Work Text:

Deep in the forest a beast roamed the woods searching for foods to devour. Many feared these forests for there was a blond wolf with large teeth. Its aggression and clear confidence has made no one dare enter these forests. It seemed to jeer at every kill and every hunter that has barely. Trembling with scars on their body knowing they only lived as examples not kindness yet despite this there was a new intruder dressed in red in this forest.

This is the big bad wolf of fables. Fur of gold with eyes red taller than most adult men stalked these woods. If he pulls his jaw around this stranger's head he can devour the stranger in half. The arrogance or idiocy made him almost want to laugh. The only interesting quality of the figure was those beautiful green eyes that glance around the woods. It would almost be a pity but the wolf won’t make an exception.

An idiot being lost will not magically make the wolf suddenly gain compassion for a stranger. Especially not when is so hungry at this moment as there has been no game in this forest and he has been too stubborn to leave. This was his forest and the wolf would rather die then leave and lose it to the humans to do with as they want. Even if it meant continuing his lonely existence this is the hubris he won’t give up on.

Gliding across the leaves as he stalks the unknown figure stalks the human waiting to see if maybe had missed any humans. There was only silence as he stalked the young stranger with green eyes. Musing about the idea of playing with his food and planning how to chase him deeper into the forest before taking the kill. Its sharp teeth began to show as it bares them in anticipation for the kill.

Yet the wolf of fables was unaware of the knife hiding in the red cloak nor the smirk that his would-be victim was hiding under that red hood. As it was more than aware of the wolf that thinks it was the predator in this game.

The large wolf was confident it could handle anything as it emerged from the shadow coming up to the stranger in red eyes. Able to catch sight of those beautiful green eyes thinking of how in moments will look at him in terror. Just like in the fable this wolf would speak with the tongue of a trickster but the only games it will play will not be the one it wishes to place.

“What is a nobody like you doing out here? Are you lost?” Bakugou jeered with amusement. This large wolf lowers its head so that it can be face to face with the small human able to get a good look at the young man’s face. Enticing it to come just a bit closer, “I would be more than willing to help fix that.”

A lie. But he just wants a bite before giving chase, able to see those lovely eyes widen before turning to terror. To realize that he was now at the mercy as the wolf for even daring to come into this forest. The blond wolf opens it maw about ready to bite down on the stranger- Only to freeze as a burning pain suddenly erupts from its throat.

Red eyes stared wide-eyed before was on the floor as was thrown down with strength it never felt before. The pain and shock as it began to bleed out didn’t allow him to move as his eyes stared up at beautiful green eyes that were staring down with something like pity. Blood had splashed on the stranger's face as kneels down besides the wolf and raises the bloody knife.

At least it was quick.

The town was in celebration. As the terror of the beast was gone they no longer had to tread carefully. But the only one not in celebration is the one who committed the deed as they sit in the bar waiting for the festivities to end. Refusing to join it.

“I can’t believe you actually killed the Beast of the Woods alone,” a blond haired man, Yagi, his mentor, said. “But that was dangerous! I told you to wait for a plan, Izuku!”

The boy who was once in red, Izuku, now wears the blond wolf as his coat as it covers his body keeping him warm. Leaning back as it has replaced his once red coat. His hand moves to a gentle brush against the soft fur as he thinks about the encounter. How close to the wolves maw he had been as he asked him to come closer. Looking down on him as simply something to devour.

“I know that but I was the only one that would have been able to get close enough to make the killing blow. It is likely familiar with big group hunts.” It was a truth many would never even entertain that a teen that barely has any hair on him would be capable of killing. Even the wolf didn’t seem to think as it revealed itself and got so close. It had made itself vulnerable yet it did not think it had anything to fear.

Those red eyes stared at him with hunger, it saw him as something lesser as it stared into his eyes. Now it was just a coat that lay over Izuku’s shoulders and coins in his pocket from the town that had been desperate for peace. An apprentice to a more famous hunter, yet he took it into his own hands. He felt like he needed to.

“Y’know before I killed him. He spoke to me,” Izuku speaks as he lifts the blade he used to slit the wolf's throat. A solemn look was clear on his face as he stared at the blade, “He thought so little of me. No other hunter or victim that did get away said he spoke nor ever got so close but he went to my face almost like was laughing. But after I took the opportunity to strike he looked so terrified. Like I was a monster.”

Slowly Izuku puts the blade down on the table staring at it as his mentor looks at him concerned. It didn’t change the fact he killed the creature without hesitation, he did not stop even when looking at him pleading. This was the line of work he was meant to follow so there isn’t much he can do. Still he wonders if-

“I’m sure in the next life he will forgive you. If you meet,” Yagi said. “You had no choice.”

There is a wry smile on Izuku’s face as he knows that is a lie. There was very much a choice but in the end he had chosen the easier option for coin and a coat. But he wants to believe he tried his best, that all he could do was put down a wolf that was a threat to everyone.

He wasn’t a monster… Right?

Notes:

This short story is actually based on a song "Big Bad Wolf" by Lilith Max. Highly recommend it and you definitely see how it inspired this story~!
