Work Text:
Héctor flung himself onto one of the couches dejectedly.
Héctor had really only asked Alice to dance with him but instead of dancing with his friend, he ended up with Mrs. Everheart. He had to spend what felt like hours dancing with his boss, who seemingly never danced once in her life. Having to endure awkward questions from his coworkers was one thing, but from his own boss whom he was forced to dance with or else lose his job? Actual torture.
He really shouldn’t have come to this party in the first place. Héctor knew it was a bad idea(he wasn’t really into parties like people expected him to) but he just had to because, well, “Everyone would be there!”
Everyone came alright but here he was sitting all alone with the one person who he could have a normal conversation with having been gone for quite a while. Que mierda de verdad.
“Hey. You alright?”
His eyes slowly looked at the direction that calm voice and tobacco smoke was coming from. He wasn’t at all shocked when he saw Theo looming over him, cigarette firmly in between his fingers.
“No,” he replied plainly.
Theo chuckled,”I thought so. May I sit next to you?”
“I don’t own the couch,” he wouldn’t usually be so rude but he didn’t have the energy to be overly nice.
Theo chuckled once again as he sat down next to Héctor. He seemingly took another inhale of his cigarette as Héctor got a whiff of that awful smoke. For a brief moment, they were just sitting next to each other in silence.
“So, how bad was she?” asked Theo, Héctor wasn’t sure whether or not the question was genuine or one made to poke fun at him.
“Awful,” he groaned, putting his hands over his face, “she kept trying to lead even though she couldn’t dance at all. And she also kept asking me weird questions…”
“What kind?”
Héctor let out a whimper. He really didn’t want to remember their “lovely” conversation.
“Mm, forget what I just asked,” he added, probably noting how uncomfortable Héctor became being asked that question.
They went for another while in silence. He didn’t mind it much. He wasn’t really good at keeping up with conversation. Maybe good at starting but never continuing. It was almost nice sitting next to Theo.
Theo then put out his cigarette on an ashtray that was apparently next to the couch. He stood up, making Héctor think he was gonna leave.
“You look troubled. Maybe I can do something to help?” he said as he extended his hand towards him.
Héctor was taken aback. Did he really just quote him towards himself?
“What,” a nervous laugh coming out of him by accident.
“I’m asking you to dance,” he replied, almost disappointed that he didn’t get it immediately, “It just… seems like you need one.”
Héctor thought for a bit. He could just say no as he was tired. At the same time however, he couldn’t help but want to have at least one proper dance before the party ends.
“Ok, but I’ll lead.”
Theo chuckled again, “Of course.”
Héctor took his hand and led them both to the dance floor.
Theo wasn't bad at all at dancing. They never really talked much at work and he never would have guessed how funny Theo could be.
So they had spent the entire rest of the party being at each other’s side, dancing and laughing.
Overall, not a bad way to end the night.
