It‘s a nice, snowy day, which means the sun is shining brightly but it‘s not warm enough for the snow to melt.
Pelican Town is preparing for their annual Feast of the Winter Star and so is the local farmer, Vera.
Decorations are being set up all around town and the townsquare looks festive as ever. Due to the last few days having been busy and filled out completely by farmwork and festival prep, Vera barely had time for her boyfriend Harvey, the town‘s best and only Doctor. She only got to drop by quickly every morning to give him some coffee, like she always did. They kind of established a little routine.
So today she made sure her afternoon would be free so she could spend time with Harvey.
Today would be all about making up the missed time of the last couple of days.That is, if none of the townsfolk suddenly get sick and need a spontaneous appointment.
Vera reaches Harvey‘s clinic at about 5pm, being right on time.
No sudden emergencies will postpone their little stay-in date is what she finds out, when she rings the doorbell and a casually dressed Harvey opens it for her.
She takes a moment to just take in her boyfriend‘s appearance. Usually he wears his doctor attire, which accounts for a white button up, brown slacks, a red tie and his signature green coat. He says no one will take gim seriously if he doesn‘t, even though he is friends with most of the townspeople anyway. In a small Community like Pelican Town this is unavoidable.
Now he‘s standing infront of her wearing simple brown sweatpants and a green, almost grandpa like sweatshirt. He isn‘t even wearing his glasses and honestly she loves this side of him. He just looks so cozy and huggable.
„Hi“, Vera says quietly when he steps to the side, letting her enter, before closing the door behind her.
„Hi“, is all he replies as they both make their way to the back of the clinic and up the stairs into his small apartment.
She takes a step inside, letting her eyes scan the roam. It‘s clean and tidy as always.
…It‘s as always. No decorations, just the way it normally looks.
„Did you not decorate yet?“, she asks, maybe sounding a little too stunned, because Harvey nervously scratches his neck.
„Uh n-no… I haven‘t found the time yet“, he replies, sounding defeated.
The idea of decorating together takes over Veras mind quickly. This would be their first Feast of the Winter Star as a couple and she has been looking forward to do all the cheesy couple stuff with Harvey.
She takes a step towards Harvey, pulling him into a tight embrace and proposes her idea in a whisper-like tone: „Can we deocrate your apartment together?“
Harvey chuckles softly in reply, making Vera smile. In her eyes he is the most amazing person in the whole Valley and way beyond that, even if he sometimes fails to see that.
„We sure can.. ah, where did I put the boxes with decoration again?“, the last part is more meant for himself, but it comes out anyway. Every now and then Harvey would lightly talk to himself, which Vera enjoys a lot.
Harvey thinks very concentrated about where he put his winter decor for a while until he suddenly speaks up: „Ah! I remember where I put it now! Make yourself comfortable, dear. I will get them for us, okay?“
To this, Vera only nods into his chest and reluctantly lets him go. Watching her makes Harvey grin slightly. His girlfriend loves physical touch and he is more than happy to oblige to her clingy nature, because he finds it rather adorable.
Before he can sink too deep into thoughts about his wonderful girlfriend, Harvey quickly moves his feet down the stairs, into the storage room of the clinic.
In the meantime Vera gets comfortable on Harveys couch and allows herself a quick glance onto her phone. There were a few texts from one of her closest friends, Emily, about the upcoming Feast of the Winter Star. The two of them had been speculating on who got who as their secret santa.
Vera takes this as her chance to quickly answer Emily‘s messages and then puts her phone away again, waiting for her boyfriend to return with the boxes and it doesn‘t take him too long.
Soon, Harvey opens the door and carries two cardboard boxes into the small apartment.
Vera quickly gers up from her spot on the couch and walks over to him, while he sets down the boxes. Both of them go through the contents together and Vera can feel herself get more and more excited with every piece they find.
Harveys taste in wintery decorations is right on the spot and she finds herself agreeing with his design choices more often than not.
„I really like ypur ideas Darling, you‘re very creative“, Vera gigglies and flashes him a warm and genuine smile.
At first Harvey isn‘t sure wether her comment is meant to be a joke but then his gaze catches her smile and his heart melts right then and there. Whatever he did in a past life to deserve such an amazing girlfriend was definitely worth it, he can say that for sure.
„T-thanks dear, I try my best“, Harvey explains and smiles back a little bashfully, a small, pink blush spreading accross his cheeks. Even though they have been dating for almost two whole seasons, Harvey still gets a little nervous around his girlfriend and she seems to enjoy having that effect on him.
„You‘re adorable“, she whispers and leans closer to him, placing a quick peck on his right cheek. The blush on his face is only intensifying, while Vera just casually goes back to organising his winter decor.
Harvey can‘t help but just watch her for a while in hopes of regaining his composure fully and after a few minutes of just watching, he goes back to sorting the boxes' contents together with his girlfriend.
They make pretty good progress and after about three hours Harveys apartment looks a lot more festive.
There are cute fairy lights hanging on the ceiling, different ornaments like small nutcracker figurines have been put up on various shelves and stockings have been hung above his bed, since he doesn‘t own a fireplace.
Now both of them can finally cozy up together with some tea and talk about whatever topic comes to mind. That is how their inside dates go - at least most of the time.
