To be fair, it’s not like Yuuji was trying to keep his relationship a secret. He only just had the courage to finally confess a couple of months ago after he’d been pining after a certain green-eyed boy for two years.
Yuuji would happily shout from the rooftops how undeniably in love he is, however, he thinks he already has considering the many YouTube compilations made about him talking about his mystery crush.
Yuji had known his feelings for this certain boy were beyond anything he had ever felt before, and for the longest time he just hadn’t known how to tell him. He was unsure if the other boy felt the same way and didn’t dare try to potentially destroy their friendship. He and Megumi had been best friends since high school and he couldn’t bear the thought of jeopardizing that.
He had just moved to the city and transferred to a new school after the passing of his grandfather. He felt lonely and unsure of himself and his future. His grandpa left him with a cryptic message about helping people and not ending up alone and already Yuuji felt like he was failing him. That was until he was running through the school grounds afraid of being late to his first class when he quite literally ran into the person who would go on to change his life forever.
Unknown to Yuuji at the time, Megumi felt something click into place the moment their shoulders met. After hasty apologies from the pink-haired boy, they found out they shared the same class he was rushing to.
Megumi offered to show the new boy the way there and was surprised at the eagerness with which the boy introduced himself. He asked Megumi for his name along with other questions Megumi would normally have definitely just ignored, but surprisingly he chose to answer. Something about the pink-haired boy was so bright it made the walls around Megumi’s vulnerability start to thaw.
It terrified him.
It intrigued him.
Something about this boy felt magnetic. Megumi felt himself being pulled into his orbit and for the first time in his life, he felt a curiosity that he couldn’t ignore. He wanted to know what made this boy burn so brightly, what made him smile so easily, and what would make him keep smiling at him that way.
Megumi and Nobara’s duo became a trio and it just felt right. Like this was just how it was always supposed to be, Megumi didn’t believe in things like fate, but if he was wrong and fate did indeed bring this beautiful boy into his life, then he’d happily apologize.
Nobara never stopped teasing the hell out of Megumi from the moment she first met Yuuji, she knew Megumi well enough to notice the changes within him. He was less closed off, less quick to annoy, and seemed lighter. She was happy about it. She loved her friend and genuinely worried that he’d end up alone out of pure self-sabotage. And once she got to know Yuuji, she saw that while the pair seemed different on the outside, they were actually quite similar in the ways that mattered.
However, one of the ways she hated how similar they were was in the way that they acted like such idiots when it came to their feelings. She swears the day they finally confessed was the day she de-aged five years. It was also the day she was considerably richer thanks to winning the bet she made with Gojo.
Now the established couple was sitting on her couch while she showed off the new clothes she just bought.
“I didn’t realize this many people cared about my personal life like this,” says Yuuji, rubbing the back of his neck.
Megumi intertwines his hand with his boyfriends, “Yuuji, it’s fine. I don’t mind people knowing about us.”
“Wow,” says Nobara, “Mr. Barely talks about anything to do with his personal life on social media, is fine with the whole internet knowing about his relationship? Yuuji’s fans would rejoice at knowing his mystery partner but your viewers, Megumi, would absolutely go insane with knowing any bit of personal information about you.”
Megumi sighs, “I don’t particularly care about what random people on the internet have to say, and I don’t want Yuuji’s viewers to only tune into his streams because they’re trying to solve some mystery.”
Yuuji glances down at their intertwined hands, “I just don’t want to make you uncomfortable or anything.”
“I won’t be. Nobara’s right, my viewers have been begging for more information about me outside of my content for so long and I've always just ignored them. Them knowing about us doesn’t bother me.”
Yuuji searches Megumi’s face for any bit of hesitation. He doesn’t find any. “Okay.”
Nobara snorts, “Cute. But before you go public with your relationship, I have an idea. Megumi, I know you said you don't want people only to follow Yuuji to solve this mystery, but think of how much fun it would be to see people try and solve it. Yuuji gaining more followers because of his pining isn’t new. Think of all those people who initially only followed him to watch the cryptic one-word answers he’d give when asked about whether he was interested in anyone. And how they ended up staying because they just wanted to watch more of Yuuji.”
Megumi looks unconvinced, but Yuuji doesn’t think it’s a bad idea. He really doesn’t mind if people watch him just for the mystery if he gets to gush about how amazing his boyfriend is. He’d gladly let as many people as possible know how lucky he is.
“I think it’d be fun to see if people could figure it out. Just thinking about dropping little hints in my streams and watching the chat go crazy sounds pretty funny.”
Both Nobara and Yuuji turn to Megumi. If Yuuji wants to do this, then Megumi doesn’t mind. He shrugs, “Sure, whatever. It probably won’t take them long to figure it out anyway.”

Yuuji turned on his monitor and got everything ready to start the stream. He hadn’t said anything online about the multiple articles that have dropped and all the mentions he’s gotten asking about what happened in the last stream.
From what he’s seen so far, there hasn’t been much speculation about exactly who his partner is since the person who knocked on his door last stream was out of the camera view and was too far to hear their voice. Nobara suggested that he give cryptic little tidbits in each of his streams, so he’ll probably answer a few questions he knows his viewers will ask him.
He starts the stream and waits a second before greeting the audience.
“Hey guys! There’s a really cool game that just dropped that I’m excited to try.”
Immediately the chat starts filling with greetings and questions.

Yuuji smiles and chuckles as he reads the chat, “Yeah, I should probably clear something up. I am in a relationship.”
The chat starts moving even faster.

Yuuji’s eyes scan the chat. It feels good to know how happy his viewers are for him. He started streaming his last year of High School and was surprised at how much he enjoyed it. He’s still surprised at the sheer amount of people who care about him and have supported him throughout his growth as a streamer. It took him a while to have the large following he has now and he can’t help but be happy about how everything turned out.
It was Megumi who even suggested he start streaming in the first place. When they first started playing video games together, Yuuji was surprised by how good the other boy was. Megumi didn’t care too much about it but would indulge Yuuji and play with him when he asked. Yuuji had always loved gaming even if he couldn’t play much for a couple of years after his grandpa got sick, but he had considered himself pretty good at it. But Megumi, despite rarely playing, would often than not beat Yuuji.
He had the sort of patience and attention to detail that Yuuji lacked, which allowed him to get the hang of games quicker than him. Yuuji had told Megumi that he could probably have a career out of gaming if he wanted and Megumi scrunched his nose, “No. I would hate that. It’s not really something that interests me.” He cocked his head, “You could probably do it though. You actually seem passionate about it and your personality makes you easy to root for.”
Yuuji had never thought of it before, but the more he did, the more he was willing to try. And he did. He didn’t take things too seriously and didn’t mind if he struggled at first with certain games. He got better as time went on and more and more people started watching. People started really caring about what he was doing and he was even thanked over and over again for doing these streams and making people happy.
When his grandpa died and left him with his last wishes, Yuuji was too upset to even start thinking about how he’d ever be able to fulfill them, but through streaming, he was able to help people. People told him about how his streams got them through their day, inspired them to start their own channels, and would just make them smile. And it was all thanks to Megumi.
Yuuji scanned the chat again and decided he'd answer a few of their lingering questions, “Okay guys, I really am gonna start playing the game, but before I do I’ll say this. Yes, they were my secret mystery crush, I was too dumb to realize it was mutual the whole time. And I am very happy that I get to call him my boyfriend now.”

Megumi saw the passion Yuuji had for gaming and helped him cultivate it into a whole career. It made Yuuji realize that Megumi had a similar passion, not for gaming, but for reading. Megumi was incredibly intelligent and loved spending his free time reading. He read all sorts of genres and was really good at recommending and making books sound so interesting. Yuuji never read unless he had to, but the way that Megumi talked about books made him want to read them too. Megumi had even recommended to him a couple of books that he would have never picked up let alone read on his own, but was captivated by when he actually read them.
He was so impressed by Megumi’s ability to understand people to a degree where he could recommend to them the perfect book that would capture their interest even if they previously had none, that he suggested Megumi start a YouTube channel doing just that. Here he could talk about, dissect, and recommend his favorite books. At first, Megumi wasn’t too keen but after more prodding by him and Nobara, he created a channel.
To Megumi’s surprise, he actually had fun. It was nice to sit down and talk about the books that particularly interested him and even the ones that didn’t. What he didn’t expect, however, was that people would actually care about what he had to say. But his channel grew rapidly and before he knew it hundreds of thousands of people awaited his every upload and genuinely thanked him for introducing them to their favorite books. It felt good to have a community of people with the same interests and even though Megumi rarely opened up about anything personal on his socials, his viewers would immediately react and seemed to really care about it, about him. He’s thankful he let Nobara and Yuuji push him into this, and even more thankful for Yuuji being the one for suggesting it in the first place.

Megumi made sure his camera was in focus before hitting record. He sat back on the small couch in his and Yuuji’s shared apartment, the bookshelf Yuuji built for him just because he thought Megumi should have one big enough for all his books, in the background. His laptop was set before him, the tab already opened to the many questions he received. He only just tweeted that he was making this video less than two hours ago, but he already had thousands of questions. It was a little bit overwhelming.
Nobara offered to be here to help and ask him the questions his viewers really wanted to know, but he turned her down. Now that he truly thought about it, he really has barely ever let his audience know anything about him that wasn’t related to his content. He’s always been a pretty private person and just started his channel to talk in-depth about his interest in reading with people who could relate. His content surrounded around strictly just books, it wasn’t like Yuuji’s, who even though he primarily did gaming content, was really open about talking about his day-to-day life, even going as far as to rant about something that happened earlier in the day that frustrated him or going on long tangents about something he enjoyed unprompted. And his audience loved it.
Even Nobara with her large TikTok following, included a lot of lifestyle and daily life content mixed in with her fashion content. Through her videos, his viewers found out that he and Nobara have been best friends since middle school. And when they did, they wanted to know more. He’s been in multiple of her videos since then, willingly and unwillingly, and many of his viewers loved it. They started following her content and even her audience started following his. He didn’t mind it, he never paid much attention to numbers or public opinion anyway, but it did feel nice to see lots of support and excitement every time he even briefly showed up in one of Nobara’s videos.
However, unlike with Nobara, Megumi had only been in Yuuji’s streams very few times and he hadn’t been in them for very long. He had played a round or two of some games with Yuuji and would briefly be seen walking behind him to grab something from his streaming room or be heard when Yuuji called him to ask him a question. But he didn’t interact with the chat. Yuuji had been the one to tell his audience about them being best friends, but since Megumi had only shown up in his streams during the very early days of Yuuji’s career when he didn’t have many viewers, most of his audience now missed it.
They watched each other’s content all the time. Megumi often watched his streams and Yuuji would listen to Megumi’s videos like it was some audiobook while he ran errands or went on his morning run, but there wasn’t much crossover between their audience. It made Megumi wonder if the public really would be able to figure out they were dating. He supposes that to the public, Nobara is the link that ties them together, but Nobara had never shown up on Yuuji’s streams and Yuuji had rarely been in her videos, so maybe it would be harder for people to put it all together.
Well, having looked through the questions beforehand, Megumi assumes that after this video, if there really is even some small crossover between their audiences, people would be able to look deeper into the “mystery boyfriend.”
He shakes himself from his thoughts and finally starts the video, “Hey guys. I know this isn’t my usual content, but I really do appreciate all the people who chose to follow me so I decided to do the thing a lot of you guys have been asking for me for a long while. I’m not used to it, but I’m going to tell you guys more about myself.” He slightly shifts in his seat before continuing, “I asked you guys to send me some questions you wanted to know, and I’ll finally answer them.”
The first question he chose to answer was about how he first got into reading, “Well, one of my dads is a professor, actually both of them are, one teaches chemistry and the other literature.” He rubs the back of his neck realizing that he really doesn’t know how to open up very well, “I guess I should start by saying that they’re technically my adoptive parents, but they raised me and my older sister since I was six. I was really closed off as a kid, even more than now I guess, but one of my dads started taking me to bookstores and sharing his favorite books with me to get me to open up. And I guess it worked and also made me realize that I really loved those trips together and talking about the books I loved.”
He answered a few more quick questions about his favorite bookstores and some of the most valuable copies given to him, like the copy of his childhood favorite book annotated by Tsumiki, Gojo, and Geto that he was given last Christmas.
He feels a little awkward and still unsure of how to answer questions, but he can’t deny that he kind of likes being able to say the things that are important to him out loud. He spent years keeping everything extremely locked down and finally feeling open enough to take some of his internal walls down feels a bit freeing, like he’s less rigid.
Next, he decides to answer someone who asked how he and Nobara met. He’s seen people ask this before, all the public knows is that they met in middle school, but Megumi decides that telling the whole story wouldn’t be so bad. “Nobara and I met in middle school, we were seated next to each other in science class so I was pretty much forced to talk with her in order to complete lab assignments. She was awful at science but after seeing how well I would complete our experiments, she insisted that she could do it too and wouldn’t let me help.” Megumi slightly chuckles recalling the memory, “She was horrible. She made a mess everywhere and almost set my hair on fire. We both got detention for it.” He rolls his eyes, “She thought my annoyance was hilarious and decided to keep annoying from then on until she just stuck. And then a year later she started dating my cousin so It’s not like I could have gotten rid of her even if I wanted to.”
He answers a few more. Does he have any pets? Two dogs. His fondest memory? When Nobara and Yuuji ran all the way to his house to drag him out of bed to go run around in the snow with them. Embarrassing memory? When he’d gotten one too many detentions in middle school for getting into fights, so they called his parents. The principal was so intimidated by them that Megumi was never given detention again.
Finally, to close out the video, he decided to answer the question he seemed to get the most. “Okay, this is my last answer, yes I am in a relationship.” He can’t help the small smile that surfaces on his face, “It’s probably obvious how I’m not used to expressing my personal feelings, there were certain walls that I built because of things in my past, but now it all feels so much easier. I don’t have to keep myself wound up so tight anymore. I can just be.”
He feels himself flush a little, this level of honesty with a part of his life that he kept strictly away from his private life still felt a bit daunting, but expressing some of his joy and disbelief at the person he gets to call his now reminds him that this is real and that he deserves to have it, no matter how much he previously tried to convince himself that he didn’t.

Fushiguro, if you’re reading this I just wanna say THANK YOU SO MUCH for making your content. You’ve recommended so many books that have gone on to become some of my absolute favorites and hearing you talk about them gave me the motivation to get through my day. Last year was such a horrible time for me but wanting to finish reading all the books you rated highly is what kept me here day after day. And now I’m writing my own book and am so excited to see it published one day!! In one video you made a fleeting comment about being able to relate to a protagonist who suffered from depression which I also related to, so watching this video now and seeing you open up about all these great moments in your life is amazing. itadori posts a lot, it took me a while to scroll all the way to the bottom of his instagram but i did it! the first couple pics on his account were from when he was in middle school. the first photos he has with other people are ones with someone named Todo Aoi and another with a Yoshino Junpei. they were both tagged but both aren’t content creators. so they can be ruled out.
the next time he posted were photos with his brother Choso and his girlfriend (now fiance) Yuki. buuuut then around a year before he started his Twitch account, he posted a picture with Kugisaki Nobara and Fushiguro Megumi (THEY’RE BOTH CONTENT CREATORS!) he posted a lot of pictures of & with them during this time. (this was before any of them started their social media careers too.)
itadori since then has posted pictures with other streamers/content creators, so we can narrow it down to any of the guys he posted photos with the first year he started streaming before he blew up.

“You’re trending!” is the first thing Megumi hears as he opens the apartment door for Nobara.
”What?!” asks Yuuji from the couch.
Nobara makes her way to their kitchen helping herself to the new batch of sweets Yuuji recently baked, “Hashtag Itadori and hashtag MysteryBoyfreind have been trending for the past couple of hours.“
Megumi makes his way back to the couch, resuming his spot next to his boyfriend. Yuuji wraps his arm around him before taking out his phone, “Wow, that’s a lot of notifications. His head slightly cocks, “Huh, they’re digging through all of my socials.”
“Someone made a whole spreadsheet!” Yuuji angles his phone to show Megumi, “They really are taking this so seriously.”
“Never underestimate the power of fangirls," says Nobara, plopping the last pit of pastry into her mouth.
Megumi leans his head on Yuuji’s shoulder. “A lot more people care about this than I thought.”
“Yeah, I didn’t think it would trend! Honestly, I hope it won’t take them much longer to figure out.” He turns his head towards Megumi, “I can’t wait for everyone to know we’re together. They’ll finally get to know how lucky I am.”
Megumi’s face flushes, unsure how to respond to that. If anything, he’s the lucky one. When he finally stopped kidding himself and acknowledged that he had feelings for Yuuji, he spent a lot of time a) not knowing if Yuujji was straight or not, and b) thinking that Yuuji deserved someone who shined as brightly as him. Someone who was equally as loud and free. Someone not like Megumi. But when Yuuji told him how he felt, when he pried open his chest and presented his beating heart in his hands and trusted him to care for it, Megumi knew that Yuuji was seeing him in a way that he never did.
Yuuji saw all the pieces that made up Fushiguro Megumi. He saw the quiet way Megumi loved and how he loved so fiercely but didn’t know what to do with it all except keep it stuffed inside. He saw how intelligent and steadfast Megumi was, how he’d always excelled in all his classes and spent his free time tutoring Yuuji but would still humor him by following along with his latest impulsive adventure. He saw the way he’d bicker with Nobara, but would be the first person she’d lean on after she had a bad day and needed an ear to listen to her rants. He saw the way he’d roll his eyes at Gojo’s incessant loudness but would stop and buy his favorite candy when he saw it at the convenience store. Or the way he would leave a cup of coffee from Geto’s favorite cafe on his desk after he knew he stayed up late grading papers. He saw the way Megumi’s mind would sometimes turn against him, trying to convince himself that he wasn’t enough, that the people he loved would leave him and suddenly he would be a kid again, waiting by the door day after day for a father that would never return, and he saw how much that scared him.
Megumi felt like a kid when he was scared and he was more afraid of feeling like the kid who’s father had abandoned him like it was nothing, than anything else in the world. But Yuuji understood it all. Stood by him through it all. Maybe they both were the luckiest people in the world.
Nobara makes her way over to the couch, “Ugh you're such a sap!” She flops down next to Megumi, “And don’t even respond to him, Megs, you’re even worse. Wait until after I leave.”
Yuuji sticks out his tongue at her, “No fair! You gush about Maki all the time.”
Megumi rolls his eyes at her, “You’re one to talk, you were even worse when you weren’t even dating her yet. I seriously regretted introducing you to her.”
Nobara’s jaw drops, “And you think you were any better?! She puts on her best Megumi impression, “‘Have you seen his smile?’ ‘He’s always so kind, he’s unwavering.’ ‘What if he’s straight?’ ‘No, Nobara, I can’t just tell him I like him.’”
Before she can continue killing him from embarrassment, Megumi clamps his hand around her mouth. Yuuji’s laughter fills the room. Nobara swats at Megumi’s hand.
Yuuji’s hands rock Megumi’s shoulder back and forth, “Wait, let her finish! What else did he say?”
Megumi wishes he could disappear into the shadows and drag Nobara with him, “No, absolutely not.”

Yuuji chuckles, setting his controller down, he finally scans through the chat. He’d been so invested in the game he was playing that he hadn’t taken a look at what his viewers had been saying since he started the stream.
Among people praising his gaming skills and commenting on the game itself, there were also tons of people throwing out guesses as to who his boyfriend is. Yuuji decides to help them out. He’s been almost bursting in anticipation, ready to yell out how he’s dating Fushiguro Megumi and how he couldn’t be happier. But he thinks his fans will put two and two together after they hear what he has to say.

“Hey guys!” As usual, Yuuji’s bright smile is there to greet his viewers. “Today I have a very special guest!” He beckons to someone off-camera, “Come on, I’m excited!”
A small chuckle can be heard before black hair and green eyes enter the frame. The man everyone online has been talking about sits down next to Yuuji and immediately that chat goes crazy.

The chat is moving so fast that Yuuji can only make out fragments of what his viewers are saying, but he can tell that it’s multiple variations of freaking out. He chuckles before looking at the face next to him. Feeling his gaze, Megumi’s eyes go from the screen to warm brown irises. The small smile Megumi gives him is enough to make Yuuji’s heart feel like it’s going to burst out of his chest. He feels that a lot around Megumi. He always did.
He doesn’t want to look away, he doesn’t think he ever will, until a loud ringing makes him jump. It takes him a second to realize that the ringing is coming from his phone. He scrambles to find it and before he can, Megumi already has and is handing it to him. He thanks him before glancing at the caller ID.
Why would Nobara be calling him right now? She knows that he’s streaming. He answers anyway thinking it might be important.
He didn’t put his phone on speaker but the volume of Nobara’s voice makes it sound as if he has, “Oi idiots! Stop just staring at each other and actually do the stream!” The call immediately ends. He’s so caught off guard that he can’t stop laughing until he has tears in his eyes. Staring at Megumi, seeing him, is second nature to him. He didn’t realize that he was doing it so blatantly just now.
Megumi rolls his eyes towards the screen knowing that Nobara is watching. He’s still a little bit uneasy about the sheer amount of people watching him live, but hearing Yuuji’s full laughter puts him at ease.
Yuuji is able to calm himself down a couple of seconds later, “Sorry guys! The stream is starting…” He claps his hands together, “Now!”
“As you all probably know by now, Fushiguro Megumi is my boyfriend!” with a smile that could rival the sun and win on his face, he slings his arm around Megumi’s shoulders. “I’m so happy I get to introduce you guys to the person I love the most!”
Megumi doesn’t know how his heart hasn’t burst from his chest by this point. Since he met Yuuji, he felt like his heart was growing too big for his body, expanding with every glance, every smile, every touch Yuuji gave him. He’s still getting used to saying the word ‘love’ out loud. As a kid, he always saw love as something heavy, something he felt like he had to carry, like it was something the people closest to him said only out of obligation. He didn’t believe they said it because they truly felt that way towards him. He didn’t believe that it was easy to love him, he couldn’t. But he was proven wrong time and time again until there was nothing to do but believe it.
Then Yuuji came along, someone who loves so wholeheartedly and earnestly, and Megumi realized that all the love he carried trapped within him didn’t need to drown him anymore. He’d never be able to shout out his feelings like Yuuji does, but he could express them in his own way. He can say it and the world won’t come crashing down, the people he cares the most for won’t leave. He can say it and truthfully know that they feel the same back.
When he said those words to Yuuji for the first time, he believed him wholeheartedly when the other boy said them back. It’s kind of hard not to when Yuuji says it so often and says it as easy as breathing. And Yuujji would never get tired of saying it. He’ll say it forever and ever. He’ll say it when the stars explode and comets start crashing down, he’ll say it through the strands of the universe and the destruction of everything, and when they’re reborn he’ll say it again and again and he’ll keep saying it in every life, in every timeline. And Megumi will say it right back.
