Life of our dreams

Summary:

Earth walks into an argument between Mix and Somporn and is forced to pick a side. Basically a normal day at the Watthanasetsiri-Wongratch household.

Notes:

My first RPF and it feels fitting that it's for EarthMix <3 These two have my whole heart. I started wanting a girl dad au after watching a few interviews of theirs and finally decided to write it myself.

Work Text:

"I already said 'no'," Mix said firmly, lowering the flame on the stove to a simmer as soup bubbled away in a pot.

"Dad, come on!" Somporn whined pathetically, before perking up as she spotted her other father walking through the living room on his way to his studio, "Pa! Can I go to Monil's house today?"

Earth turned to smile at his daughter, "Of course, sweetheart, do you need me to drop you off?"

Somporn cheered victoriously, even as Mix turned around in an angry whirl and pointed at his daughter, "You know it doesn't work that way, Som. I said 'no', and that's final. Shame on you for trying to ambush your father while he's busy with something else."

Realizing, belatedly, that he might have walked into a potentially explosive situation, Earth looked carefully between his husband and daughter, "What's going on?"

"I just want to go to Monil's house! He's my best friend! Why can't I go?" It was the ultimate Somporn tantrum, complete with flailing arms, pouty mouth and tears in her brown eyes. Earth was a complete sucker for his baby girl when she was sad, and she knew it.

"What's wrong with her going to Monil's house, Mix? She's been there a hundred times already."

Mix narrowed his gaze at his husband before turning to his daughter with a brow raised, "Why don't you give your father the rest of the details? About how Monil is throwing a party tonight. And your boyfriend, Edin, is invited. And there will be no parental supervision."

With each 'and' Mix's voice got just a little bit louder, and Earth couldn't help but grimace. That potentially explosive situation had now gone and exploded on him.

"I'm seventeen! Why can't I go to a party with my boyfriend?" Somporn argued, facing off against Mix with arms crossed across her chest.

Mix mirrored her stance, "You can go when there's a chaperone making sure you kids are being safe. I can't tell Monil's parents how to parent their kid, but you can be damn sure you aren't going to this party."

Earth looked from his husband -- beautiful, fierce, and upset -- to his daughter -- equally beautiful, fierce, and upset -- and he couldn't help a soft chuckle. The two of them were so alike in so many ways; it's why they were constantly fighting. At his laugh, both angry gazes turned to fix on him, which only made him laugh louder.

"What are you finding funny right now?" Mix asked, shaking his head in exasperation.

Earth just smiled in answer and walked over to his husband, stopping in front of him so his view of Somporn was blocked. He took each of Mix's smaller hands in his own and intertwining their fingers together to pull him forward. "Som, why don't you go up to your room for now? I'll be up in a minute."

Somporn, forever used to her dads being embarrassingly in love with each other, just rolled her eyes and left the room with a disgruntled, "Ugh."

Mix gave Earth a suspiscious look once their daughter left the room but made no move to pull away, "Whatever you're trying, it's not going to work. That party sounds like a recipe for trouble, and I found condoms in her bag the other day."

Earth made a face, "I remember. We cried about it for an hour."

"You cried about it for an hour. I wanted to kill her for trying to grow up so fast." Mix grumbled, his hands now resting on the taller man's broad chest.

"And what did we decide after we cried about it for an hour?" Earth asked, unphased.

"That we'd let her make her own mistakes." Mix said reluctantly, "But Earth--"

"We'll lay down some ground rules, and I'll go pick her up later tonight, but you know banning her from going to the party altogether is just going to mean she tries to sneak out." Earth reasoned patiently.

Mix scowled, "I hate when you're the one that makes sense."

Earth's bright smile made an appearance, eyes almost disappearing with the force of it, "I know."

With a half-hearted laugh, Mix deflated, his body tipping into Earth's arms so the older man was supporting more of his weight, his face buried in the crook of Earth's neck. "Fine. She can go, but I get to be the one telling her the ground rules. That way I don't lose completely."

"It's not a competition." Earth said with an exasperated sigh.

Mix pulled back to give his husband a bland look, "That's what you think. I'll bet you 2000 baht she's been keeping score since she turned thirteen."

"Ah, thirteen. That was a fun age." Earth mused, looking almost wistful.

"No."

Earth looked down at his husband, offended, "What? I didn't even say anything!"

"You didn't have to. The last time you got that look on your face, we ended up adopting the two cats, and the time before that, we adopted another kid. I'm done." Mix said firmly.

Earth nuzzled his mochi cheeks, "You know you don't regret either of those decisions."

Mix naturally tilted his head up, allowing Earth to nose along his jaw and down his neck. He shivered a little as Earth pressed a kiss to his collar, "I don't, but it doesn't mean I want to do it again."

"I bet I could convince you." Earth said cheekily, biting playfully at Mix's ear.

Mix turned his head to catch his husband in a deep kiss, his hand curling around Earth's long, fluffy hair to hold him in place. Not that Earth gave any indication of wanting to move. Mix pulled away after a few minutes with a lingering nibble on Earth's bottom lip, "I know you could. But think of all the free time we have now that the kids are a little older, that we won't have if we adopt another one." He wrapped his arms around his husband's neck, bringing their foreheads together.

"Mmm, you have a point." Earth's eyes were locked in on Mix's lips, "Are you free now?"

"You were on your way to the studio, and I need to go talk to our daughter before she decides to try something." Mix said, smiling.

Earth blinked, as if coming out of a trance, "Oh! The studio, you're right. I had an idea earlier." He glanced down at Mix, "You'll talk to her without letting her goad you into another fight?"

"Yes, Dad." Mix rolled his eyes, leaning up to brush another quick kiss to Earth's lips, "Now go. I'll come in later when it's time for dinner."

"Where's Ben?"

"He's staying at First and Khao's place tonight. Movie night."

Earth's expression sharpened, "Oh, so we're kid free tonight?"

Mix gave him a knowing look, "For a few hours."

"Yes!" Earth actually fist-pumped, making Mix despair at how he fell in love with this giant man child - but he wouldn't trade him for the world.

"You say that now, but once you start painting, you're going to forget all about me." Mix pointed out with the long-suffering expression of someone who'd experienced this multiple times.

"Maybe we could try our hand at body art tonight." Earth suggested, beginning to make his way to the studio, "I would definitely stop painting for that."

Mix snorted, "Yeah, we'll see." He moved to the kitchen to turn off the stove, pausing there for a moment to collect (and brace) himself before going upstairs to lay down the law with his daughter.

Life was never boring in their home, but that's the way Earth and he liked it. This was the life of their dreams, and he was thrilled to be living it - moody daughter and all.
