Andarna: Taking Flight!
Andarna was hoping that her dad would keep his previous promise about training with Violet after practice concluded. She didn’t find it fair that every other dragon got the chance to go flying, but she didn’t. Whether it was because she was too small or that Tairn was the more powerful dragon, the scorpiontail dragon wasn’t sure. But Andarna would get her own way in the end. If not, waking up after 650 years was a complete waste of time.
I need to speak with you after I touch down, dad. The baby dragon informed him as she was already making the journey over to the field. Well, you and Violet. Remember the promise you made me?
We’ll have to see how mum feels about that promise. But I’m sure Violet will be desperate to get away from me, so convincing her is probably the easiest option. The black dragon scoffed back to her. What had Tairn decided to train her in now?
He decided it would be a fun idea to drop me mid air. Violet replied, as if answering the question which Andarna had asked to herself. Of course he decided to drop her mid flight.
Well at least I caught you. Her dad countered in response. Get used to this thrill, you’re a rider.
At that moment, the baby dragon was glad not to be a rider or to be involved in anything that Tairn was doing. Dropping a rider in mid air didn’t seem like much fun. Perhaps it was thrilling, but not in a good way. Clearly the only one having fun between the two was Tairn.
Focus on not leading Violet to her death, I’ll be at the field in the next couple minutes. Andarna demanded him, and she meant it. The black dragon better not hand over a dead dragon to her–
Relax, little one. You’re stubborn for a baby dragon.
As soon as Andarna was about to touch down out of the way of training, she saw Tairn do some sort of spin in mid air with Violet. He dropped her for a brief second, before getting her to mount him once again.
“Cadet Sorrengail, tell your dragon to control himself!” Professor Kaori yelled, and from that alone, she knew that Tairn would be making a big deal about how dragons cannot be controlled by riders.
I’ll give him a piece of my mind after this flight session is over. The black dragon communicated instantly after, as if he had timed it like that.
Do you want me to call mum over? Andarna threatened, knowing that Sgaeyl was perhaps the one thing that kept him in control. She’ll be over here in mere minutes, and you know it.
“Fine, little one.” Tairn landed right behind her. “Ruin my fun like that.”
If this stubborn ass would let me off his back, I can finally get a chance to speak to you without Tairn ruining the conversation. Violet told Andarna, before signaling to the black dragon that she wanted to get off of his back.
Her adoptive dad eventually let the rider off his back, though, very reluctantly. But after all, that was how Tairn functioned. And despite that, it still looked like a struggle for Violet to successfully dismount.
“Could we go for a flight, Violet?” The baby asked as the rider shooed Tairn away. “Dad keeps getting all the attention and it’s not fair!”
Mind you, I don’t like giving Tairn my full attention. He kind of forces me into giving him attention with all those stupid stunts he pulls in the air. Violet confessed, which almost made Andarna laugh. She couldn’t help but wonder if the black dragon was listening into this conversation. But sure, I’d love to get away from your dad for an hour or two?
“I’m sorry, but an hour or two? What will Sgaeyl think?” Tairn butted into the conversation once more. Of course he had to be always listening in. “I say no to this, sorry, golden one.”
Andarna knew that she wasn’t taking that. Bowing down her back towards Violet, the rider seemed to know what exactly to do. She easily mounted the scorpiontail’s dragon back, and in mere seconds, they were off into the sky.
Why is he so worried about Sgaeyl? Violet finally broke the silence once they were in the air. Though, it hadn’t been an awkward silence. Instead, Andarna had been simply focused on taking in the sight from up in the sky.
Mum has a habit of making him sleep on the other side of the field when he does something wrong. The baby dragon admitted, and it was quite funny now that she was thinking about it. But eventually she invites him back for the sake of cuddles. They’re an old married couple.
Next time he calls me that stupid nickname I’ll tell him that. Violet scoffed in response. Of course Tairn also had a nickname for the rider. The black dragon likely had a nickname for everyone he spoke with.
And then, the silence resumed once more. Riding with Violet Sorrengail was Andarna’s dream, and she was living in it. Though this wouldn’t continue for long, she would take it in for now. Looking over the clouds, she saw Sgaeyl land right next to Tairn. Shit. That dream was almost over already.
Tairn’s in trouble with mum, we only have another few minutes of flight. The baby dragon told her, and with that, she also gave a sad smile.
Honestly, some more plain dives would be great! Violet responded, and Andarna was more than happy to go into that exercise in particular. I’m being accessed on it next week and Tairn won’t let me practice anything but these insane aerials.
Sounds like Tairn. Andarna laughed, but at the same time, she couldn’t help but feel a little bad for Violet. Perhaps I could join you in the assessment instead? We could ace it together!
If Tairn isn’t a stubborn ass about it, then sure! I might actually be able to keep my place in the college with your help.
