Getting to know Donghyuck was different than anything that Renjun could’ve expected. When they first met, they clashed a bit. He had initially only seen Donghyuck from afar, watching him hang off of his friends like a kid attached to their parents, eyes gleaming with mischief as he made it his personal mission to playfully be a bother. It was perplexing to Renjun, really, when they had first met and Donghyuck was quiet. He didn’t have much to say and when he did, he was somewhat aloof. Renjun had always loved to meet new people, so he did most of the talking – even if it had been difficult.
It was Chenle that introduced them, a mutual friend of theirs. To say that things were awkward would be a colossal understatement. They went to some cafe just down the street from Chenle’s job and, despite Renjun trying his best to fill in the gaps, found themselves sitting in silence for most of the time. Donghyuck looked everywhere but at him, which Renjun would point out was extremely rude had he not been so focused on outlining the features of Donghyuck’s face with his eyes.
The way his brown hair was permed to curl over his forehead and around his ears prettily. The smoothness of his tanned skin and the constellation of moles dotted across his cheek. The warmth of his eyes despite the awkwardness between them. Renjun also noticed at that moment that he’d only ever seen Donghyuck wear black. But truthfully, it wasn’t until the other man turned back to meet his gaze with a slight smirk on his face that Renjun’s heart stuttered. ”What’re you looking at?” His tone had been lighthearted, his voice more gravelly and genuine than the high pitched tone he frequented with his friends. Renjun remembered the way he scoffed in return, pushing his arm lightheartedly.
It was the beginning of something special.
Or, perhaps, the beginning of something that was beyond frustrating. A silent game they played ever since that first awkward meet-up. A longing stare, a knowing smile and the constant nudging of each other. It was a silent dance that they shared, a game with unspoken rules and an unknown goal. From Renjun purposely wearing the tight jeans that hug his legs well to Donghyuck’s hand wandering from its friendly place on Renjun’s shoulder to his waist. Renjun wished he knew what this was or why they were doing it. If it was a game of seduction, why were they being so discreet? It’s not like they didn’t want anybody to know, their friends were all dating one another anyway. If it was just a playful motion between friends, then why did it feel so intimate?
“Why don’t you just kiss him and find out?” Jaemin asked, mouth stuffed with kimchi. Renjun smiled. There was something cute about the way his cheeks were full and the way his eyes sparkled. “I can’t just do that, can I?” He asked. Jaemin made a noise that was somewhere between delight and what Renjun could only describe as an eager goblin’s sound. “Why can’t you? You’ve seen the way he looks at you, right?” Jaemin’s eyes were blown out, wide and glittery like a sea of one thousand stars. Renjun nodded his head. It would be hard to say that he didn’t see the way Donghyuck looked at him. From their first meeting until this point, things had definitely changed between them.
Where there were originally awkward silences, there were now comfortable conversations. Silly topics about silly things that just happened to come up. They talked, they laughed and they bonded. The mischievous persona Renjun had previously seen in Donghyuck with others would now shine through when they were together. Jokes and quips passed between them easily. Endless teasing. They were just so comfortable together now.
“I guess I could.” Renjun nodded, the idea simmering in his head. He could see the somewhat evil smile that stretched across Jaemin’s lips, like he was a villain who had just watched their dastardly plan unfold. Renjun knew Jaemin well enough to know that he wanted this to happen for whatever reason. The other man’s mind worked in mysterious ways, really. “I think Donghyuck would want to kiss you, you’re pretty.” Jaemin nodded very seriously, his lips pursed as he began to think. “Maybe after you two finally hit it off, I can have a turn with him?” He perked up in the same way a cat who was about to be fed would. A surprise laugh left Renjun’s lips. It was no secret that Jaemin and Donghyuck had a strange relationship. It was like they were mortal enemies who were also constantly longing to touch each other. “Maybe.” Renjun shrugged with amusement.
The more he thought about it, the more appealing it became. To kiss Donghyuck would mean to finally make contact. No more games, no more charades. All he’d have to do was feel the soft pressure of the other man’s lips against his, a sensation that he had imagined a few more times than he’d like to admit. Maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea. In fact, maybe it was a great idea. Maybe Jaemin was really onto something.
“Aren’t you cold?” It was a fair question considering it was the middle of January and it was around eleven in the evening. But Renjun could tell just by looking at Donghyuck that the question neither demanded an answer or really meant anything at all. Because Donghyuck was staring at him, taking in every inch of his body. The outfit he had purposely worn to grab Donghyuck’s attention as soon as he knocked on the door of the other man’s apartment that he shared with Mark was nothing that special really. Tight pants, tight shirt. The tight jeans that he knew Donghyuck liked on him along with a white and red shirt that hung off his shoulders nicely. He wanted it to be obvious that he meant business. Hopefully, it was extremely transparent that the business he was interested in was kissing. And with the way Donghyuck stared at him? Renjun thought he might’ve hit the jackpot.
His lips, stained with a soft, glossy red that he hoped looked kissable, pressed together. The truth was: yeah, he was cold as hell. “Aren’t you going to let me in so I can warm up?” He raised his eyebrow slightly, watching as Donghyuck slowly smiled like he was beginning to realize what was going on. Renjun could see the way the other tried to feign nonchalance. He stood to the side, his back against the door as he gestured inside. Renjun sniffed. This would be harder than he thought. He knew Donghyuck wasn’t one to cave in easily; never one to back down from a challenge. Even if what Renjun was offering was less of a challenge and more of a ’make out with me for free!’ card. He nodded and moved to brush past the other man with purpose. The touch was electric, and if it hadn’t been so intentional – Renjun would have missed the way Donghyuck flushed.
“So? Are you gonna tell me why you decided to grace me with your presence tonight, Junnie?” He asked as he pushed the door closed with his foot. Renjun, ever the polite house guest, bent down to unzip his boots and toe them off. It was sort of a “killing two birds with one stone” situation. Of course, he wanted to be polite; he wouldn't make a very good, er, kissing partner if he wasn’t one. But hearing the deep sigh from Donghyuck made him grin. “Just wanted to see you.” He shrugged prettily as he stood back up straight.
“Yeah? Is that really it?”
“Why wouldn’t it be?”
“I don’t know, it seems like you have some ulterior motives.”
Renjun hummed as he sat down on Donghyuck’s couch, putting his legs up with no hesitation. “What kind of ulterior motives could I possibly have?” He queried, tapping his chin like he was pondering the question. The truth hung in the air between them. Renjun knew it and he was well aware that Donghyuck was starting to get an idea of what it was. “You’re wearing tight jeans again.” Renjun could only smile as Donghyuck sat beside him, there being just enough space next to his outstretched body for the taller male to squeeze into. “You only wear tight jeans when you want my attention.” He wanted to protest, to say that those words weren’t technically true but the words immediately died in his mouth as Donghyuck shifted to crawl over him.
It was a slightly uncomfortable angle, but only because one of the cushions that Renjun had laid on was digging into his back slightly. His mouth became slightly agape as Donghyuck leaned over him. He could get lost staring at the other for hours.
The ringlets of Donghyuck’s hair were damp, not quite wet and not quite dry yet. Presumably, he had just had a shower because he smelled fresh. There was nothing special about what he wore, but there didn’t have to be. Donghyuck could wear the same black t-shirt every single day and Renjun wouldn’t care. He shifts his gaze to the side, where he could see Donghyuck’s smooth, tanned arm caging him in. “So? Are you gonna answer me now?” He asked somewhat smugly.
Breathlessly, Renjun could only respond with: “Jaemin wants to have a turn with you.” Hearing the surprised laugh bubble from Donghyuck’s throat made Renjun swallow thickly. “He does, huh? But what about you , Jun? Surely you didn’t come all the way to my apartment just to tell me th—” Renjun’s hands flew up from his side and gripped the collar of Donghyuck’s plain black shirt between his fingers, yanking the other man down until their bodies collided. Somehow, Donghyuck was quick enough to catch himself on his elbows. For a moment they just laid there, staring at one another and smiling dumbly. “He wants you, but I was wondering if…” Renjun almost went cross eyed when Donghyuck moved even closer. Their noses and foreheads bumped together intimately and he could feel his breath catch in his throat.
Seconds became agonizing minutes. With their gazes locked, Donghyuck whispered against his mouth. “If you could have me first?”
The first kiss was chaste; tender but fleeting. Renjun’s body bloomed with warmth and one small kiss soon became a flurry of more. Like a beast with an insatiable hunger, Renjun pulled Donghyuck closer and closer. His grip on the other man’s shirt loosened and his arms soon found themselves wound around Donghyuck’s shoulders. He sighed between the feverish smooches. “Yes.” He agreed without hesitation, as if any other thoughts (or intentions of having Donghyuck at his feet begging for a kiss) had faded away. “I want you.” His hands came to cup both sides of Donghyuck’s face, his palms squeezing ever so slightly to smoosh the other man’s cheeks together. “That’s why I came over. You know that I want you.” Donghyuck made an awkward attempt of shrugging his shoulders, which wasn’t easy in the position they had found themselves in. “I didn’t try to hide it.” Part of Renjun would’ve liked to smack Donghyuck on the upside of the head. Then why the pointless game?! He knew speaking the question out loud would only get him met with one answer.
”Cuz it’s fun!
It wouldn’t be a lie, either. There was a certain amount of fun in teasing each other silently. Though, there was always going to be something that had to give. There was only so long two people could silently flirt with one another. “I guess not.” Renjun conceded with a slight sigh. He felt Donghyuck’s weight shift above him until he could feel the other laying fully on top of him, face buried against Renjun’s shoulder. “But it was so annoying.” He pouted. Maybe he was being a little bit over dramatic, but who cares? “Oh, boohoo! Junnie-ah has gotten all sad because he didn’t get a kiss as soon as he wanted one!” For that comment, Renjun did actually give him a light smack on the back. His violence had surprising consequences, though. Donghyuck whined in his ear softly, making him splutter a little bit in shock. “What?” Donghyuck asked, planting a wet kiss underneath Renjun’s ear before pushing himself up again. He grinned smugly at the man beneath him, causing Renjun to scoff and turn his head to the side.
“You’re the worst. I regret saying that I wanted you.”
“No take back-sies!” Donghyuck sing-songed before he eagerly dove back into peppering kisses along Renjun’s neck. “You’ve signed your soul away to me now!”
As Renjun tried and failed at pushing the taller man off of him, Mark Lee, Donghyuck’s cute as hell roommate who always smiled at Renjun whenever they would bump into each other, chose a poor time to walk through the front door. “Hey, Hyuck! I brought—” He stopped in his tracks immediately, the plastic bag in his hand dropping to the floor with a pathetic ’thwap’ . From behind him, an overexcited Chenle peered over his shoulder and cheered. “Hey! Are they kissing? Sweet! You owe me food, Mark hyung!” He exclaimed. Renjun gasped slightly, pushing Donghyuck’s face away from him. As Chenle ventured farther into the apartment, he frowned. “Wait, why’d you stop? Keep going?”
Renjun spluttered in embarrassment and Donghyuck could only think to let out a high pitched laugh, his own cheeks rosy.
Well, Renjun supposed that this was one way to get what you wanted.
