Work Text:

I reached a point where I don’t think there’s hope for me. At first, I took this job to fill the void. But it worked only for a little bit. Working for him is draining as it is... but honestly, this night is hard. I have to protect my boss’s office because the Justice League is targeting us. I always felt like this... soulless. But for the first time, it’s like it affected my body too. Nothing filled the damn emptiness in me. No drugs. No help… This is impossible.

“Alert! Alert! Intruders!” *I turned around quickly, met by Wonder Woman herself, determined to finish her job.*

“Let’s make this easy... we don’t have to fight,” she said in her usual fierce yet kind tone, but I had no choice but to defend.

*Charging a punch for her to avoid in seconds... she’s not like Batman... damn.*

I took a step back, my magic not working. I had to fight. But I’m not feeling well. I know damn well what will happen if I fail… but does it really matter?

*A sharp kick to the head, she grabs my leg and throws me at the wall.* “Stop,” she said once again.

What am I supposed to do?

“All I need is the number on the card,” *holding her lasso.*

What will happen if I fail? Get punished? *Roughly, I grab her hair and push her against the wall. She’s surprised. I still have some fight in me.* Get kicked out? *Grabbing her arms.* Get killed? Doesn’t matter. *With a thud, she was pinned.*

“No code,” *I said seriously.*

*Within seconds we switched places.*

“We both know this is not the way,” *she said it like she knew what’s going on inside... the void.*

“You don’t know what you are talking about,” *I said, annoyed. How can someone so perfect know this??*

“I know! Proving yourself... the struggle... the loneliness. I can help you,” *she said with sadness in her eyes, yet a hopeful tone.*

“It’s too late for that… my soul’s already tied,” *For once I answered truthfully.* *Her eyes showed sorrow; she knew what I meant…*

“It’s never too late,” *her words quiet... vulnerable.*

“Diana...” *I looked away… my heart beating with life… life that’s not mine.*

“Why did you come here... it’s not for a code. I know that.” *Her eyes shock with surprise… like she’s caught.*

“I don’t want you in this line of work anymore… you deserve so much better, and you know it.” *Her arms held my arms in hope.*

“Diana… my soul is not mine anymore...” *I hated admitting this again, but it is a fact. I sold my soul for one thing... peace. But how can you ask the devil for peace? When you could’ve asked God?*

“Nonsense. Your soul is yours... forever and ever.” *She knew what I meant but she still tried.*

“Diana…” *she cut me off.* “Without your soul, you wouldn’t be here… you are alive, my dear... you are here.” *Her words made my heart hurt a bit... wishing I could replay her last lines again and again in search of eternal comfort.*

“I am a villain, Diana… I sold my soul to him…” *A tear fell from her eyes… feeling so hurt deep inside.*

“No… I won’t give up on you… ever.” *Holding me tighter.*

The fact I’m bringing so much stress to her is hurting my heart.

“Do you want me to fix it?” *I finally said with a shaky voice… Diana was confused… but quickly caught up…*

“Fix what, my dear?” *I avoided her gaze… but I had this idea for a while now... fixing everything once and for all… Her eyes widen in realization… her arms wrap around me in a tight hug.*

“No...” *her voice shakes with emotion.*

“You don’t need to do anything.” *Holding me tightly.* “Nothing at all...”
