Vee looked at the Dimensional Door.
Sometimes, it was hard to believe that there really was a portal there, especially after they spent almost a whole summer trying to brute-force one into existence.
She had long since grown used to it being there, even if she first worried about anybody being able to come and go. Thankfully that didn't happen, the only people coming over were her friends and some guests who were curious about the Human Realm. Nobody stayed or lingered longer than expected, and neither did they care about a Basilisk being around. So that was fine by her.
Because Belos was gone.
This time for real.
And everything he built and put into motion was slowly being dismantled and the Demon Realm was being rebuilt back as something better.
Oh, and then there was Luz, who came and went, splitting her time equally between the two Realms. She reassured Vee many times that there was nothing to fear in the Demon Realm, and that she was free to visit anytime. And if anybody gave her trouble, then they had to go through her sister and friends first - not to mention their Mom.
Vee appreciated it. But it would be a long time before she felt ready to go over. In the meanwhile, she was in good hands, she thought fondly.
Maybe she would visit the Owl House, it's just on the other side after all. And she had already met Eda, King, and Raine when they visited, so that should be fine. It seemed like a small enough step to consider.
She didn't think that she would even contemplate stepping over the threshold of dimensions again.
But now that Luz is going off to college in the Demon Realm, well, it made her think about the future. And also about the Demon Realm in general.
It's not that Vee didn't believe Luz, she definitely did. But her relationship with the Realm of her origin was a clear-cut one - it was horrible. There was no other way to put it. And despite her reassurance, Luz understood.
Maybe she just wants to make sure that Vee knows it was over, well and truly over.
Maybe Vee could even agree with that.
Most days, she didn't even think about the Realm right on the other side of the door. And that was fine by her. She was happy with the life she got now and she had so many things she wanted to do in this Realm. Visiting her old Realm was not one of them.
But maybe, she can give it a try, one day.
She wanted to see what her sister and friends had built. She wanted to share in Luz's joy and love.
She wanted to give it another chance.
Maybe when she was older. Or when the rebuilding was finished.
Or maybe when the idea doesn't strike hesitation in her heart. She was sure that there would be a day like that - not now, but, one day.
There was no need to rush.
Vee could give the Demon Realm, not the old one, but this new place her sister and friends lived in, another chance one day. At her pace.
And if she needed help or just a little support, she would always have her Mom and sister there to turn to, as well as her friends in both Realms.
