the non-witch

Summary:

Finally getting settled into our new house in the forest, we lay on our ( not yet put in the right spot) couch thinking about the odd couple of days it's been with the weird but nice elderly neighbors, and the feeling of little eyes on us, we cement one last job referral before we pass out.

Chapter Text

Getting this house was life changing ( other than the fact we had to move to a hole nother town where we don't know anyone, and in to a forest so it's real hard to get internet), no more staying at friends, no more city air, life is good, other than the fact that we need to get a new job, but life is good.

The house was cheap, a family friend knew a guy, who knew a guy, so we got it for way below market price. The house was a bit in the forest so the nearest bus stop was a Waze to go to get back to civilization. I haven't talked a lot with the neighbors who live a bit deeper into the forest, they're all elderly old women who seem to be nice, offering snacks, and a place to talk, though with all of the unpacking, we haven't been able to talk to them to much. Though I think they want us, to leave I don't really blame them they're all elderly, and considering our age compared to them it makes sense.

Don't get me wrong this house has some issues that need to be resolved, we need to call someone to install the internet, we're thinking one of the drinking water pipes rusted, and the amount of bugs that we had to kill and put outside is wild. But we think the worst thing is the feeling of eyes on us. What is most likely just nerves have spiraled into us constantly searching for whatever is causing it, but as we get settled in more we're serten it'll go away.

It's almost noon when we wake up, we sit up from our position on the couch. We hold still for a while, not wanting to get out of the warmth of the blanket, but hunger takes over witch finally gets us up. The sun was already coming in to the house as we haven't hung the curtains up. We make our way to the kitchen, and start to make whatever food we have left, we make a mental reminder to get to the store to day. Since that's going to take all day after breakfast we get dressed in whatever we can find at the moment, and head out the door unsure of when or if the bus will come. The bus ride itself was beautiful, however we just went in to any store and grabbed whatever we thought would last long enough for now, and headed home. How did this take 3 hours???

We walk into the house, and set down to two bags we had. Instantly something is weird, the salt shaker is opened and tipped over on the counter, we don't even remember if we used any salt this morning. Walking over entirely confused, we screw the lid back on and sweep the salt on the counter off and go to turn around, but something strange cough our eye on the counter watching us. A brown gingerbread man. Did one of the old women come by and break in just to give us a cooke?? Turning back around knowing what where looking for, there stands (STANDS) a brown gingerbread man ( gingerbread women?) With long brown hair (??), she's wearing a white dress and a cute little marshmallow hat, and a little mug in her hands. We blink in confusion, she blinks, we stare intently in confusion. We want to run, it's clear she not a threat and is most likely as confused as we, so instead we scream. We end up comically stepping back and falling on to the floor, she runs to the edge of the counter looking down at me shocked, before jumping off the counter and rushing up to us.

"Are you okay?" She says with concern in her voice.

"Wa? How are you talking?" Any urgency to get away from this thing left our body.

Any tension left in her little body quickly leaves. "You're not a witch are you" it's not a question, more of a statement.

"That helps my nerves a lot, do you have any warm drinks, I'm sure it'll help you calm your nerves, perhaps some cocoa?"

The only thing left in our brain is still just confusion, as this think takes an entire 180.

"Ya I think I have some cocoa left from be for we moved" we opened our hand a little bit not wanting to grab her, she jumps on but jostles around a bit when we go to stand up.

We set her down on the counter, as I got to get the cocoa power, and start boiling water. "Aw in packets, it's much better homemade" She says way more sadly then anyone else would.

"It's just what we have right now, will be sure to have the good stuff the next time you come by" making a mental note for the next time we go shopping, we get into another cabinet for the marshmallows.

Nerves much calmer than before we ask "why was the salt knocked over?"

"Hehe, I thought it was sugar" She states embarrassingly. We let out a chuckle and she laughs as well.

The water finally comes to a boil, and we poor it into mugs for the two of us, not even thinking about the fact that we're talking to a cookie the same size as the cup. Before we could say anything about it she double jumps in to one of the cups of cocoa. That fixes that issue. We stur what is on our cocoa, as she spins around in hers.

"Hm, we never did get your name"

"I'm cocoa cookie" She says with the biggest smile on her face as she continues to spin around in the cocoa. There's a faint "cocoa cocoa cocoa"

That names really on the nose. Adding marshmallows in and taking a swig cocoa dose the same with her little mug.

Us and cocoa talk longer about nothing, but it was an enjoyable conversation. At some point it gets dark a cocoa hast to head home, we take her out side in the direction she points set her down, and she walks back home. We think one thing at the end of this day "HOWD SHE GET IN????" Now we have to find that hole.

Chapter Text

Waking up feels like opening my eyes after the longest dream of our life. We'd almost think that it was but the two drank cups of cocoa in the sink proves that something happened yesterday. It seams like yesterday I just decided to go on autopilot and not question what was actually going on. Some of cocoa's words finally strike us. She thought I was a witch. That sounds crazy ( especially cus it came out of the mouth of a talking cookie), but she was scared when she thought I was a witch, and that I look like one enough that she couldn't tell the difference. That worries me. Hell we didn't even get in to the devastating question of "who made you?" "Why?". I feel like I know the answer.

We finally decided to cook some breakfast instead of staring at the wall contemplating life. There was still some work that had to be done and after our little visit from yesterday nothing really got done other than a small bit of shopping. Deciding to tackle the kitchen knowing that very soon will need more that one plate at a time, I wash the dishes in the sink, put them some where to dry, and opened the one box with all of the dishes our parents let us have. We put them away, however not with out finding a couple broken ones that had to be thrown away. Decideding to do one more box before a break, we notice that we actually don't have another box, and that at some point will have to go to the store to get rags and cleaning supplies.

Siting on the couch decideding to scroll through any app that looks appealing right now. However it's not long in to our break that we here a small crash and tiny voices screaming. I look in to the kitchen from my spot on the couch, however don't see anything and have to make my way over there. There stands cocoa and two other cookies looking over a (thankfully) not shattered cup from the counter. Cocoa runs over to me (as much as she can wal staying on the counter).

"I am sooo sorry for knocking that cup over" she sounds a little panicked, like I'd knock her off the counter if I didn't like her apology.

"Your OK cocoa, you didn't mean it" we say, and then look over to where the two other cookies where. And there. There hiding behind a see through glass jar, and I have to laugh internally as the glass warps there frowning faces.

"Who are they?" I say looking back at cocoa sipping on her small glass.

"Ah! Oh let me introduce you" she walks behind the glass jar, and talks to them for a second before all three walk out, no longer as scared of me.

"I'm cherry blossom cookie!" Cherry blossom says excitedly. She has pastel pink long hair with two little pig tails, She's wearing a pink and white Lolita styled dress, and she's holding a cute umbrella and a briefcase.

"And I'm mint choco cookie" mint choco says Wal bowing. He has green and white hair, he's wearing a nice looking white suit with a green shirt underneath, and he's holding a green and brown violen. He sounds a bit scared still, but I don't blame him, if anything cocoa and cherry blossom are the weird ones.

"Hello you two" we say as we try to not show our teeth with our smile.

"OH! Did you get the good cocoa yet?" Cocoa says before putting her cup up to her lips and taking a sip.

"Eh? Cocoa I haven't gone to the store yet. We talked yesterday" we say looking a bit dumbfounded at her.

"Aw why not" "cus it just turned noon"

"I know! Why don't we all go right now" Cherry blossom says, breaking through some sort of weird silence.

"We don't think we can fit in your stores-" "not our stores! Your stores!" she says in almost excitement.

"I don't think that's a good idea, what if there are witches there?" Mint choco speaks up sounding concerned.

"I'm with mint, not for the same reason, but you guys can get hurt, and what if someone sees you" we say, crossing our arms like a parent who hast to convince there children that they don't need chicken nuggets for dinner.

"See the witch understands" "what."

Despite this the two girls don't hear us, and instead talk about all the things there want to see at the store.

We sigh knowing we're not getting out of this, and instead try to make a plan about getting them to the store, getting the things we need inside the store, and then getting back home without anyone seeing them the entire way.

Making our way to the bus stop, we losely feel around our jacket pockets making sure we have everything, keys check, wallet check, three cookies sqirling around in our pockets check. Thankfully I convinced them that they all had to stay in my jacket pockets for safety, but with how much there moving its not going to last long. We sit down at the bus stop, feeling kinda dumb and way too nervous, the bus should (hopefully) be here soon.

Mint choco nervously pokes his head out of our pocket. "Can we come out now, it's getting hot in here"

We sigh "yeah, but you have to get back in when the bus gets here" immediately all cookies run out of our pockets like it's black Friday, almost excited.

"Aw how are we not there yet?" Says cherry blossom, disappointed. "It's gonna take a while, sorry" we say trying to have a polite smile.

"How long?" Asks mint, looking surprised. "At least 30 minutes. If the bus comes at all" we say as we sigh.

"Do your busses not always come?" Asks cocoa this time. "Most of the time they do, but there usually very late, but I don't know how often this one comes concerning this is close to a forest" we say, sun beaming through the leaves in to our eyes, the rock we were sitting one is starting to hurt.

"Speak of the devil" looking down the road, we see the bus down the road. I usher all of the cookies back in to our pockets, and grab out our wallet. The bus comes to a scretching holt, like the bus driver wasn't expecting to stop. Stepping on to the bus, the driver gives me a bit of a weird looks as we pay, then I go to sit down somewhere on the very empty bus.

Somehow they lasted a shorter amount of time than before, they try talking to us normally but I shush them with my finger and let them know that the bus driver will hear them if the talk to loud. So instead of talking cocoa climes up on our shoulder, I sigh figuring the bus driver wouldn't notice cus they have to pay attention to the road, and that if they were to check they wouldn't be able to tell what was on my shoulder. Taking this as an invitation to come up as well. New to this experience, we huff out a breath and sink into our jacket.

And finally we reach to store, thank fully with out anyone noticing the walking talking cookies, who for the love of God won't stop messing with things. We had to got to an actual supermarket this time, unlike yesterday where we went to the nearest 711. Walking through the doors I can faintly hear a "ooohh" in awe as the doors open and close by themselves, a fan turns on as we walk through.

"I wander what kind of witch hast to manage the doors like that?" I hear from somewhere in our jacket. At some point I may have to explain things like that to them, but this is not that time. I head for the dry ingredients section, knowing that the main reason where here is for cocoa. We find it after a hot minute of looking around the store, we walk up to the self of ingredients and look around before pulling the cookie out of our pockets.

"Witch one do you want cocoa? I don't know witch ones are the best" we say pointing to all of the chocolates.

"I don't even know what theses say, but anything will taste better than those packets" cocoa says, semi hurting my feelings cus I like those packets. I hum, and then randomly pull some chocolates from the shelf, the cookies all usher in to our pockets before we head to find the milk, that's all you need for cocoa right? Milk and chocolate? Will find out when cocoa tells us off.

I pike up a carten of milk that looks appetizing, but not before eyeing the chocolate milk that I know we didn't need. Looking around before pulling the cookie out again, "dose anyone else want anything?" We say looking in to out hands, down at them.

Cherry blossom perked up like an eager child wating for there turn. "Some tea would be nice, wouldn't it" mint looks at her still not understanding how he got roped into this, clearly like me he's just along for the ride. Heading for the drink section, I keep my hands held out still holding the cookies, knowing I'll have to pull them out once we get there. Making it over to the section, cherry blossom is disappointed to find that they don't sell cherry blossom tea (what is with these cookies and liking there own ingredients???).

"Will just have to go to an Asian supermarket at some point-" Cherry blossom perks up "-but not right now" Cherry blossom deflats. "We still have other things to pick up here, and I don't even know we're one is" instead of putting them back in our pockets, we set them up on our shoulders and tell them to hide if they see anyone else, and go to pick up some other food, as they make conversation to each other and me.

We finally get home after a tiring day of going to one store. The cookies seem as lively as ever, but our social battery has been depleted. We don't say much to the cookie other than small sentences, as we put everything away and set some milk on to boil, thankfully the cookies seem to be entertaining each other just fine. Cutting up a good sized piece of chocolate, I place it into a cup for cocoa, hoping I got the measurements right. Mint choco gave a strained look to the cutting of chocolate, but went back to talking right after.

Finishing the cocoa, we set it on the counter without saying much more than "here you go cocoa". We head to the living room and sit on the couch, I scroll through my phone for awhile before noticing that the cookies have started to follow, we sigh a smile, pick them up as easily as we can, grab the cup of cocoa, and sit back down on the couch. We're certain that thave noticed how quiet we were, but it's clear they understood in there own way.

At this point honestly, I was half asleep still awake, the cookies decided that it's time for them to leave, they thank us for taking them to the store, it's clear that they had fun. Deciding to do something productive, other than shopping, we finally endure calling the internet company, Deciding it be easier to job hunt with wifi. Falling to sleep on the couch again, knowing that if we continue to do this that our back will be ruined, but we don't get up, and instead pass out to a random video.
