a dream about the time Esmé threw her and her siblings down an elevator shaft. Except this time, there was no net to catch them. She was falling for what felt like an eternity, and right when she was about to hit the ground, she was awoken.
Her boyfriend, Quigley, was shaking her awake. The room would’ve been pitch black if it weren’t for the lamp on the nightstand, which had already been turned on. The light from the lamp was reflecting on his face, and she could see his worried expression. “Another bad dream?” Quigley asked, and she could hear the worry in his tone of voice. "Yes,” Violet replied hoarsely. “I’m so sorry for waking you up, Quigley." Violet added. Her throat still felt sore. Had she been screaming in her sleep?
“Don’t apologize what you went through was really traumatic." Quigley said his worried expression was still evident on his face. “Do you want to talk about it, my love?” Quigley asked as he stared into her deep blue eyes, which at the moment were filled with fear. “No." she replied softly. “Just hold me.” “Please," she added a few seconds later. “Of course." Quigley said, pulling her into his chest.
For three whole years, Violet had been protecting Sunny and Klaus, so it was nice to feel like she was being protected for a change. Quigley was stroking her hair and rubbing her back when he felt her start to hyperventilate and cry. She tried to hold it in when she felt her eyes swell with tears, but eventually she couldn’t and let it all out.
At first, it was just a couple tears and sniffles, but soon she was sobbing uncontrollably on Quigley’s chest.
Quigley felt his heart break at the sight of his girlfriend, a sobbing mess. His grip around her tightened, and he started pressing kisses into her hair and cheeks in an attempt to calm her down. "Shhh, it’s ok, my love, you're safe.” “I’ve got you.” “I won’t let anyone hurt you,” Quigley started whispering into her hair, hoping it would get her to calm down, as it broke his heart to see her in such distress.
Violet hated crying in front of people it made her feel weak. For some reason, she never felt weak when, in his presence she felt understood.
Quigley whispering sweet nothings eventually and listening to his heart beat in his chest eventually got her to stop crying. Soon it was just silence, but it didn’t feel awkward it felt comforting.
For years, she could never fall asleep after nightmares. She usually just got up and checked on Sunny and Klaus. After that, she just laid on her bed, tossing and turning, not wanting to fall asleep. After finding Quigley again and getting with him, she was always able to fall asleep after her nightmares but always felt anxious. For the first time ever, she felt herself drifting off, didn’t panic, and didn’t feel the need to call Klaus and ask him about Sunny. She let herself fall back asleep, knowing that she was safe in his arms.
Quigley was lost in thought when suddenly he heard her snoring lightly. She looked absolutely gorgeous all the time, even while sleeping he thought briefly before kissing her forehead and drifting back to sleep with her.
