Work Text:
She stared at the ceiling, unmoving. Maybe if she laid here long enough the day will end. Nina could only hope. When she woke up today she knew that it was going to be one of Those days. A day where it felt as if everything was hanging over her but there was nothing inside her. It was odd when this happened. It hadn’t happened in a while so she thought her medications were working but that’s the problem with becoming complacent. You get used to how everything falls into place and then when there’s a hitch your whole world feels like it’s falling apart.
Life doesn’t stop.
Nina still had work to do. Being a PR manager she couldn’t just call in sick like when she was an accountant. Her work wouldn’t still be there waiting for her. Instead whatever project she was working on would mean the deadline had to be pushed, people that had contracts tied to that project would have their work affected and they would become outraged, and Strayz could lose their spot being mentioned and it would be all because poor little Nina didn’t feel right and called in. She couldn’t risk that domino effect happening. She pushed through the day and now she found herself here in bed, staring at the ceiling.
Then there was a cough beside her. She had forgotten that she wasn’t at her place but inside Stu’s room. She turned her head to look at him and found that he too was staring at the ceiling. She didn’t know why she came to the abandoned hotel. She was in no condition to be around anybody but in some nonsensical sense not being able to be around people made her want to be around something familiar. Stu had become a constant in her life. She sent pictures to him of whatever reminded her of him and that led to them chatting and they saw each other enough that they were used to the other’s habits.
So here they lie side-by-side in silence. Nina didn’t know all that Stu had been through or what had happened to him during Strayz's hiatus but ever since regrouping Stu had always had such a haunting look to his eyes, as if the owner of them had experienced far too much in their short time alive. Even Stu’s smiles seemed to hide something. Never looking as if they were made with happiness but one of that a person would smile when what they’ve said could never be understood.
Were they to rot in this bed together would anything change? Would anybody realize that they were missing or would they continue without them, never wondering where they were? Strayz could always hire a new PR manager and a new keyboardist. They were famous and well-known enough to get plenty of offers. Nina knew that wouldn’t happen. Eventually, they would return to life; her back to taking care of her cats and Stu to making music but for now they were in this quiet room in a bed laying side-by-side. Neither of them may be in the best of moods and she didn’t know when they would come out of this but they were here together and that in itself brought her a small bit of comfort.
