Adopting Drew (DaniLill one-shot)

Work Text:

“Danielle, are you sure?” Lill asked her wife as they both got into the car, “Are you sure you want to adopt a kid?”

“Yes! I want to adopt one to call our very own! It’s been my dream since I was a young girl, to have a family! A wife, a child!” Danielle responded, oddly enthusiastic.

“Alright, if that’s what you want,” Lill smiled as Danielle pulled out of the driveway, and began driving towards the orphanage.

“How old do you want the child to be? Gender?” Danielle asked at a red light.

“Any is okay,” Lill replied.

As they pulled into the parking lot of the orphanage, Danielle kissed Lill on the cheek and got out of the car. The clicking of Danielle’s heels had a calming effect on Lill.

I think it’ll be alright, Lill thought.

They went inside, and were immediately greeted by many different faces. The employees, the kids, other parents, it was a sight to see.

Lill and Danielle looked at many different kids, their ages anywhere from five to thirteen, different races and cultures, and some really adorable ones. But none of them seemed perfect.

“We’ve seen all the kids, Danielle, let’s go home, and tomorrow we’ll go to an adoption center,” Lill said, rubbing Danielle’s back.

Then, an employee approached the two and said, “You know, there’s a boy who’s in his room who I don’t think you’ve seen yet.”

Lill’s face lit up, knowing how happy Danielle looked without having to look.

“Yes, we’ll see him,” she said.

The two followed the employee, and saw a boy-around the age of eight-sitting and writing in a notebook.

“His name is Andrew,” he said.

Danielle sat next to the young boy. “Hey, I’m Danielle.”

The boy hastily scribbled on his notebook and showed it to her. It read, Hi! I’m Drew :)

“Aww, he’s adorable,” Lill cooed.

“I think he’s the one,” Danielle responded.

The two signed the papers the employee brought them, Danielle carrying Drew in her arms.

“You’re in good hands, dear,” Lill said as they got in the car.

She showed Lill his notebook, which read, You two seem like super cool moms!

Both women smiled, and Danielle pulled out of the parking lot, driving to Drew’s new home.
