Aizawa Shouta as a Flawed Parent

Introduction to Aizawa’s Parenting Style

Aizawa Shouta, also known as Eraser Head, is a complex character in “My Hero Academia” (MHA). As a pro hero and teacher at U.A. High School, he has a reputation for being strict and somewhat aloof. However, when it comes to parenting, particularly with his son Yami Aizawa and Eri, his approach reveals both strengths and weaknesses. Aizawa’s parenting style can be characterized by his protective instincts but also by moments of favoritism and emotional distance.

Yami Aizawa: The Four-Year-Old Son

Yami Aizawa is a four-year-old boy who embodies innocence and curiosity. As the son of Aizawa, he often seeks approval and affection from his father. However, due to Aizawa’s serious demeanor and the demands of his role as a hero, Yami sometimes feels neglected or overshadowed. This dynamic creates tension in their relationship.

Favoritism Towards Eri

Eri is a young girl who has faced significant trauma in her life due to her Quirk and the events surrounding her backstory. Aizawa has taken on a protective role towards her, which sometimes leads him to prioritize her needs over those of Yami. For instance:

Emotional Support: When Eri struggles with her past or experiences anxiety about her Quirk, Aizawa often dedicates time to comfort her. This can leave Yami feeling sidelined during crucial moments when he seeks attention or reassurance from his father.

Training Focus: In scenarios where Aizawa conducts training sessions or drills for students at U.A., he may inadvertently favor Eri by providing her with more personalized guidance due to her unique challenges. This can create feelings of inadequacy in Yami as he observes his father’s increased investment in Eri’s development.

Celebrating Achievements: If Eri accomplishes something significant—such as mastering control over her Quirk—Aizawa might express pride openly, which could lead Yami to feel overlooked if he does not receive similar recognition for his own small achievements.

Scenarios Highlighting Flaws in Parenting

Communication Gaps: Aizawa’s tendency to be emotionally reserved can lead to misunderstandings between him and Yami. For example, when Yami expresses excitement about a new toy or activity, Aizawa might respond with indifference or distraction due to stress from work or hero duties. This lack of engagement can make Yami feel unimportant.

Disciplinary Actions: In situations where Yami misbehaves or acts out—perhaps out of frustration from feeling neglected—Aizawa may resort to strict disciplinary measures without fully understanding the underlying emotions driving Yami’s behavior. This could result in feelings of resentment from Yami towards his father.

Balancing Responsibilities: As a pro hero, Aizawa often faces dilemmas that require him to prioritize public safety over family time. There may be instances where he must leave abruptly for missions or emergencies, causing disappointment for both Yami and Eri when they had planned family activities together.

Comparison Between Children: In moments where both children are present—such as during school events—Aizawa might unconsciously compare their abilities or behaviors publicly, leading Yami to feel inferior if Eri receives praise while he does not.

Seeking Connection Through Shared Interests: While trying to bond with both children through shared interests like training or hobbies related to heroism, Aizawa may unintentionally focus more on what resonates with Eri’s experiences rather than considering what would engage Yami effectively.

Conclusion

In summary, while Aizawa Shouta demonstrates qualities of care and protection as a parent, his flaws become evident through favoritism towards Eri and emotional distance from Yami. These dynamics create challenges that affect their relationships significantly, dont worry he fixes it once Yami reaches his first year of highschool.
