Work Text:
Iris had put Nora down for her nap and pulled out the photo album book because she was researching something and needed to find a particular picture to help her with the details. She came across the picture of Barry and herself at their very first wedding and smiled. She traced the pictures and thought back to that day all them years ago.
***Flashback***
Joe had dropped Iris off with Henry & Nora Allen because he was called into work on his day off & he was unable to find anyone else to watch her. She stepped into the Allen home and Barry came running up to her and gave her a big hug like he hadn’t seen her in a while even thought they almost spent every day together.
Barry and Iris walked off as Joe and Nora talked for a couple of minutes before he called Iris over at told her he would see her later. She nodded and said “Bye Daddy.” Iris watched her father get in his car and drive off. Barry came running over to Iris and his mother and asked if they could have a snack while they decided on what they wanted to do first.
As they sat together chatting about the most random things Nora worked on making them a snack. Barry and Iris looked at each and then over to the kitchen to see if their snack was ready. Iris smiled at him and said “I think we should play house after snack.” Barry smiles at her letting his green eyes tinkle as he responds with, “That’s a great idea but I think before we can play house we have to be married, at least that’s what my dad tells me all the time.”
Iris look at him tilted her head and said, “Are you sure?” Barry rubbed the back of his head and said, “Well if my dad says it then it has to be true, right?” Iris thought about it for a second and said. “Well he is a doctor and that means he’s smart, right?” Barry rubbed the back of his head and said. “I think so, I don’t know how long a doctor has to stay in school but I think it’s a very long time.” Iris smiled which made Barry smile and she replied with, “I think if we have to get married you have to give me a ring and we need a justice dude, that’s what I know form Grandma Esters soaps they always have a ring and a veil.”
Nora watched and listened to them go on and on when it came to planning their wedding. She came in after they had decided to let Barry’s T-Rex marry them. She was trying not to laugh because it was so cute to watch her son and his best friend just enjoying themselves and each other. Nora finally made herself known as she came in and place some popcorn and juice in front of them.
Barry looked at his mom but couldn’t keep his excitement at bay when he said, “Iris and I are getting married.” Nora gave him a soft smile and look over to Iris who nodded her head. Nora looked back at Barry said, “Is that so?” Barry nodded his head and said, “Yes, and I need to find her a ring so I can probably ask.” Nora smiled and asked, “How do you know so much about weddings?” They both giggled and Iris said, “Grandma Ester’s stories.”
All Nora could do was nod her head because it made all the sense in the world. She looked at them and said, “I think I can help you with the things you need, so you two finish your snack and I will go get those things.” Both Iris and Barry clapped and chanted, “We’re getting married, we’re getting married. Can you believe it we’re getting married.”
Once they both had finished their snack, Nora had come back with a tie for Barry, a veil for Iris, and a ring that she got out of the gum ball machine. She watched as Barry presented Iris the ring and said. “Iris will you marry me so we can play house together.”
Iris smiled, nodded her head and said, “Yes!” They hugged each other and then began planning out how they wanted it to be. Nora helped them decorate and put Reverend T-Rex on the table so he could marry them. She put on some soft musics and Nora smiled at the both of them as she started to record the ceremony of them getting married.
Barry stood up front and turned to watch Iris walk down the aisle towards him. As she got to where he was she turned to look at him. Nora whispered, “Barry take her hand.” Barry smiled and Iris giggled but they did as his mom told them.
Reverend T-Rex (Nora voiced the dinosaur) “Dearly beloved we are gathered here to day to witness the joining of hands of Bartholomew Henry Allen and Iris Anne West.” Both Barry and Iris looked around at the stuffed animals and then back and each other when Reverend T- Rex continued, “Do you Barry take Iris to be your best friend for all the days of your life?” Barry rubbed the back of his head, smiled at Iris and said, “Yes.. (Iris whispered you have to say I do) I mean… I do.”
Reverend T- Rex continued again, “And do you Iris take Barry to be your best friend for all the days of your life?” Iris giggled again and said, “I do!” Reverend T-Rex finished it off with, “Then by all the stuffing I have in me in the city of Central City I now pronounce you Barry & Iris best friends forever. You may now hug your bride.”
Iris and Barry looked at Nora smiled and hugged each other for a moment and then let go. They both giggled and thanked Nora for helping them. For the rest of the afternoon Barry & Iris played house until Henry came home from work and they all snuggled on the couch watching kiddie shows. Nora made dinner and by the time Joe came to pick Iris up, she and Barry were knocked out. Nora fixed Joe a plate and he told them he would pick Iris up tomorrow if that was OK with them, which it was.
***End Flashback***
Iris smiled at that memory and the picture. She closed the album and went to check on Nora before heading into her room to her vanity for her jewelry box. She sat down on the couch and found what she was looking for. It could no longer fit and hadn’t fit in years but it held so many memories for her.
When Barry zipped it a few moments later for lunch. Iris kissed him softly on the lips. Barry Smiled and said, “Well hello to you too!” She smiled held out the ring and asked, “Do you remember this?” He took the little ring in his hand and said, “of course I remember but I’m surprised you still have it.”
Iris took the ring back from him and said, “Of course I still have it, it was the first ring you ever gave me. Plus it came from your mom too.” Barry walked up to her and pulled her into his arms to hug her while he whispered, “ I love you!” She leaned back and said, “ I love you too!”
