Work Text:
Father Anderson is having a good day, all things considered. Yumie visited in the morning, bringing him a batch of cookies she’d made with the convent she’s currently undercover in, and Maxwell had approved some vacation time around a month from now so Anderskn can take the orphanage on a field trip. He’s been having a good day, hasn’t eaten or drunk anything mysterious, and sure he hasn’t been sleeping well, but still. It makes no sense for him to be hallucinating.
The old mill, surprising no one, is a mess. There’s shell casings and bullets everywhere—not to mention all the blood—but the main action comes from above.
Anderson looks up, and freezes. Above him, jumping around the rafters, is a Bruxa. From her back sprout a pair of dark black wings, but the space is too small for her to stretch them out. She’s fast, and she is able to dodge the bullets flying her way with ease, slipping closer and slashing at her attacker before dancing away.
As for her attacker…Anderson is pretty sure it’s Alucard. No one else would be able to wield his Casulls so fluidly without overwhelming recoil, and no one else grins quite like he does. The uncertainty comes with the fact that it doesn’t look like Alucard.
What Anderson doesn’t know is that, a week ago, Alucard lost a bet. He’d needed an extra shot to exterminate one last of the ghoul on a hunt with Seras, which exceeded the limit they’d set their wager on. Unfortunately for Alucard, the terms of this particular bet had been pretty clear cut, and so he hadn’t been able to weasel his way out of wearing the bunny costume on his next mission.
With a shake of his head, Anderson refocuses on the task at hand. He sends a wave of holy pages around the room followed by a series of nails to hold them in place against the building’s brick walls, effectively trapping the Bruxa in with the two monster hunters. Then he draws a pair of blades.
Anderson is pretty sure that Alucard knows he’s in the room, but if he didn’t before he does now. A line of bayonets flies through the air in an arc that traces the Bruxa’s movement between the beams. She lets out an ear piercing screech as one of the blessed blades embeds itself into her arm, the sound enough to rock Anderson on his feet and make his ears bleed, but he regains his balance quickly enough to catch bunny-Alucard take advantage of the monster’s distraction to put a silver bullet between her eyes.
The Bruxa’s limp body falls to the floor at Anderson’s feet, and Alucard drops to the ground beside it not a moment later. In the dim light coming from the moon outside and few holes high up in the ceiling, Anderson takes in the sight before him.
He knows he’s staring like a lecher, but really, what is Alucard wearing?
“Wha’ the fuck are ye wearin’?”
Alucard cocks his head in an almost canine manner, a look of confusion crossing his brow. “Whatever do you mean, Priest?”
Although Anderson can’t exactly pinpoint why, he feels suddenly embarrassed, and fumbles to explain. “Ye know…the…that! Ye’ve got fuckin’ ears on yer head!”
“I assure you, Anderson, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
If Anderson was staring before, his eyes have near bugged out of his head now.
Is he being serious? Am I dreaming? Anderson feels rooted to the spot, even as Alucard walks toward him. He can only watch, completely baffled, as Alucard, dressed in a fucking bunny suit, pats his shoulder and walks out of the empty doorway.
“You might want to get some more sleep, Father. I think you are beginning to see things.”
There’s no way that Anderson’s hallucinating! Sure he hasn’t slept in a bit and he hasn’t been eating properly but that doesn’t mean anything! He’s a Regenerator! And besides, it’s only been one…three…a week since he slept properly. Surely that’s not enough time to induce—
Anderson turns around to tell this to Alucard, only to find himself alone on the hill. Around him the hills roll and the night air gently cards her fingers through the green grass turned blue in the light of the moon. Maybe he does need more sleep. Or…what had Yumie said was in those cookies again?
