Chapter Text
one can assume that the Knave hasnt felt happiness for ages.
let it be her hardened expression all day long, or the fact her true emotions never show. and as far as her children know, theyve never seen her show any sort of emotion.
“Lady Furin- i mean, Furina.” lyney called. furina had began living in the house of hearth ever since she stopped being the archon.
furinas gaze followed the young man stepping up to her. she had been lounging on a plush couch, thumbing through her phone. nothing interesting! maybe i should write another play..
“Surely you know how to please Father? i am certain her condition is worsening. Lynette is with her currently, but shes just been so.. avoiding.” lyney said, lowering his voice. “like, she wont even look at us. if we ask her for something, she just goes off to her office.”
“Shes with Lynette?” furina mumbled, getting up and setting her phone down. “make sure the other kids are alright, ill be back.”
“Father, please.. why wont you talk to us?” lynette voiced, although it came out quiet. she was quite worried, worried something was seriously wrong.
arlecchino would appear cozy at the hearth, not covering up because she felt safe. but, she had just been covering her arms and her back really just her whole torso. it worried lynette beyond belief.
“Arle?” Furina burst into the office arlecchino often hid in, her gaze shifting toward lynette. “you can go, ill talk to her.”
lynette immediately took her leave, giving furina a look of thankfulness.
Arlecchino looked up, seeing her girlfriend standing before her. she then looked back down at a fixed spot.
“Come on, really?” furina asked. “even with me?”
The other woman found no purpose in speaking. she had to keep her emotions under control.
if she didnt, it would just spread. her curse. it hadnt ever been this bad, it was practically covering both of her arms, and her whole back. she had to watch her emotions. maybe it would lessen, like how it used to.
furina tilted arlecchinos chin up, making her meet her own eyes.
“please. talk to me, you dont have to keep it in.”
“Leave my sight” arlecchino spoke, her voice laced with anger. she was by no means angry at anyone but herself.
but when she saw that hurt look in furinas eyes… she stood up, grabbing the womans arm and pulling her in for a hug.
“i apologize” the jacket arlecchino was wearing slid off of her shoulders, revealing the darkness of her skin.
furinas gaze shifted to the exposed skin, and her hand immediately came up to touch it. it was a bit hot. like the other old spots.
“is this why youve..” furina trailed off, not wanting to startle arlecchino.
“i made a lapse in my judgement, i believed i could live a life where i was not so strict on myself. but it seems i added flame to the existing fires.”
furina gulped, pulling arlecchinos jacket fully off. her eyes widened. arlecchino..
“its everywhere” she commented. arlecchino kept her gaze down.
“if youre really hurting, why havent you said anythi-” “its hard furina.”
arlecchino turned away, walking up to the open window.
“i grew up keeping my emotions in check, because if i didnt? if i didnt, all it did was hurt people. all it did was hurt the one i loved most.”
clervie, furina knew of that kid. and she knew how important clervie was to arlecchinos development.. who she was now.
“if i was compliant and quiet, i wouldnt end up bruised. and when i wasnt compliant, nor quiet, i killed her.” a shaky breath left the taller woman, and furina could see darkness spreading further down arlecchinos back in real time.
“Stop talking, its.. lets talk later.” furina quickly uttered, walking up behind arlecchino.
“what, is it spreading? i quite frankly couldnt care anymore.”
