Chapter Text

Sunghoon stood there, like a goddamn fool that he was. He watched, eyes had never been clearer, as a stray tear dropped from Sunoo’s lowered head, melting into the snow that had started to paint the ground.

He had seen Sunoo cry before— from watching dramas, from seeing small animals, from seeing another person cry because his heart had always been big enough to easily absorb someone else’s pain. Sunoo’s tears came as easily as his smiles, but. It had never been like this.

Another tear had Sunghoon clenching his hand into a fist. Sunoo had never cried like this before.

It’s kind of like an out of body experience, Sunghoon surmised. This was the only pathetic reason he could come up with his inaction. Flecks of snow had gathered atop Sunoo’s head. Belatedly, he realized that it’s been quite some time since Sunoo decided he’s had enough, and shouted at him to stop before they could even enter their building.

He started to shake too, and before Sunghoon could find his words and persuade the younger to come in, he heard him whisper.

“I’m cold.”

Sunoo’s voice had gone raspy, but more than that, Sunghoon had flinched at how broken it sounded. Things should never be like this.

There was only a short distance between them, but Sunghoon had a horrible feeling that after tonight, this distance would grow further.

He watched helplessly as Sunoo aggressively wiped his cheeks free of any tears before lifting his head back up. His eyes, when they met his, despite the moisture pooling, threatening to fall, were devoid of any emotions.

Sunghoon looked at him. After months of living under the same roof, Sunghoon finally looked at him.

Same height, same eyes, same mole. He had also dyed his hair blonde recently, and it should be a splitting image with all these similarities. Yet.

Yet, he looked nothing like her.

What had he done?

“I’m so cold.” Sunoo repeated.

They both know that he wasn’t just talking about the temperature anymore.

“You don’t love me, do you?”

“Calm down, Sunoo.”

“No, you never loved me in the first place!”

“Sunoo—“

“Then why did you marry me?”

Sunoo is in the guest room, with the lights turned off. He doesn’t even have the energy left to walk the few steps towards the unmade bed, instead, choosing to collapse on the floor.

His fingers idly traced the metal band around his ring finger.

He had been happy. He had been complacent.

His movement stops at the familiar engraving at the sides. One that he had tried so hard to ignore before.

Sunoo lets out a self deprecating laugh.

It doesn’t mean that it’s his, just because the ring fits.
