"I think that I want another baby," Debra forced herself to admit, half hoping that Ray was sleeping after the terrible ordeal he'd had having his adenoids removed. "I know that it's unrealistic, that we're probably too old, that it's selfish of me to change my mind after all of these years--"
"You're not selfish for changing your mind, Deb," Ray mumbled. He tightened his hold on her. "If my near death experience changed your mind on wanting another baby, I'm not gonna be the one to say no. You know my feelings on the subject."
Yes, Debra reminded herself, it wasn't a secret that Ray had been the one who wanted more kids, while she had been understandably hesitant after their attempt at trying for a second had led to a second and third. "What are your feelings on the subject?" She asked him through a yawn.
"I want another baby," he said simply. "Are you really sure that you do?"
"Yeah. I wouldn't lie to you about this, Ray." Mainly because if there was any uncertainty toward it at all, she wouldn't have brought it up. "Why don't we see what happens? If it works, great."
"If not, that's okay, too," he whispered. "Not gonna hold it against you if it doesn't happen, yummy mummy." He kissed the crown of her head. "I'm really sorry about earlier," he added. "I didn't mean to cause such a fuss."
"You don't have to apologise," she murmured. "What happened earlier, it wasn't your fault. If I was going to blame anyone, it would be that hospital." Debra was considering suing -- they'd nearly cost her her husband. "I'm just glad that you're okay."
He sighed. "Yeah, Deb, me too. And, I'm gonna do better, yanno? With you, the kids, everything. I promise."
She shifted in his embrace in order to meet his gaze. "It's okay, if you don't. I don't expect you to, or really care anymore. You're fine, Ray. Honestly, I feel like a bitch for even complaining."
"I know that I don't have to, but I want to. I nearly died, Debra, and I don't want to squander the new chance I got. Not when it comes to you, or our family."
"Or your parents?"
He scoffed. "Nah, I don't really see the need to spend more time with my folks."
"I love you, Ray. Don't change on my account."
