“What’s that? An egg?”
"Yes, ” Susan whispered, not to Hannah, but to the egg. Then, suddenly, Susan whipped her head, hair twirling through the air, eyes snapping to Hannah.
“You can’t tell anyone,” she demanded.
“Wha—“
"You can’t tell anyone," Susan gritted through her teeth.
“okay,” Hannah whimpered, though it went unnoticed by Susan who had already returned her attention to the egg.
“Tis’ a gift,” Susan scraped softly. Then the egg she scraped softly, with the pads of her fingers. She smiled. “Oh but it’s terrible Hannah, I do not love him. It is such a wonderful gift but I do not love him!” She fainted, silken hair following her into the mattress after her body. Hannah’s heart jumped up into her throat as she saw her dearest friend trip in such a spectacular manner, but down it went again after she heard the moan from her dearest friend.
“What should I do Hannah? Please , I am at a crossroads, my only wish is that I could walk back the way I came, but I can’t!" Muffled was her voice, but as she spoke she turned to open herself up to Hannah, but with despair in her eyes. At this display Hannah cringed.
“You could… give it to him anyway? It’s just an egg—” but before Hannah could finish her sentence Susan shrieked!
“Just an egg! Just. An. Egg?" She bolted up, silky smooth hair bouncing after her. A step towards Hannah, hunger in her eyes, or maybe it was anger, that sounded more reasonable, but she was holding an egg.
Susan stopped.
“Actually,” she said and a look of utter devastation visited her face. “You’re right,” she sighed so heavily that Hannah was scared she might fall again. “I cannot in good faith accept this, it is too delectable,” she cupped the egg, “smooth,” she touched ever so gently, “perfect,” Susan stared at it.
Hannah blinked.
“I could never repay in the companionship equal to or greater than the value of this egg. I will just have to give it back,” Susan said wisely, nodding her head, silken smooth healthy hair swinging in tandem.
Hannah blinked. Again.
Susan stormed up and kissed her on the lips, though it was more of a peck really.
“Thank you Hannah! You are so wise! I shall go and regift this beautiful egg this instant,” she said before hurrying out of the dorm.
“Isn’t Valentine's Day tomorrow? I thought you meant—”
