Work Text:
Neither Thor or Quill can cook. But that does not stop them from trying. And of course, whatever they made in the kitchen of their house, which had been given to them by their dear friend Tony Stark, turned out to be a total disaster of something consist of eggs, celery, fish, and pumpkin, and God knows what else.
Thus, eating out is their only option. Thor let Quill pick their restaurant and he picked a diner. Thor was okay with that, and they ordered two big stacks of pancakes for their dinner.
Half way through their meal, Quill started sobbing when the memories of his mother came rushing back to him, when she used to take him for pancakes with syrup and sprinkles on Sunday.
What Quill did not expect was Thor leaving his seat to come over to the other side of the table, holding him and saying “I’m here, let all your emotions rush out” instead of “Don’t cry”.
When the sobbing and the lament stopped, Quill reflected on how he had felt differently this time with Thor – it was not an urge to stop crying and making his husband feel awkward, it was security and assurance that Thor wouldn’t leave him.
“I’m okay now, Thor,” Quill spoke softly while he was still in Thor’s arms. “Thank you.”
“Are you sure,” Thor asked in his gentle voice, “you don’t have to act tough.”
“I’m sure,” Quill wiped that last drop of tears on his face. “I want to ask you something...”
“Anything.”
“How did you learn to talk like that,” Quill spoke timidly, as if being careful not to hurt his husband’s feeling. “It felt so... different this time. I mean a good different. I felt safer to let out my cry.”
Thor looked at Quill shyly like a child, “Therapy podcasts. I’ve uh... I’ve been listening to them a lot lately. Just want to be mentally prepared for our lives as superheroes.”
And that caused a bright smile to bloom on Quill’s face. “They really worked. Thank you.”
“Anything for you, my love,” Thor says before kissing Quill softly, grounding him to the present.
And they finished their pancakes. And Quill truly believed he could not have a better husband than Thor.
THE END.
