Work Text:
Wes is pissed. No surprise there of course, he’s almost always pissed. But today he has an actual reason outside of being stuck in an emotional flashback. He’s stuck with the Avengers instead of helping on the mission Daredevil and Deadpool are working on. It’s so ridiculous that he’s expected to be here instead of doing his job as Spiderman. Just because the team has some stupid new mission starting soon. He isn’t even an actual Avenger, there’s no fucking reason for him to be here.
He’s sitting in one of the office chairs set up around a big table in a conference room, watching as the different Avengers stream in. He doesn’t bother acknowledging any of them. God, he hates these people so much. He takes a bite out of the apple he snagged from the kitchen on his way in and fidgets in the chair, rotating it around a bit.
Captain America, Steve Rogers, starts the meeting off first of course, apologizing for disrupting their days and then starts to explain. Wes just sits there ignoring everything he says, it's useless anyways, not like he’s going to help these bastards.
“Right now S.H.I.E.L.D. is working on capturing the targets. Our job will be to interrogate Daredevil and Deadpool to try and figure out their intentions. S.H.I.E.L.D. wants to attempt to bring them on board as assets.”
This of course catches Wes’ attention and he can’t help but let out a light laugh in disbelief and reply, “You’re joking right? Those two would literally never agree to that,”
“Well, kid, they won’t have much of a choice, once they’re caught it's either agree or go to jail. One’s an illegal vigilante and the other’s a mercenary, it’ll be easy to charge them,” Tony replies.
Wes just stares at Tony in disbelief at that. Like did he forget that Spiderman’s a vigilante??? What the actual fuck is going on here??
“I don’t think it's a smart idea. They have a lot of allies that would help them get out of this if they can’t escape on their own. I think we should just mind our business and leave them to do what they do,” Hawkeye butts in.
Wes can’t help but be greatful that at least someone has a fucking braincell here, it makes sense considering Clint works closely with the others on occasion to get things done.
“Don’t worry, Barton, we’re the Avengers, they won’t be able to get out of here,” Tony says as if he thinks this is all just a joke to him.
Wes can feel his fingers start to tingle as he gets more and more upset and starts triggering a dissociative episode. He refuses to switch though and instead digs his nails into his palm hard enough to draw blood. He’s shaking now. Here he is, sitting here in this stupid fucking meeting, all while his best friends walk into a stupid trap. He’s sitting here in this room with the people who are working to trap his best friends. And they’re laughing like it's all so simple, like it's all just a joke.
“The agents should be initiating the trap any minute now, we’ll get a call once they’ve captured the two of them.”
At that, Wes smiles a little, he still has time to get his friends out of this situation. Quickly he brings out his phone and calls DD. He places it on speakerphone hoping to piss off the Avengers in the room. They all stare at him confused, preparing to ask what he’s doing when the call is finally answered.
“Peter, what's wrong?” Matt asks and Wes can’t help but sigh in relief that he’s answered the phone.
As he goes to open his mouth and answer he hears Wade in the back excitedly chime in, “Petey-pie’s calling?! Put it on speaker!”
Matt huffs and Wes is sure he’s doing exactly that.
“What’s poppin, baby boy?” Wade asks.
Wes can’t help but smile as he answers, “Don’t go in. It's a trap that the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. set up to catch you two,” All of the Avengers’ eyes sharpen as they glare suspiciously at Wes. Except for Hawkeye who seems to be fighting the urge to laugh.
“Thanks for the heads up, kid, see you tonight,” Matt says and hangs up.
Wes sighs in relief and smiles brightly as he looks around the room.
“Spiderman. What was that?” Captain America asks before anyone else can open their mouths. He sounds pissed off but Wes knows no one here is nearly as pissed as he is.
“You guys must’ve forgotten just who I am,” Wes says, staring into Steve’s eyes unflinchingly.
“And just what does that mean, Underoos?” Tony chimes in.
“You guys are so fucking stupid. You guys really thought I would sit here and be on your side for all of this? I’m a vigilante. I didn’t sign the Accords, I’m not a hero. What I do is just as illegal as what Daredevil does,”
“It's not the same!” Tony says, “You’re the friendly neighborhood Spiderman! He’s the devil!”
“So was that who was on the phone then? Your vigilante friend?” Steve says, his voice reeking of disgust.
“Yeah, yeah it was. I just called and told Daredevil and Deadpool exactly what you were doing, and tonight? Tonight I’ll be sitting on a rooftop with them eating food and beating asses. Do you really think I’m any different from them? We’re all just working to make shit better for people like us. Of course, you guys wouldn’t understand that, what with living in cushy places and not having to lift a finger to make rent every month. You all are spoiled assholes who forget what it's like to be a little guy, struggling to make it through life.”
Wes slams his hands on the table with that, breaking it by accident before walking out while the Avengers sit there in silence taken aback by the outburst.
