Chapter Text
Corvus was sitting in bed quietly, it was late, about 2 am if he had to guess. He didn't feel tired so instead he just stared out of his window to the trees outside.
He always loved trees. He loved the way their roots would reach far and wide into the soil, he adored their strong trunks that made sure they stood tall. He loved the way their branches swayed with the wind and he always looked forward to autum so he could see what gorgeous colours the trees' leaves would get.
As he was looking at the gentle sway of the tree branches that was caused by a soft breeze passing over Kratolis, he suddenly heard a knock on the door.
Usually he would have noticed if someone approached his room, but he had been so lost in though and the late hour did also not aid his attentiveness. Who could be knocking on his door at this time of the night?
He got up from his bed and opened the door.
On the other side of the door was Soren and he didn't look like he was having a fun night up till now. His forehead was covered in sweat, he looked very stressed and he had very dark circles under his eyes.
"Soren? What are you doing here? Did something happen?" Corvus asked with a mix of surprise and concern in his voice.
"Don't worry too much, Corvus. I'm fine. I just... had a bad dream" Soren answered avoidant.
"Soren, you and I both know you wouldn't come in here at this ungodly hour for: 'just a bad dream'." Corvus said sternly as he let Soren into his his room.
Soren walked into the room and sat down on a chair.
"Fine, it was a really bad dream." Soren admitted.
Corvus closed the bedroom door before he dropped the stern look and posture he was previously upholding and walked over to Soren.
He grabbed another chair and sat down next to Soren with a gentle expression.
"What was the dream about?" He asked Soren.
"I-" Soren began as he avoided eye contact, "um.."
He couldn't get any more words out of his mouth.
"It's okay if you don't want to tell me Soren." Corvus quickly said after noticing Soren's discomfort.
"Thanks Corvus." Soren replied a little more relaxed, "would you mind if I just, stayed here?"
Corvus was taken aback slightly at the request, but ofcourse he wouldn't mind. "Certainly not, we can work something out," He got up from his chair and sat down on his bed, "I could probably work something out on the floor or a chair or-"
Before he could get another word out Soren laid down next to him on the bed, "you don't have to do that Corvus. I'm fine with sharing, you?"
"Oh, yeah that would be more preferable than sleeping on the floor. Yeah I'm fine with sharing."
"Good."
Corvus felt himself getting slightly red, he hoped it was dark enough for Soren not to notice.
He too layed down and threw the blanket over both of them, it wasn't extremely spacious but that was okay. It seemed like Soren needed this. That nightmare, what ever it was about, really did a number on him, but he was relaxed now and he was out within minutes. Leaving Corvus the only one awake as he was not tired, he was left alone to focus on the beautiful trees and Soren, also beautiful.
