Clownish

Summary:

After Jade noticed that something was off with her bow she went with Emily, one of the staff members, to get a new one. While doing so Spencer sat down on a crate, waiting for her to return, but someone else came up to him instead.

Notes:

I got this idea after watching episode 4. I really whatever to see some DIENCER interactions IN the challenge.. sadly we got none. In this fic we don't get that either.. but more of an interaction I could've seen happening before the challenge actually started. Again, no smut, just them being silly. I currently lack ideas so this took me like over a week to finally finish. I hope yall enjoy this one as well!! 🤗

Work Text:

After the red and blue team got split into hunter and prey, Jade complained about her bow being broken, making the teams have to wait until the challenge could finally start. As Jade went with one of the staff members, Emily, to get a new bow, Spencer sat down on a crate nearby, waiting for Jade to return. He scratched one of his eyes before he saw Diego approaching him.

"Hey Amigo!"

He greeted Spencer with a warm smile.

"Salutations."

He greeted back shortly after turning fully around to Diego, who chuckled and put one arm on his hip.

"They really did go all out with the carnival theme, hehe."

"I suppose so. In my opinion, it's a waste of time. We're living in such a modern world. Why bother putting all this ridiculous makeup on if you could just put some silly effects over the video material?"

Spencer stated with a slightly frown, making Diego smile even more.

"I like the creativity and effort they're putting into everything here. Besides, I think you look very cu- cool with that whole clown look!"

Diego explained, making Spencer roll his eyes slightly.

"I'd gladly swap roles with you. Hunting the others seems way more fun than being the one hunted. Besides, I wouldn't have to dress like a literal clown then, embarrassing myself on international television."

There was a small pause on Diego's end. He was thinking about how to tell Spencer that he'd actually find him adorable with that whole clown look going on. But before he could do so, Diego noticed something.

"Oh uh, you got something there."

Before Spencer even had the chance to register, what Diego could've been potentially pointing out, he felt a finger near his eye, which he scratched before. He was shocked at first, slightly freezing, before eventually realizing what was going on.

"Bloody hell- Diego! What are you doing?!

"Un momento, mi amigo. Your makeup is, er, slightly smeared."

Diego desperately tried to fix the smeared spot near Spencer's eye. Yet it seemed like as if he only made it worse, making it go from an almost unnoticeable smeared spot into a completely ruined looking clown makeup look. But Diego didn't want to give up.

"God damn, Diego! Just let it be."

Spencer protested while trying to move Diego's hand away.

"Wait, I almost got it."

"..er."

Diego moved his hand away after noticing that Spencer tried to remove it himself. As he looked at Spencer's face, he couldn't help but chuckle slightly, scratching his neck awkwardly. Spencer's makeup did not only look completely ruined now, but more so as if someone had taken him and used him as a mop to clean the floor with his face half. You could barely tell anymore what he was supposed to be, despite his clown fit.

"What did you do?"

Spencer touched his right face half, noticing that it felt slightly different, and after seeing the face paint on Diego's hands, he rolled his eyes in an annoyed matter.

"Brilliant, just brilliant." Spencer stood up, crossing his arms. "I probably look even more pathetic now."

"Ah, no-! Spencer, I.." Diego took his hat off, placing it in front of his chest, avoiding Spencer's stern look. "Lo siento.."

He apologized, desperately trying to get the face paint off of his fingers, giving Spencer a slight glance.

"..It sure doesn't come off that easily, heh."

Diego tried to lighten the mood.

"Yet you managed to smear all that makeup across my face."

Spencer replied in an annoyed tone. Diego looked at him in an apologetic manner.

"I'm really sorry, Spencer. I didn't mean to smear the makeup even further. I just wanted to.." He paused and looked away, scratching his head. "I just wanted to help you."

Spencer sighed. Of course, he's pissed off, but the smartest thing to do now is to not turn this frustrating situation into some argument, potentially losing Diego as a voting partner.

"It's.. fine. I, uh, appreciate that you wanted to help."

Diego quickly lightened up and began looking at Spencer again as he put his hat on again.

"I- I promise! Next time, I won't do such a thing."

Spencer gave a light smile to that statement.

"If  there is a next time you'll be the one dressed up as a clown. I don't even know why I didn't get to be a hunter. With my knowledge of-"

"Hey, Spence."

Jade interrupted Diego's and Spencer's conversation after successfully returning with a new and functioning bow.

"Check out my new bow. I think that this one is way better than the other on-"

Spencer turned around to face her, making Jade stop mid sentence.

"..what happened to your.. face?"

"Don't mention it."

Spencer simply replied. Before Jade could answer, another voice was already heard.

"Oh my god. You can't be serious?!"

It was Emily.

"And here I thought I was finally done for today. Is it really that hard to keep your hands off of eachother? You guys are worse than Trevor and Derek."

"What? That's not what ha-"

"I don't care. Just come with me so I can do your stupid makeup all over again."

Emily practically started dragging Spencer with her while glaring at every contestant they passed by with an annoyed look. Jade and Diego watched as Spencer got pulled into a small tent, in which everyone got their gear and makeup put on before. Jade turned around to Diego.

"I wasn't even gone for 10 minutes. How did that happen?"

Diego only chuckled slightly, hinting that it was his fault.
