Chapter Text
Dr. Stellvester Ajero watched the frail form. He isn't happy with it. The news was devastating. A sunken ship with barely enough survivors to count. It was way too much. Even for a small county, he knew much how the loss can last for years, that is if they could even recover.
Fifty-seven lost lives, some of which bodies were yet to be recovered. It was a tragic accident that no one ever wanted. The ship was already on fire when the rescue began. And all he could think were the grieving faces, eyes at a loss and brimming with tears.
Even outside of his care, he saw how the doctors scrambled up to their feet and worked sleepless nights just to save those who have barely survived, drowned while others were burnt. But out of all the things that kept on pulling his heart string, it was a young man who they found cradling a seven-year old girl.
They both survived. Well, he really did wish though that the man will just wake up now.
"Three weeks na siyang coma." He heard a voice whisper, and Stell paid the newcomer a glance.
"Did the girl already leave?" He asked.
He heard the man sigh. "She was discharged this morning. She wanted to visit him but we cannot allow her just yet. But she left a note."
Stell stared at the note which was handed to him. And from the barest of light, he saw the outer layer with scribbled writing.
To Kuya Paulo...
"We need to increase the dose if he remains unresponsive."
Stell heaved a sigh. He may be tired but he managed a word. He knew the instructions from yesterday and they were all juct clinging to one single thread for the man to finally wake up. He didn't want to be all sentimental now. He has enough experience to train himself to remain unfazed, what with this young man as their last patient from the last of the survivors of that ill fated cruise.
"I trust that he'll wake up, Josh." Staring at the still form, he whispered a silent prayer.
Please, wake up...
And by all means, he prayed that the God will hear him out.
