Soft moonlight streamed in from the edges the star patterned curtains of Vaeh’s bedroom, illuminating the circular fluffy carpet in the middle of the room.

The bookcase in the corner with two low armchairs on either side was illuminated by soft stringlights on the limited space on the shelves that wasn’t occupied by picture books Caspian had written and Fenris had illustrated for Vaeh.

The little star herself was lying awake in bed, looking up at her ceiling. A night sky was painted on the ceiling, the stars glowing slightly in the lack of light.

She was still tucked in under the quilt Papa and Grandma Isla had crocheted and sewed together as a bit of a bonding project to get to know eachother better before Vaeh’s arrival.

She listened closely for the familiar sound of footsteps from the hallway that eventually met her ears- Caspian’s slippers walking upstairs to bed.

Vaeh crept out of her room after a minute of waiting, her quilt over her shoulders, sneaking after him upstairs through the dark to the door opposite Cas, Rae and Aax’s room, easing it open.

Cari’s room was dark in the late hour, blackout curtains over the windows and blocking out any of the moonlight in favour of the dim nightlight so the rising sun couldn’t disturb the lightest sleeper in the grove in the mornings.

Various methods of sound proofing decorated the room, thick rugs on the floors and heavy decorative blankets on the walls around the crib.

She walked into the bedroom and went over to the crib.

Her little sibling looked up at her with teary ender eyes, sniffling softly, hugging their toy allay close. The baby blanket Vaeh had helped Grandma Isla and Grandma ‘derian make was draped over them.

   “V-Vae-Vaee-yah-“

They made the grabby hands up at Vaeh with a quiet sob as they tried to say her name, tears rolling down their face.

She reached down and picked them and their toy allay up, holding them.

   “S’okay.. V’s here now, sunflower..”

Cari calmed almost instantly, holding her tshirt with their small hand and sniffling, pressing their face into her.

   “Vae- Vaee-yah..“

   “Mhm, ‘m Vaeh..”

   “Vaaeee-yah..”

She sits down with them in the armchair, sitting the baby on her lap and holding them close, letting them lean against her.

It always seems more quiet in the dark. It always feels so stark. How silence grows under the moon. Constellations gone so soon..”

The eldest sang softly to them, starting to smooth down their bedhead and move hair out of their tired face.

”As the stars start to align, I hope you take it as a sign. That you'll be okay. Everything will be okay..”

Cari let out a small yawn, cuddling closer, listening as she sang, starting to suck their thumb.

”And if the Four Realms collapse, although the day could be my last. You will be okay, when I'm gone you'll be okay..”

Vaeh stood and tried to carefully lay them down in their crib. They whined in distress and didn’t let go of her.

   “Vaaaee-yahh-“

She stood awkwardly, not knowing what to do other than keep singing before climbing on the armchair and into Cari’s crib with them. Vaeh pulled their blanket over them and rested their head on her arm like a pillow.

”As the stars start to align, I hope you take it as a sign, that you'll be okay. Everything will be okay..."

The youngest curled against her, letting their eyes close as she pulled her own blanket over herself. Vaeh held her sibling close and closed her eyes slowly.

   “Nigh nigh Cari…”

Rae woke slowly, the lack of sleep over the fast few months- both with a fussy one year old, researching Icarus and running after an energetic six year old.

When he found the strength in him to open his eyes, he found himself firmly sandwiched between his husbands, hugging Aax to him and Caspian’s arms around his stomach. He yawned, burying his face into Aax’s back.

After a few minutes of cuddling with his husbands, they all got up, Aax going downstairs to make breakfast and Cas was smiling softly at the baby monitor as Rae pulled on a flowy, white shirt, tucking it into the waistband of his skirt before tying his corset.

   “What’re you smiling at?”

Cas glanced back and put the comm down, smiling softly.

“We should go check on our little sunshine,”

Rae frowned and nodded slowly, a bit confused but going across the landing with Cas and carefully opening his child’s bedroom door.

Both men’s hearts melted in their chest, seeing Vaeh curled around her baby sibling, both snoring softly and making quiet noises in their sleep.

Cari gave a soft but high pitched whine, as the door opened, small eyes opening. They blink a few times before their face lights up seeing them.

   “D-Dada- Daaaaddy!”

Cas put a finger to his lips, shushing them as he crept over, carefully picking them up.

“Shhhhh shh, don’t wake up Vaeh, my sunflower,”

Rae added a soft press of his lips to Cas’s gentle assault of kisses on Cari’s head, making them giggle quietly, before carefully gathering up his daughter in his arms. She stayed fast asleep, head resting on his collarbone.

“She must’ve heard them, or smelt something was off with them..”

Cas nodded as Cari popped their thumb in their mouth, “She’s such a smart kid.. get’s it from her Daddy,”

Rae blushed a little, adjusting his grip on the sleeping Vaeh, “Thanks Cas, I love you,”

“I love you too, pretty boy,”

Cari glanced between them, mumbling around their thumb, “Eeeeeewwwww-”

The two men burst into giggles at their sunflower’s blurted comment and they joined in, completely clueless about what they just said.

“We need to stop letting Violet babysit the kids-“

   “Definately-“
