Strumming hearts

Summary:

You have been chosen to hold a concert in front of your entire School but you don't even have a bassist. Thankfully you don't have to search for long as one of your fellow Band members tells you about a classmate that might just be able to help you.

Notes:

This is my first fic so any tips and criticism you might have are gladly appreciated (Please be nice though)

Also English isn't my mother tongue so there might be slight grammatical errors I've missed.

Chapter Text

The school festival was coming up but your class still hasn’t decided what to do yet.

Well… That was until one of your classmates raised their hand and told your Homeroom teacher about that one time you enthusiastically sang your heart out to your favorite song while forgetting that every person in a 50 meter radius was able to bear witness to your spontaneous vocal performance. After that, your classmates never missed a chance to remind you about your litte mishap. However you never thought they’d actually be cruel enough to bring it up to your teacher who was now very keen on bringing your voice ’on to the big stage of the school festival’. This led to you, together with three other unfortunate souls that were coaxed by your teacher to support you on stage since you didn’t have the arms to play all of the necessary instruments yourself, to gather in an empty classroom and prepare for your impending doom.

You looked around the room but found one vital part missing.
„Wait… Do none of you know how to play the bass?“
The only thing your dumbfounded self could see were three other teenagers desperately trying to avoid the gaze that you gave them. An awkward silence lasted in the room until Nami, an orange haired girl in the back finally raised her voice.
„I think the only one in our class that would know how to play the bass is Law right?“
You looked at her in slight disbelieve.
„Law? I didn’t even know he plays an instrument“ One of the guys next to you seemed to have an equally surprised reaction as you. The girl from your class spoke once more.
„Yeah me neither, but I think I saw him carrying a bass the other day. You should probably ask him about it.“
Great. Another unnecessary responsibility that you now had to handle.

You stood in front of the door leading to your classroom wondering if Law would even be in there since School already ended about an hour ago. Questioning the decisions that brought you to this point you grabbed the cold metal of the doorknob. However before you had any chance to open the door in front of you, it opened and a familiar spotted hat appeared in your field of vision. Law looked at you slightly confused but what caught your gaze was something on his back. You could recognise cases like that in your sleep. He was indeed carrying a bass.

„I can’t believe she was right.“ You blurted out without thinking.
„What?“ Law seemed pretty annoyed by your sudden appearance. He tried to find an opening to get past you before any award smalltalk has to be made.
„Oh hey wait I wanted to ask you something.“ Law turned. He was now looking at you expecting an answer.
„I-Uhm… That’s a bass your carrying on your back right?“
„Yes“ Law quickly answered before preparing himself to leave again.
„Perfect! We need your help with the concert.“ You grabbed his sleeve.
„Absolutely not“
„What? Why? Common there is no one else in our class that could fill the spot.“
„I don’t want to“
You felt yourself arguing against the wall but giving up wasn’t an option unless you wanted the concert to end in disaster.
„Well what would the teacher think if he found out that one of his students actually can play the missing instrument but just doesn’t want to?“ You hated how low you had to step just to get him to agree.
Law looked at you for a while before he sighed. With a defeated look he spoke once more.
„Okay count me in but never ask me for something like that again“
You couldn’t help but flash a vicarious grin.
„Great! We meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for after School practice. Don’t be late“ You prepared yourself to leave.
„Wait one thing“ You turned your head to Law as you answered.
„Yeah?“
„You’re still gripping my sleeve“ Embarrassed you let go before saying goodbye for the day.

Maybe that concert will turn out alright after all.
