Chapter Text

prologue

Click. Clack. Click. A woman was walking down the alleyway. Bricks on the ground, spilled drinks and trash around the alleyway dumpster. Disgusting smells lingered in the air. A heavy breath and screams. The woman caught up to someone and pinned them down. She was now holding the man down with a knife to his throat.

Behind them a second pair of Footsteps following. The woman was about To dig the knife into the man's throat when someone spoke up.

“Freeze.” a voice from behind called. A tall man stood behind her, gun drawn and aimed at her.

She didn't turn, keeping the shiny knife pressed against the man, a thin layer of blood where the knife was situated on the victim's throat. “Something the matter, Detective?” She called in a sweet voice.

A small tch came from the man as he said “Don't play coy,” he paused, “Oleander.”

The man struggled under Oleander's grip trying to move himself away from the sharp silver blade. His face pale in fear, brown hair ruffled, his amber and green eyes were wide pleading for help.

“Let him go.” The detective shouted.

“Or what? Oleander smirked, pressing the blade harder against the man, the cut getting deeper and more blood spilling from the wound. The man thrashed against Oleander’s grip trying to push the blade away from his neck.

As the Detective saw more blood, BANG! A gunshot flew right by Oleander’s head.
“You know I don’t miss Oleander, that’s the only warning shot you’ll get. Now let him go so we can have a chat.” Oleander was staring at the Detective with disdain in her eyes.

She moved her knife away from the frightened man's neck, he then scampered away from her and past the detective, running off into the night. The detective tried to call out and stop the man, but he'd already run out of the alleyway into the darkness of the night.

Oleander's back was facing the detective as she was fiddling with the dagger in her hand, which had a thin line of blood on its blade.

“Drop it or I’ll shoot.”

The woman's head turned, a devilish grin on her face, barely visible in the dark, arms dropped down to her side as the knife was dropped to the ground.

“Kick it away.” The detective glared at her.

She looked displeased as she kicked the blade towards the detective, “Come on Detective, so cautious for no reason. Who gave you such trust issues?”

“Hah…. Last time we met and you dropped the knife you ended up kicking it up with your shoe and stabbing me in the shoulder.” The detective said in a dry tone.

Oleander's face scrunched, recalling the moment with a surprised face as she dropped the knife and kicked it away, “Oh yes! I remember that now, and we were in a similar situation as we are now. My, my, how history repeats itself again and again.”

The detective reached into his pocket and grabbed out his handcuffs with his other hand, “Yeah, but now our little game of cat and mouse is over. I’m taking you in. I’ve waited four years for this moment, Oleander.”

Oleander raised her hands up, showing some form of surrender, “Four years then? Four years of this cat and mouse and in all that time you haven’t been able to stop me yet. Today won’t be any different.”

The detective stared at Oleander for a moment, one hand down to the side holding his cuffs, his right hand holding the gun aimed at her.

“Yet today is already different. I stopped you from murdering another innocent person. Now your time is up. You got too cocky and now you’re gonna end up in cuffs and then a prison cell for the rest of your life..” The detective said as he walked a pace forward.

Oleander's eyebrows scrunched and her eyes narrowed, “Oh? Really now. Be careful with your word detective, you have no idea what's going on.”

Before the detective could respond a cackling laughter came from her. Oleander was hunched over giggling.

Unsettled, the detective asked, “What?”

“Ahahahha!....,” Oleander paused before standing straight up again resuming her cold facade, “Oh, nothing detective but you’ll see it one day. You’ll see.”

There was a cold silence, neither of them moving, After what seemed like minutes the Detective tossed the handcuffs to the ground below her.

“Put them on.”

“And if I refuse, oh let me guess…. You’ll shoot me?” Oleander tilted her head.

The detective did not reply, only a cold glare keeping his gun level.

"We've done this little song and dance before Detective, besides you won’t shoot me. Now you ruined my night, so I have to go find the little rat~ that you let scurry off.” Oleander waved as she turned, walking away down the alley.

“Stop Oleander.” He called.

“You know I won’t, Detective~” She hummed as she continued walking.

“I won’t ask again.”

In a teasing voice Oleander responded as she waved one of her hands dismissively, “Come now detective we just had this conversation already, we both know you won’t shoot m-”

A loud noise echoed through the alley.
