Work Text:
Nicky sat down on a bench with a yawn.
Nile: "What are you doing?"
Nicky: "Enjoying the sun while waiting. It is a beautiful spring day."
Nile: "That is true, but have you forgotten we are trying to catch someone, and now that I think about it: where is Joe?"
Nile turned around to check her surroundings.
Nicky: "He isn't hiding. He is on his way."
Nile: "Yeah, right; I haven't forgotten the last time Joe jumped out from behind that statue. It might have aged me with a decade or two."
Nicky: "You still look beautiful, Nile. No one can take that away from you."
Nile: "Thanks. Somehow, hearing a gay man calling one beautiful is somewhat more believable than a loser."
Nicky: "Your date didn't go well?"
Nile: "I don't want to talk about it."
Nicky: "Let me know if I should teach him a lesson or two."
Nile: "Thanks, Big Brother."
Nicky: "Anytime. We are here to help, or if you really want to scare that loser, I could send Joe."
Nile: "Even though he treated me terribly, he doesn't deserve a night in the hospital."
Nicky: "Joe knows how to scare people without laying a finger on them."
Nile: "I know because I have seen it. And couldn't we not talk about something else? Like the one we are trying to catch?"
Nicky nodded before he coughed. He was pretending to have a cold, and if you asked Nile, Nicky was a first-class actor because yesterday, a nice elderly lady had offered him a napkin and some good advice on taking care of a cold.
Nile: "Wait a minute. I have figured it out."
Nicky: "Figured what out, Nile?"
Nile: "You got a "cold" so you can't run, and instead, Joe is doing all the hard work."
Nicky: "You are only half right. Joe lost a bet to me yesterday, and as a punishment, he has to make the target run this way."
Nicky looked at his watch.
Nicky: "And they should be here now."
Nile looked around, and nothing happened until a minute later when a man ran straight into Nile's arms. After quickly making sure if the man was the target they were after, Nile found the handcuffs, and after handcuffing him, Nile sat down on his back.
Nicky: "Well done, Nile."
Nile: "Thanks. Why is it I only attract the wrong kind of men?"
Nicky: "If you ask me, you will never be the problem; remember that."
Nile: "Again, when a gay man says that, I believe him. What is your trick?"
Nicky: "The man I am married to. He has taught me something along the way when it comes to saying things."
Joe finally made it, out of breath.
Nicky: "Your timing is off, and you let poor Nile do all the hard work, which means you didn't do what we agreed on."
Joe: "Come on, Nicky. It isn't my fault they had dug a big hole in the road, and I landed on top of five people discussing something about a pipeline."
Joe was covered in dust and dirt, and he started to brush off his clothes.
Joe: "I ended up with a fine of 100 dollars for that."
Nicky: "All that happened means you weren't paying attention to your surroundings. Or what do you say, Nile?"
Nile was still sitting on their target to keep him in place.
Nile: "I am trying to stay out of your marriage life. Whatever this is about, could you not resolve it after we have delved with this idiot I am sitting on?"
Nicky: "You got a point. Joe, help Nile while I get the car."
Nicky got up and left while Joe helped Nile with the man.
Joe: "So, Nile, how did your date go last night?"
Nile's groan told Joe everything he needed to know, and just as Nicky had offered to deal with the date, so did Joe. Despite the murder vibe, Nile loved her Big Brothers.
